Age of Empires III Trivia Questions

1. What is an advantage that the Japanese have over the other 2 Asian teams?

From Quiz
"Age of Empires 3"

Answer: They can produce resources at the shrine/house

The shrines produce resources, which are a major benefit to the Japanese but they also act as their houses. This gives them a powerful boost in their economy as well as their population, considering that they cannot hunt animals.

2. How many civilizations are there total in the game (not including the expansion packs)?

From Quiz Age of Empires III

Answer: 8 & eight

There are eight total civilizations in the game. There are the Dutch, British, Spanish, Russian, German, Portuguese, Ottoman, and French. Every single civilization has something unique about it and they have their own special units. The expansion packs have three more civilizations each. Indian, Chinese, and Japanese, and Sioux, Iroquois, and Aztec.

3. The Dutch have a relatively weak cavalry unit armed with pistols. What is it called?

From Quiz "Age of Empires III" Unique Units

Answer: Ruyter

The Ruyter is the Dutch replacement of the Dragoon. Dragoons exist for almost all other nations, unless replaced by Cavalry Archers or camels (i.e. the Zumbooruk). The Hussar is armed with a sword, not with pistols, and all teams, except the Asian civilizations, have them.

4. What is the only building that can make all human soldiers?

From Quiz Age of Empires III: The War Chiefs (PC)

Answer: Fort

The fort is a very powerful defensive building. However, you can only have one, and it can only be sent from the home city.

5. The Chinese get a special ship that any other team does not in a skirmish. What is it?

From Quiz "Age of Empires 3"

Answer: Fire Junk

They are the only civilization to train the Fire Junks. They act like the demolition ship you get in "Age of Empires 2". The only other time you can train Fire Ships is when you are playing as Morgan in the campaigns.

6. What do you select from to get shipments from the home city?

From Quiz "Age of Empires: The Warchiefs" (PC)

Answer: Cards

The higher you advance in your home city level the more cards you can put in your deck. To advance in home city level you must gain a specific amount of experience points.

7. The Ottomans have a unique cavalry unit that can only be shipped from the home city. It is extremely powerful, but, because of how it is produced, it usually does not make up a large part of any army. What is it?

From Quiz "Age of Empires III" Unique Units

Answer: Spahi

The Cavalry Archers replace Dragoons, which, like Dragoons, are weak. The Cuirassier is the French heavy cavalry and is actually an addition into the stable. The Hackapell is a mercenary unit.

8. What does the "Revolution!" button do?

From Quiz Age of Empires III: The War Chiefs (PC)

Answer: It revolts you from your home country

This is a quite interesting thing to do. If you revolt, you can't get any home shipments from your home city, but instead only from the "New World". You also have to select a politician, as if you were advancing an age.

9. What is the unique thing about the Indians?

From Quiz "Age of Empires 3"

Answer: They use elephants as their main weapon

Surprisingly every other nation doesn't train elephants, unless they use an Indian or Asian village to supply them, with the elephants. Even the Indian Monks are on elephants which allow them to do trample damage.

10. In what are the cards arranged in?

From Quiz "Age of Empires: The Warchiefs" (PC)

Answer: Decks

You can also create multiple decks to suit your different needs. There are cards for economic, defensive and offensive roles available to put in decks.

11. The Chinese have a special artillery unit that is designed to wipe out infantry. The "Wujing Zongyao" (a Chinese manuscript) has described it in great detail and how it operates on a push-pull pump mechanism. What is it?

From Quiz "Age of Empires III" Unique Units

Answer: Flamethrower

The Culverin is effective against artillery and nothing else. The other three are all good against infantry, but the Organ Gun is a Portuguese unique unit. The Falconet is not a unique unit at all-any civilization that wants to can get one (except, as usual, the Asians).

12. Where do Russians get their infantry units from?

From Quiz Age of Empires III: The War Chiefs (PC)

Answer: Blockhouse

The Russians are unique in that their "barracks" fires arrows like that of a war hut from "The War Chiefs". Russian units are cheap and weak, and must be trained in groups.

13. In the fourth mission when you play as the Knights of St. John, how many trade sites must you hold in order to win?

From Quiz "Age of Empires 3"

Answer: One

The mission was that you must capture all three trade sites but only hold one to win. Many people think that you need all three to win and therefore find it hard to complete the mission.

14. What is the second age called in the game?

From Quiz Age of Empires III

Answer: Colonial Age

The second age is important because that's when you can start building a barracks and stable to produce an army. The Colonial Age improvement cost only 800 food so it's easy to advance.

