Guild Wars: Eye of the North Trivia Questions

1. What is the name of the asuran capital city of the Tarnished Coast?

From Quiz
"Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Tarnished Coast

Answer: Rata Sum

After the asura were driven from their subterranean dwellings by the movements of the destroyers, they sought refuge on the surface of Tyria, in an area to the south of the Maguuma Jungle, known as the Tarnished Coast. They set up a city, Rata Sum, and began to build and harness the power of the environment to ensure they were secure and not threatened by the destroyers again. Players can find their way to Rata Sum by travelling from Umbral Grotto, through the depths of the Vloxen Excavations, and up through Arbor Bay and Riven Earth. This is not an easy journey to take, with few places for respite in between.

2. One of the original three campaigns is required to be able to play "Guild Wars: Eye of the North". However, you must be a certain level in order to enter the campaign. What level is this?

From Quiz Guild Wars: Eye of the North

Answer: 10 & ten

The quests to enter the "Eye of the North" story arc can be obtained from Lion's Arch, Kaineng Centre, and Kamadan. The expansion is designed for level 20 characters, but the minumum level requirement is 10. Characters entering below level 20 will be affected by "Journey to the North", which boosts their health, energy and attribute points to that of a level 20 character.

3. Starting in Arbor Bay, through which dungeon must players travel to reach Gadd's Encampment and Sparkfly Swamp?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Tarnished Coast

Answer: Shards of Orr

Located deep beneath the Sea of Sorrows and populated by hordes of undead is the Shards of Orr dungeon. Fendi Nin, a powerful undead necromancer, is the final boss of the dungeon, though his soul, which separates from his body, must be destroyed in order for him to be defeated.

4. To reach the Charr Homelands, which outpost must players pass through?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Charr Homelands

Answer: Longeye's Ledge

As players venture east through the Far Shiverpeaks, they can find shelter at Longeye's Ledge, the easternmost outpost of the Far Shiverpeaks and a mandatory thoroughfare to reach the Charr Homelands. Connecting Bjora Marches with Grothmar Wardowns, Longeye's Ledge is overseen by Olfun Longeye himself, a norn who offers players the primary quest 'Search for the Ebon Vanguard', which continues the game's story and ultimately leads to the Charr's regional town.

5. The Eye of the North is a huge outpost located in which explorable area?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Far Shiverpeaks

Answer: Ice Cliff Chasms

Shortly after departing Boreal Station, players will find themselves fighting wurms, Avalanches, Frozen Elementals, and Mountain Pinesouls, among other things. At the heart of the Ice Cliff Chasms is a frozen lake, and built atop that is the Eye of the North outpost. Home to many Ebon Vanguard operatives, the Hall of Monuments and the Scrying Pool, players will find themselves returning to the Eye of the North frequently throughout their journey. Ice Cliff Chasms connects to Norrhart Domains in the north, Boreal Station in the southeast, and the Battledepths in the west.

6. The Cathedral of Flames dungeon in the Charr Homelands is another of my favourites. Charr and the Undead roam the three floors of this dungeon, but it is possible to run it using a special Monk setup. Who is the boss of this dungeon?

From Quiz Ten of My Favourite Dungeons

Answer: Murakai, Lady of the Night

The Cathedral of Flames dungeon gets its name, presumably, from the area on the third floor where there are several burning trees in what appears to be the remains of a cathedral. Murakai is the boss of the dungeon, who is found in the final room on the third floor, next to a heart-shaped pool of lava. Awwww. She's deadly. No, seriously. She can call for three of her servants to aid her. Powerful Mesmers, they are. But they should be no trouble for you, intrepid dungeon conqueror. Because there is a high number of Undead foes in this dungeon, skills that deal holy damage will work wonders, due to it dealing double damage to the Undead.

7. The campaign revolves around a huge story arc, and sees players gaining the alliance of four races to fight the Great Destroyer. These four races are the Ebon Vanguard, the Norn, the Dwarves, and which other?

