Horror Movie Mixture Trivia Questions

61. Ash and Co. headed to the woods for a little relaxation and fun in what 1981 film, in which they just happened to summon up some demonic forces?

From Quiz
Stay Out of the Woods!

Answer: The Evil Dead

Created by Sam Raimi, "The Evil Dead" was a shocker upon its release. Originally banned in several countries (including the UK) for a controversial scene involving a tree where it shouldn't be, "The Evil Dead" thrilled horror audiences and put Raimi's name on the map. He would follow up with "The Evil Dead 2" and "Army of Darkness", both of which saw the return of cult star Bruce Campbell in the lead role as Ash. Raimi took a break from horror until 2009 when he released "Drag Me to Hell". Oddly, in the second film of the trilogy, Ash returns to the cabin in the woods. The entire first film was left aside in terms of continuity. "Army of Darkness" picked up where the second film left off...back in time, of course. The original continued to be a major genre film long into the future, even attaining a perfect 100% on the Rotten Tomatoes website.

62. In this graphic movie franchise about torturous traps, characters cut off their limbs, risked their lives, and were literally forced to fill buckets of blood. What series beginning in 2004 was it?

From Quiz A Bucket of Blood

Answer: Saw

The "Saw" series spanned several different iterations between 2004 and 2010 and became a major money-maker for Lionsgate, who earned a collective $850,000,000 in seven years! Originally conceived by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, the first film in the series was praised by horror fans for being a "Se7en"-like thriller, but as the series continued it was clear that the quality of the films was waning. Many perceived it as a clear start to the torture porn genre. In "Saw 5", two characters were literally asked to subject themselves to a particular saw in order to fill buckets with 10 pints of blood. Of course, they decided to go through with the task to save their lives. Okay... so a couple of buckets of blood won't do it?

63. Its theatrical release limited to film festivals and select theaters, what movie features bar patrons who are forced to barricade themselves inside of the bar, to protect them from the man-eating monsters outside?

From Quiz Horror Movie Buffs!

Answer: Feast

The film was created by first-time film makers on the reality show "Project Greenlight". With executive producers like Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Chris Moore, it's a wonder why the movie didn't make it to more theaters!

64. Don't even think about going out on the water! In what 2010 movie does a teenager, Jake, ignore his mom's request to babysit and find himself in the middle of a lake with hungry, prehistoric fish?

From Quiz Don't Even Think About It!

Answer: Piranha 3D

Although he's specifically asked to watch his younger brother and sister over Spring Break (in an Arizona lakeside town), Jake decides to hop onto a boat being used by the crew of a pornographic film to guide them around the best spots off the beach. He regrets the choice soon after, especially considering the ravenous piranhas which emerge from an underwater fissure to feast on locals and partygoers. What results is a bloodbath... in 3D! This film is a remake of the 1978 "Piranha" though the new version is directed by Alexandre Aja (known for "Haute Tension" and "Mirrors") and stars Elizabeth Shue. Its box office earnings total over $80,000,000. William Forsythe is one of the stars of the 2010 film "The Rig" which takes place on a haunted oil rig, "Jaws" is the 1975 shark attack classic, and "Open Water" is a 2003 film about scuba diving which doesn't end well for its stars.

65. Everybody's favorite pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), appeared in two of the original "A Nightmare on Elm Street" movies. We all know he was in the first movie in the series released in 1984. What is the name the other one he's in?

From Quiz Horror Mix Be the Fix!

Answer: Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare

In "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare", Johnny Depp showed up in an anti-drug public service announcement and was smacked with a frying pan by Freddy Krueger. In "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare", Freddy continued killing off Springwood, Ohio residents. He was finally killed by having a pipe bomb explode inside his chest. Well, until the next movie that is.

66. Michael very much cherished and loved his sister, Laurie, when she was a baby. What did Laurie do to her big brother at the end of "Halloween" (2007)?

From Quiz Love Is in the Air

Answer: Laurie shot her big brother in the face.

Michael had escaped from the mental hospital. He was returning home to find his baby sister. Michael found Laurie, and watched her that entire day at school and on her way home. Michael had to murder a few of Laurie's friends, but he finally captured Laurie. Michael took Laurie to an abandoned house. He showed her a picture of the two of them as children. Laurie did not understand what the picture meant. She managed to escape from Michael. Michael and Laurie both fell out of an upstairs window and landed on each other. Laurie pulled the trigger on a gun she had gotten from Dr. Loomis. Laurie shot Michael in the face. This was the remake of "Halloween". It was released in 2007 and was directed by Rob Zombie. Scout Taylor Compton and Tyler Mane starred as Laurie and Michael. They also reprised their roles in "Halloween 2".

67. This movie was based on fact. It involved a young mother with an older son and two younger daughters. An unseen presence violently attacked the mother. Which movie is this?

From Quiz My Top Ten Scary Movies

Answer: The Entity

"The Entity" was based on the true story of Doris Bither who was abused by her parents and had several abusive relationships with men. The feelings in the house were extremely negative and even the oldest son harboured dark and resentful feelings towards his mother. The parapsychologists who looked into the phenomena, think that the paranormal activities were caused by this negative upbringing.

68. A family crossing the American southwest finds themselves pursued by mutants in this 2006 remake of a Wes Craven film. What is the name of the movie?