15. The French have the regular Skirmisher like most other armies. However, upon reaching the Imperial Age, the French can upgrade their Skirmishers to another level, called a Guard Unit. What is the name of this uniquely powerful Skirmisher?

From Quiz "Age of Empires III" Unique Units

Answer: Voltigeur

I'm 90% sure that the Elite Skirmisher doesn't exist for any civilization. I'm completely positive the Royal Skirmisher doesn't exist at all. The Tirailleur is a French sharpshooter that's not even in the game; I just found it on a website and used it because it sounded really French. Anyways, the Voltigeur is the most powerful Skirmisher in the game. As for the Guard Units thing, each European civilization can upgrade at least two basic units (i.e. Musketeer, Hussar, etc.) to guard status, which makes it far more powerful than any other unit of its type in the game.

16. What two civilizations are the only two that can train cavalry archers?

From Quiz Age of Empires III

Answer: Russian & Ottoman

The Cavalry archer is a mounted archer. They are only trained at the stables of the Russian and Ottoman. The Cavalry archer was originally from Asia, so it makes sense that Russian and Ottoman produce them.

17. What is the most powerful defensive structure?

From Quiz "Age of Empires: The Warchiefs" (PC)

Answer: Fort

In "Age of Empires 2", the most powerful defensive structure was the castle. In "Age of Empires 3" the fort is armed with cannons and produces units.

18. What is the unique artillery trained only by the British in the game?

From Quiz Age of Empires III

Answer: Rocket

The British can train the rocket from their home city or a factory. It is especially effective against people. The Organ can only be trained by the Portuguese. The Great Bombard can only be trained by the Ottoman. Everyone can train the Mortar.

19. What is the Falconet?

From Quiz "Age of Empires: The Warchiefs" (PC)

Answer: Light artillery unit

It can be upgraded to more powerful artillery units such as the Bombard canon. It is useful as the range and attack and hit points increase.

20. Which civilization has banks and their settlers are produced with coin instead of food?

From Quiz Age of Empires III

Answer: Dutch

The Dutch usually have a strong economy in the game. The Dutch have unique banks that continuously produce coin. This constant flow of coin make the Dutch rich. Settlers cost coin not food for the Dutch.

21. If there is no gold mine, from where can you get coin?

From Quiz "Age of Empires: The Warchiefs" (PC)

Answer: Plantation

You can get coin from the home city, whales, banks and also trading posts. You can trade other resources for coin in the market.

22. What is the only native American tribe to get siege units?

From Quiz "Age of Empires 3"

Answer: Iroquois

The Iroquois can train rams, mantles and light guns in the siege workshop. This makes them a powerful Native American nation, as the other two teams do not get siege units.

23. From which building can you produce a blockade?

From Quiz "Age of Empires: The Warchiefs" (PC)

Answer: Capitol

This building contains several powerful upgrades unique to your civilization. It can only be built in the fourth age.

24. What in the "War Chiefs" game is new to the European Civilizations?

From Quiz "Age of Empires 3"

Answer: Revolution

With the European Civilizations you can revolt in the fourth age. This is not available to the "War Chiefs" Civilizations. Revolting is based on having a large army rather than an economy, as all of your villagers turn into Colonial Military.

25. Which civilization get a free shipment of Uhlans with most home city shipments?

From Quiz Age of Empires III

Answer: German

The German receive a unique cavalry unit, Uhlan, with just about every shipment. The German can train the Uhlan and the War Wagon from their stable. The German have the most unique cavalry units in the game.

26. What do the British have instead of houses?

From Quiz "Age of Empires: The Warchiefs" (PC)

Answer: Manor houses

Each manor house gives you a extra settler. It is useful in the beginning because you can assign them to other tasks such as gathering, etc.

27. What is the weakest infantry unit?

From Quiz Age of Empires III: The War Chiefs (PC)

Answer: Strelet

The Strelet is a Russian skirmisher. It is cheap and weak, and can be quickly deployed in great numbers.

28. What do the Native Americans get that the Europeans don't?

From Quiz "Age of Empires 3"

Answer: No need for a capital

All the capital upgrades, are done in the town center which saves on wood costs and an extra building. This allows for the player to enable Blockade and Spy quicker than the European Teams.

29. In the only campaign in the game, Morgan Black initially fights against which Ottoman? (Note: They would later become allies.)

From Quiz Age of Empires III