From Quiz Guild Wars: Eye of the North

Answer: Asura

The Asura are extremely intelligent creatures who originally made their habitat underground. When the Destroyers were unleashed upon Tyria, they rose to the surface, overwhelmed by the sheer forces. Along with the other races, the Asura provide a new armor type, and a new mini-game called Polymock, which is based loosely around "Pokemon".

8. The "M" in the mission entitled "G.O.L.E.M." stands for what?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Tarnished Coast

Answer: Manifestation

Standing for "Genius Operated Living Enchanted Manifestation", this mission begins with a bit of "base defence" as players fight off oncoming Destroyers as two golems charge up. When they are ready, players accompany the newly charged golems to destroy a Destroyer hive threatening Rata Sum. This mission ends the asuran questline "The Knowledgeable Asura".

9. In an region relatively devoid of safe havens, where will players find the main town, Doomlore Shrine, in the only explorable area it is connected to?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Charr Homelands

Answer: In the northwest

Doomlore Shrine is one of only two places of respite in the perilous Charr Homelands (the other being Longeye's Ledge, which is on the border of the Charr Homelands and the Far Shiverpeaks). From here, players can get together and explore and possibly vanquish Dalada Uplands, or tackle the dangers afoot in the Cathedral of Flames. As with many other locations in the game, passing through Doomlore Shrine is mandatory, as the primary quest 'Warband of Brothers' sends players into the Cathedral itself in search of Pyre Fierceshot's missing warband brothers.

10. What state is the dragon Drakkar in?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Far Shiverpeaks

Answer: Frozen in ice

Frozen beneath the surface of Drakkar Lake's eponymous body of water is champion of the Elder Dragon Jormag, Drakkar. The Norn who inhabit the region are said to be afraid that the great beast might reawaken and lay waste to them and the Shiverpeak mountains that they call home. Though Drakkar remains dormant in "Eye of the North", he comes back to life before and during the events of "Guild Wars 2".

11. Ooze Pit may not sound like the most desirable place to spend an hour or two, but if you want to conquer all the dungeons, you best put on some wellingtons. Which explorable area is this dungeon connected to?

From Quiz Ten of My Favourite Dungeons

Answer: Grothmar Wardowns

It might not be very smelly, but the Ooze Pit is certainly oozy. Not only does it offer some of the best subterranean scenery in Tyria, such as bubbling ooze-filled pools, but the locals are really friendly...as long as you don't go near them. Who would have thought a little blob of ooze could attack you? Evidently, they can. And if that's not bad enough, they can divide in two and combine with one another, making a seemingly simple fight just that little bit more annoying. There are three Prismatic Oozes that are the bosses of this dungeon, and they certainly won't let you kill them once and give up their treasure. Each of the oozes will spawn two more oozes when they die, and they will spawn five more oozes when they die! They certainly are a pain in the proverbial.

12. Tarnished Haven is connected to only one explorable area. What is it?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Tarnished Coast

Answer: Alcazia Tangle

Players wishing to visit Tarnished Haven will need to travel through at least two explorable areas to reach it from another outpost or town. The outpost itself contains the usual troupe of NPCs: Xunlai agents, a merchant, an assembly of henchman. But one particular quest-giver can provide players with some unique asura PVE-only skills for completing his chain of quests. These quests will send players back through the lands of 'Eye of the North', defeating special foes and discovering some puzzling secrets.

13. The body of which Elder Dragon can be physically seen when venturing through the Charr Homelands?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Charr Homelands

Answer: Kralkatorrik

To most players, this sharp, pointed, almost rocky outcrop dividing the three zones of the Charr Homelands appears to be nothing but an insurmountable boundary, but upon closer examination, it is revealed to be part of the dormant body of Kralkatorrik, one of the Elder Dragons. While Kralkatorrik does not appear to be active during the events of "Guild Wars: Eye of the North", it definitely awakens some two hundred and fifty years later before the events of "Guild Wars 2", when the devastating effects of its immense power can be seen, searing a huge area of Ascalon with its corruption. Each of the Elder Dragons has at least one champion, a lesser, subservient entity possessing considerable power. Though it isn't revealed in "Guild Wars: Eye of the North", Kralkatorrik's champion is in fact Glint, an invaluable ally to players who turned her back on Kralkatorrik and aided players during the "Guild Wars: Prophecies" campaign.