From Quiz Evil Under the Sun

Answer: The Hills Have Eyes

Destroying the tires of their RV on a drive through the Yuma Flats, the Carter family discovers the mutants resulting from nuclear testing in the area. They also discover that these mutants are kind of evil and spend most of the movie fighting for their survival. Starring Emilie de Ravin (of "LOST" and "Roswell" fame) and Aaron Stanford, the movie was directed by a newer face in horror, Alexandre Aja (who previously directed the French horror film "Haute Tension" and would later direct "Mirrors"). The film was based on Wes Craven's 1977 film of the same name; both were financial successes. A sequel followed the remake in 2007.

69. Demon in our house. Bought high quality camera. Now can't sleep at night. What independent 2009 film (which hit it big in the box office) does this reflect?

From Quiz Horror Haikus

Answer: Paranormal Activity

"Paranormal Activity" was filmed on a budget of $15,000 though it grossed almost $200,000,000 to become the most profitable film ever made based on the investment. Directed by Oren Peli, the movie originally only appeared in film festivals before word got out that it was a force to be reckoned with. After one million signatures in an online petition, the movie was granted wide release and became the Halloween box office leader in 2009. Stars Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat run pretty much the entire film as they are forced to deal with the paranormal events that have followed Katie through her life. With an HD camera in tow, they try to record the events that follow. What we see on the screen is regarded as archived footage released by the police - the movie has no opening or closing credits to heighten realism. Acting sparingly with the special effects at hand, the film was praised by critics.

70. "Redrum! Redrum!" Danny Torrance shouted these words in what 1980 horror classic?

From Quiz Do You Know Where Your Children Are?

Answer: The Shining

Based on Stephen King's popular book of the same name, Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" starred Jack Nicholson in one of his most famous roles as the father in a family asked to look over the Overlook Hotel situated high in the Rockies. When the hotel is trapped in snow, the family begins to feel the strain of the job as the hotel, already featuring a gruesome past, begins working its magic. Danny, Jack's son and a boy with the use of 'the shining', is able to see the ghosts inhabiting the hotel and knows something is amiss. His frequent shifts between himself and his imaginary friend, Tony, make up a large part of the horror in the film. "The Shining" has progressed to become one of the most popular horror stories ever depicted on film grossing nearly one hundred million dollars in theaters.

71. What actor becomes a werewolf in the 1941 classic titled 'The Wolf Man'?

From Quiz Happy Howl-O-Ween!

Answer: Lon Chaney Jr.

This is a role that Lon Chaney Jr. is very famous for playing. This movie is about a man named Larry Talbot, who returns home in Llanwelly, Wales, to reconcile with his father (played by Claude Rains). While there, he meets a local girl who runs an antique shop. He buys a silver-headed walking stick decorated with a wolf. The shop owner, Gwen, tells him that it represents a werewolf, which she says is a man who becomes a wolf at certain times of the year. Later that night, he gets bitten by a wolf while trying to save a friend of Gwen's from being attacked. He kills it with his walking stick. He then goes to a gypsy fortuneteller, who reveals that it was her son (played by Bela Lugosi) who actually bit him while in the form of a wolf. Now the curse of lycanthropy has been passed to Larry, who soon begins spouting hair and fangs when the full moon hits. He died July 12, 1973 at the age of 67.

72. Broken Lizard's foray into slasher films came after the release of "Super Troopers". What was the name of their 2004 film?

From Quiz Scared? Nah - Horror Movies Can be Funny Too!

Answer: Club Dread

Broken Lizard, fresh off their cult classic, "Super Troopers", soon moved into unfamiliar territory by offering up a slasher film set on a tropical island resort. Of course, there's a twist. The entire film makes a mockery of slasher conventions, often resulting in unrealistic outcomes for many of the characters (including a seemingly invincible killer). Additionally, the movie takes numerous shots at Jimmy Buffet's musical style. Starring the entire Broken Lizard Troupe (along with Bill Paxton), the film was directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, who also played the role of Putman. Following this film, they made "Beerfest" in 2006.

73. In which holiday film would you find a man dressed up as Santa Claus yelling the word "Naughty!"?

From Quiz Horror for the Holidays

Answer: Silent Night, Deadly Night

A cult classic Christmas-themed horror film from the 1980s, "Silent Night, Deadly Night" follows the uniquely confusing story of a man who went to an orphanage after his parents were killed by a crazed man in a Santa Claus suit (of course, this happened very shortly after he was told by his mentally handicapped grandfather that Santa punishes naughty people). When he moves into an orphanage, his obsession with punishment comes to a breaking point and shortly after getting a job at a toy store, he decides to exact revenge on those who should be punished. A painful FIVE FILMS were made in this series, each one following the previous one. The second film is particularly notorious for its cheese value and the utterance of the line "Garbage Day!" before the antagonist shoots an unnecessary victim.

74. Lynda Van Der Klok was Laurie Strode's ill-fated friend in John Carpenter's "Halloween" (1978). She was strangled by a phone cord by Michael Myers, while Laurie listened on the other line. Who played this frisky victim?

From Quiz Video Nasties

Answer: The Last House on the Left

The gang, pretending to be 'nice', ends up staying at the home of one of the girls they murdered. The girl's parents realize what their guests had done and exact brutal revenge. Wes Craven (b.1939) went on to become one of the most famous horror directors. "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Scream" are among the most well known and popular horror flicks of the 80s/90s. "The Last House on the Left" raised the ire of censors because of its depiction of violence against women. It was released uncut in 2008.
