Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What guarantee was given to the audience in "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band?"

Answer: They would raise a smile

The original vinyl album cover featured Madame Tussaud's wax figures of the Beatles as well as 86 images of famous people. A plan to include a picture of Adolf Hitler was ultimately canceled.
"It was twenty years ago today, Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play. They've been going in and out of style, but they're guaranteed to raise a smile."
2. How were the skies described in "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds"?

Answer: Marmalade

Allegedly, when Julian Lennon was a child he brought home a painting he had done of a classmate named Lucy O'Donnell. He described the painting to his father, John Lennon, as 'Lucy, in the sky with diamonds.
"Picture yourself on a boat in a river, with tangerine trees and marmalade skies. Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly, a girl with kaleidoscope eyes, cellophane flowers of yellow and green, towering over your head."
3. What did the singer in "With A Little Help From My Friends" ask to borrow?

Answer: Ears

The song, which was originally entitled "Bad Finger Boogie", was recorded at Studio 2, Abbey Road in March of 1967.
"What would you think if I sang out of tune, would you stand up and walk out on me? Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song, and I'll try not to sing out of key. Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends, mm, I get high with a little help from my friends."
4. What cruel thing did the singer in "Getting Better" do to his woman?

Answer: Beat her

It is said that Paul McCartney's inspiration for the line "getting better" came from drummer Jimmy Nichol who substituted while Ringo has his tonsils removed. Paul later added "all the time" to the lyrics.
"I used to be cruel to my woman I beat her, and kept her apart from the things that she loved. Man, I was mean but I'm changing my scene, and I'm doing the best that I can. I've got to admit it's getting better, a little better all the time."
5. What day of the week did she leave in "She's Leaving Home"?

Answer: Wednesday

Paul McCartney wrote the song after reading a "Daily Mail" news article about a missing teenage girl.
"Wednesday morning at five o'clock as the day begins. Silently closing her bedroom door, leaving the note that she hoped would say more. She goes downstairs to the kitchen, clutching her handkerchief, quietly turning the back door key, stepping outside she is free."
6. What sporting equipment was referenced in "Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite"?

Answer: Trampoline

The people and acts mentioned in the song all came from an 1843 poster announcing a circus that was coming to a northern England town.
"For the benefit of Mr. Kite, there will be a show tonight on trampoline.
The Hendersons will all be there, late of Pablo Fanques' fair, what a scene."
7. Which of the following grandchildren was not in "When I'm Sixty-Four"?

Answer: Nancy

Paul McCartney composed the melody of "When I'm Sixty-Four" when he was fifteen years old. The song was a tribute to his father and the music of the 1930s. "Every summer we can rent a cottage on the Isle of Wight, if it's not too dear. We shall scrimp and save, grandchildren on your knee, Vera, Chuck, and Dave."
8. What was Rita's occupation in "Lovely Rita"?

Answer: Meter maid

Following the US practice, England began enforcing parking regulations in the mid-1960s by using ticket-issuing meter maids. "Lovely Rita meter maid, nothing can come between us, when it gets dark I tow your heart away. Standing by a parking meter, when I caught a glimpse of Rita, filling in a ticket in her little white book."
9. What time of day was mentioned in "Good Morning Good Morning"?

Answer: Five o'clock

John Lennon is said to have gotten the idea for "Good Morning Good Morning" from a Kellogg's Corn Flakes television commercial. "People running 'round it's five o'clock, Everywhere in town it's getting dark, everyone you see is full of life. It's time for tea and meet the wife, somebody needs to know the time, glad that I'm here."
10. Which of the following was not mentioned in "A Day in the Life"?

Answer: Ice cream

John Lennon took news items from the "Daily Mail" and the death of a friend in a car accident as a basis for the lyrics in "A Day in the Life".
"He blew his mind out in a car. He didn't notice that the lights had changed," speaks of the automobile crash, while the lines, "I saw a film today oh, boy, the English army had just won the war" and "Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire and though the holes were rather small" tells of 'war' and 'holes'.