14. How many types of Destroyer are there (not including the Great Destroyer and the Disc of Chaos)?

From Quiz Guild Wars: Eye of the North

Answer: Twelve

There are twelve types of Destroyer that can be encountered throughout the game. They are: Destroyer of Bones, Destroyer of Flesh, Destroyer of Sinew, Destroyer of Earth, Destroyer of Compassion, Destroyer of Deeds, Destroyer of Hordes, Destroyer of Hope, Destroyer of Thoughts, Destroyer of Lives, Destroyer Tremor, and Destroyer of Souls. Perhaps the key feature of Destroyers is that they are highly immune to fire damage, so Elementalists would be better off changing to a Water Magic build.

15. Brave adventurers can travel through the Verdant Cascades to reach the game's elite dungeon. What is it called?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Tarnished Coast

Answer: Slaver's Exile

Slaver's Exile's elite dungeon status refers to the fact that it is actually four dungeons rolled into one. Four bosses reside at the end of three paths - Selvetarm, a dryder; Forgewight, an elemental; Rand Stormweaver and Justiciar Thommis, a centaur and White Mantle knight, respectively. The dungeon's final boss, a powerful Stone Summit ritualist called Duncan the Black. Thankfully, the dungeon doesn't have to be completed all in one sitting. Upon entering, players receive a quest entitled "The Last Hierophant", which tracks their progress through the dungeon and updates every time one of the intermediate bosses is killed. Thus, they can be killed in any order and in any mode (normal or hard), with the exception of Duncan the Black, who can only be fought once the previous four are out of the way.

16. Players wishing to participate in the asuran game of Polymock will find themselves in which Polymock arena when battling against opponents in the Charr Homelands?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Charr Homelands

Answer: Polymock Crossing

In the game of Polymock, players choose three of their best pieces and, one at a time, attempt to defeat their opponent's chosen pieces before they themselves are defeated. Players can face the charr Polymock player Dune Teardrinker in the Polymock Crossing arena and, if all goes well, can reward successful players with the Aloe Seed Polymock piece.

17. Where in the Far Shiverpeaks is Gwen's Garden?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Far Shiverpeaks

Answer: Just outside the Eye of the North

Gwen's Garden, in the Ice Cliff Chasms, is the only place in the Far Shiverpeaks where players can find Red Iris Flowers growing. They are grown by Gwen herself, as a reminder of her home in Ascalon before the Charr destroyed it in the Searing. During the annual Wintersday celebrations, players can find a Jingle Bear and a White Jingle Moa in Gwen's Garden if they complete a series of quests for an NPC in Eye of the North.

18. The Hall of Monuments is only accessible from which outpost?

From Quiz Guild Wars: Eye of the North

Answer: Eye of the North

The Hall of Monuments can display tapestries to recognize achievements that the player has attained. The monuments include displaying minipets, destroyer weapons, elite armour sets, and titles. According to the "Guild Wars" website, the Hall is designed to be a 'bridge' between the original "Guild Wars" series and the upcoming "Guild Wars 2", and will allow players to port achievements to the new game to unlock bonuses.

19. Polymock has its roots here in the Tarnished Coast. This asuran pastime that players can participate in begins and concludes in the capital city. What final prize do players receive upon beating the Polymock champion?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Tarnished Coast

Answer: Mirage Iboga Polymock Piece

Players battle each other using their Polymock pieces. Each piece has a unique combination of three skills, with the remaining five skill slots filled with general utility skills shared amongst all Polymock pieces. The mirage iboga uses three special Polymock versions of mesmer skills: Overload, Calculated Risk and Recurring Insecurity.

