Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Dutch have a relatively weak cavalry unit armed with pistols. What is it called?

Answer: Ruyter

The Ruyter is the Dutch replacement of the Dragoon. Dragoons exist for almost all other nations, unless replaced by Cavalry Archers or camels (i.e. the Zumbooruk). The Hussar is armed with a sword, not with pistols, and all teams, except the Asian civilizations, have them.
2. The Ottomans have a unique cavalry unit that can only be shipped from the home city. It is extremely powerful, but, because of how it is produced, it usually does not make up a large part of any army. What is it?

Answer: Spahi

The Cavalry Archers replace Dragoons, which, like Dragoons, are weak. The Cuirassier is the French heavy cavalry and is actually an addition into the stable. The Hackapell is a mercenary unit.
3. The Chinese have a special artillery unit that is designed to wipe out infantry. The "Wujing Zongyao" (a Chinese manuscript) has described it in great detail and how it operates on a push-pull pump mechanism. What is it?

Answer: Flamethrower

The Culverin is effective against artillery and nothing else. The other three are all good against infantry, but the Organ Gun is a Portuguese unique unit. The Falconet is not a unique unit at all-any civilization that wants to can get one (except, as usual, the Asians).
4. The French have the regular Skirmisher like most other armies. However, upon reaching the Imperial Age, the French can upgrade their Skirmishers to another level, called a Guard Unit. What is the name of this uniquely powerful Skirmisher?

Answer: Voltigeur

I'm 90% sure that the Elite Skirmisher doesn't exist for any civilization. I'm completely positive the Royal Skirmisher doesn't exist at all. The Tirailleur is a French sharpshooter that's not even in the game; I just found it on a website and used it because it sounded really French. Anyways, the Voltigeur is the most powerful Skirmisher in the game.

As for the Guard Units thing, each European civilization can upgrade at least two basic units (i.e. Musketeer, Hussar, etc.) to guard status, which makes it far more powerful than any other unit of its type in the game.
5. The Russians are able to train their infantry units in groups. Which of these units can train in groups of 10 at a time and can be sent in shipments in sizes of up to 31 individual units?

Answer: Strelet

The Strelet is essentially the same thing as a Skirmisher, just far weaker. I once sent in an army of well over forty of them...but only 20 survived against a defense of the Town Center and Settlers. However, you can train them in massive groups at the Blockhouse in the Discovery Age, which means infantry rushes are incredibly easy.
6. Three of these units are alike in that each can accomplish the same tasks. Which is the odd one out?

Answer: Tekkousen

The Fluyt and Atakabune are the Dutch and Japanese versions of the Galleon, respectively. The Daimyo is a Japanese unit that grants a small attack bonus when nearby allied units. Their similarity is that each can train units. The Fluyt and Atakabune can train units when close to shore; the Daimyo (and its "upgrade", the Shogun) can train units at any time on land.

The only weakness is that, while training units, it cannot move.
7. Out of these four units, which is the odd one out, thinking along the ideas of production?

Answer: Flying Crow

The Great Bombard, Congreve Rocket, and Heavy Cannon can all be produced at the Factory for the Ottomans, British, and everyone else, respectively. The Flying Crow is produced at the Confucian Academy for the Chinese.

In my opinion, the Flying Crow is the best, just because it looks cool, but it behaves in almost the same way as the Congreve Rocket (both are rocket-propelled explosives). The only difference is that the Flying Crow can take out a House with two shots, while a Rocket needs three. The Great Bombard is widely regarded as the absolute best artillery, but is incredibly slow. The Heavy Cannon is no match for any of these.
8. These Germans have a superior attack power but inferior hitpoints. They appear in shipments more commonly than any other unit, as of "Age of Empires III". What are these German unique units?

Answer: Uhlans

The Landsknecht is a mercenary unit, but about five times as powerful as any other hand infantry. Hussars are not unique. War Wagons are German unique units armed with two cannon that have superior defense and probably attack, but they're extremely expensive.

The Uhlan replaces the Hussar and comes in just about every German shipment available. For example, "2 Settlers + 2 Uhlans" or "3 War Wagons + 3 Uhlans."
9. Which of these is not a unique siege unit?

Answer: Mortar

The Siege Elephant is the Indian replacement of a long-range artillery unit. The Morutaru and Hand Mortar are the Japanese and Chinese replacements, respectively. All of these are slightly faster than the Mortar in all ways, but each is slightly less powerful as well.
10. What is the Russian unique calvary unit that is excellent at raiding?

Answer: Oprichnik

The Oprichnik attacks with a whip-like weapon. It devastates villagers and does pretty nasty damage to buildings. However, in all other cases, it's pretty weak.
