He played third base in the majors for eighteen seasons. The majority of those were with the Red Sox, and he is in both the Red Sox Hall of Fame and the Baseball Hall of Fame as a Red Sox player. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame with 91.9% of the votes on the first try. His jersey number 26 was retired with the Sox, and his number 12 was retired with the Rays. Boggs was the first player to have his number retired by the Rays, not including #42, which was retired across the MLB in 1997.