20. Located at the northern edge of Drakkar Lake, just west of Sifhalla, is which dungeon?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Far Shiverpeaks

Answer: Sepulchre of Dragrimmar

The Sepulchre of Dragrimmar is a two-level dungeon which can only be fully explored and conquered by accepting the quest 'The Anvil of Dragrimmar' from Outrunner Remlok, who waits just outside the dungeon. The primary bosses in the dungeon are Elemental creatures: Fragment of Antiquities, Regent of Ice, and Remnant of Antiquities, the latter being the final boss.

21. By far the toughest dungeon I've been through is Frostmaw's Burrows. Especially in Hard Mode. Ugh, never again. Anyway, which quest must you, or someone in your party, have to be able to proceed past the first level?

From Quiz Ten of My Favourite Dungeons

Answer: Cold Vengeance

This is a five-level dungeon. Five levels! It's madness. And in Hard Mode, it's even madder. Evidently, I'm not a fan of this dungeon. And for a good reason. First time through, my party wiped on the fourth floor. Second time through, we wiped during the boss fight with Frostmaw the Kinslayer. Third time, we defeated him, but I died before I could get my reward from the chest (I was clearly not happy). I vowed never to go in here again. And I've stuck to it...for now. Frostmaw's Burrows is chock full of some tough foes, but the rewards are quite good. The final chest has a wide variety of unique items, and some nice gold weapons too (including the Silverwing Recurve Bow - perhaps the most expensive bow in the game, and guess what? I want one). You also gain a respectable amount of Norn reputation points when you're done. But I still don't want to go back. The only reason I've put this in here as one of my favourite dungeons is purely because of the quality of (potential) rewards.

22. Ulfarr Leadfoot challenges players to a repeatable race in which zone?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Tarnished Coast

Answer: Verdant Cascades

Just outside Umbral Grotto, players can talk to a norn called Ulfarr Leadfoot and participate in a race. As well as being fast, Ulfarr also plays dirty if he thinks he is going to lose. He will switch the position of the finish line if he falls too far behind in an attempt to catch up and win. The way to overcome this is to wait at the point where the two race paths branch off, provided players know the routes, and continue on to the correct finish line once Ulfarr catches up.

23. Rragar Maneater, the final boss of Rragar's Menagerie, fights alongside his fleshreaver pet. What is its name?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Charr Homelands

Answer: Hidesplitter

At the end of the third level of Rragar's Menagerie, a dungeon found in the southwestern corner of Sacnoth Valley, resides Rragar Maneater, a mesmer/monk, and Hidesplitter, a paragon. This final boss fight involves taking on both foes at once, though it is advised to focus fire on Rragar first, as he has the ability to resurrect Hidesplitter should it go down before him. To make things just a little bit harder, Rragar can hex targets with his special monster skill, The Master's Mark, and Hidesplitter can hit anyone hexed with this skill with a powerful knockdown attack. Interruptions are, therefore, useful skills to use against this formidable duo.

24. What blessing can players receive from Norn at most resurrection shrines?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Far Shiverpeaks

Answer: Norn Hunting Party

There are four ranks to the Norn Hunting Party blessing. The first rank can be acquired simply by talking to a Norn stationed at a resurrection shrine (provided players can best them in combat first). This will reward them with 1 Norn reputation point for every foe the party kills. Every 25 kills will result in a random bonus for each player, be it increased health for a limited time, a huge bonus for killing bosses, or the next rank in the blessing. Rank 2 awards players with an extra 2 reputation points every time they get a kill. Likewise, rank 3 awards 3 bonus reputation points, and rank 4, the highest rank, yields a substantial 4 additional reputation points for each kill. If players do not receive a Hunt Rank increase as a bonus, they can try their luck by speaking to a Norn at a resurrection shrine who may reward them with the increase.

25. Rragar's Menagerie, in the Charr Homelands, is home to Rragar and his collection of Fleshreavers. His 'pet' Fleshreaver, if you like, fights alongside him in the final boss battle. So what is its name?

From Quiz Ten of My Favourite Dungeons

Answer: Hidesplitter

Hidesplitter (and to a certain extent, Rragar) is a tough little critter that clearly has a face that only his mother could love. And he doesn't have a mother, so he's extra mean. Rragar Maneater, which is his full name, can use a skill called The Master's Mark, which puts an invisible target on whoever he cast it on. Hidesplitter can then use the devastating skill called The Sniper's Spear and pump out a fair amount of damage. It is best to kill Rragar first, because he'll just use a resurrection skill and bring Hidesplitter back to life if required. There is however a small tactic to avoid being hit by The Sniper's Spear - in the boss room, there is a large boulder near the center of the room which will block all spear attacks by Hidesplitter, leaving you free to bring down Rragar with spells.

26. Who is the King of the Dwarves?

From Quiz Guild Wars: Eye of the North

Answer: Jalis Ironhammer

Jalis Ironhammer is the King of the Dwarven race, and Brechnar is his brother, who sacrificed himself in the events of the "Prophecies" campaign. The voice of King Jalis belongs to Paul Eiding, who is known for providing the voice of Colonel Campbell in the "Metal Gear Solid" series, and also Zeus in "God of War".

27. Ventari's Sanctuary can be found in southwestern Arbor Bay. What is Ventari the centaur doing there?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Tarnished Coast

Answer: Tending to a special tree

Ventari was first met in "Guild Wars: Prophecies" at his refuge in the Maguuma Jungle. In "Eye of the North", he can be found in his sanctuary in Arbor Bay, nurturing and looking after a special tree, grown from a seed given to Ventari by his human friend, Ronan. While the tree is in its early stages during the events of "Eye of the North", it grows over the 250 years between "Guild Wars" and "Guild Wars 2" and eventually becomes the Pale Tree, the mother of the newly-created sylvari race.

28. Two heroes can be added to your party in the Charr Homelands. One is Pyre Fierceshot, whose recruitment is part of the storyline and cannot be circumvented. Who is the other hero, whose recruitment is entirely optional?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Charr Homelands

Answer: Anton

Anton is an adept assassin and former prisoner, before he joined the Ebon Vanguard and their campaign against the charr. After players complete the primary quest 'The Missing Vanguard', Captain Langmar, leader of the Ebon Vanguard, offers a series of quests which culminate in the recruitment of Anton to the player's party. As stated before, this is entirely optional and not required in order to complete the game. Despite being an assassin, players who do not have 'Guild Wars: Factions', in which the assassin profession was introduced, are not precluded from recruiting Anton.

29. The 'rabbit hole' in Drakkar Lake pays homage to which classic comedy film?

From Quiz "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" - Far Shiverpeaks

Answer: Monty Python and the Holy Grail

The killer rabbit from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" served as inspiration for this unique little landmark in Drakkar Lake. A single rabbit will lead players down into a small glade in stark contrast to the rest of the explorable area. Once the rabbit gets to the bottom, it will turn hostile and spawn a few more rabbits, as well as a sizeable amount of Vaettir and a boss. Such a large number of relatively high-level foes in such a small space can easily overwhelm even the toughest of parties. It is advised that the party sends an expendable party member to trigger the outbreak, and then picking the foes off one by one from a safe distance. The following-a-rabbit-down-a-hole motif also pays homage to the classic tale "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll.

30. The Vloxen Excavations dungeon is passed through as part of The Knowledgeable Asura quest. Thus, it can be accessed from two outposts. One is Vlox's Falls. What is the other?

From Quiz Ten of My Favourite Dungeons

Answer: Umbral Grotto

Stone Summit, Skelks, Spiders, oh my! This dungeon has it all - parasitic plants, ominous oozes, and more Stone Summit than you can poke a staff at. That said, the boss of the dungeon is Zoldark the Unholy, an undead guy who prefers to let his minions do the fighting for him rather than get his hands dirty. And this, ladies and gentlemen, will be his downfall. For every Minion of Zoldark your party kills, Zoldark himself will resurrect it, sacrificing 5% of his health in the process. The key to beating Zoldark is killing his minions repeatedly, so he repeatedly resurrects them and repeatedly sacrifices health. Eventually, he'll give up and focus on fighting your party instead, which shouldn't be difficult, as he would have very little health at this point.
