Ten of My Favourite Dungeons Trivia Quiz

There are 18 dungeons in "Guild Wars: Eye of the North" (PC), but, as the title says, only ten will feature in this quiz. Nothing too hard, but it helps if you've been through these dungeons at least once.

Question 6 of 10
6. If the cold, icy depths of the Shiverpeak Mountains is more your cup of tea, then why not try a trip to the Heart of the Shiverpeaks, conveniently located in the middle of the Shiverpeak Mountains. Who will the boss of the dungeon be if you (or someone in your party) has the primary quest Heart of the Shiverpeaks active? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. By far the toughest dungeon I've been through is Frostmaw's Burrows. Especially in Hard Mode. Ugh, never again. Anyway, which quest must you, or someone in your party, have to be able to proceed past the first level? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Rragar's Menagerie, in the Charr Homelands, is home to Rragar and his collection of Fleshreavers. His 'pet' Fleshreaver, if you like, fights alongside him in the final boss battle. So what is its name? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. The Vloxen Excavations dungeon is passed through as part of The Knowledgeable Asura quest. Thus, it can be accessed from two outposts. One is Vlox's Falls. What is the other? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's start with Fronis Irontoe's Lair - a favourite of mine to help my low-level characters get to Level 20 quickly. There are two enemies in the boss room. One is Fronis Irontoe himself. Who (or what) is the other?

Answer: Enslaved Ettin

This dungeon isn't a particularly difficult dungeon, but it is a solo dungeon; that is, you are the only person allowed in - no henchmen, heroes or other players. Your skill bar is also changed, and replaced with special Dwarven brawling skills. It is necessary, then, to equip a pair of brass knuckles. Don't worry if you don't have any - Kilroy Stonekin, who offers the dungeon quest, will give you a pair. Various Stone Summit foes are positioned throughout the dungeon, with the occasional Stonewolf and Enslaved Ettin. Lieutenant Mahgma guards the entrance to the boss room, but does not form part of the boss battle. Upon completion of the dungeon, a chest will appear, which will reward you with a bottle of Dwarven ale - a perfect refreshment after a whole lot of brawling.
2. The Cathedral of Flames dungeon in the Charr Homelands is another of my favourites. Charr and the Undead roam the three floors of this dungeon, but it is possible to run it using a special Monk setup. Who is the boss of this dungeon?

Answer: Murakai, Lady of the Night

The Cathedral of Flames dungeon gets its name, presumably, from the area on the third floor where there are several burning trees in what appears to be the remains of a cathedral. Murakai is the boss of the dungeon, who is found in the final room on the third floor, next to a heart-shaped pool of lava. Awwww.

She's deadly. No, seriously. She can call for three of her servants to aid her. Powerful Mesmers, they are. But they should be no trouble for you, intrepid dungeon conqueror. Because there is a high number of Undead foes in this dungeon, skills that deal holy damage will work wonders, due to it dealing double damage to the Undead.
3. The not-so-secret-now-because-I'm-talking-about-it dungeon called the Secret Lair of the Snowmen is full of, you guessed it, Snowmen. Which of these is not a type of Snowman that you will encounter in the dungeon?

Answer: Enchanted Snowman

"Freezie the Snowman, in his chilly, ice-filled halls,
Has an army of big, bad snowmen ready to pummel you with snowballs." Everybody!

Ahem. Sorry about that. Just getting into the Wintersday spirit. You see, every foe in the Secret Lair of the Snowmen is a Snowman. Despite this being perfectly obvious, they're not the inanimate, jolly, look Mummy a snowman type. No sir. They're mean. They throw snowballs at you. And they don't fly. You'll have to wade through hundreds of them (I may be exaggerating a little bit) to reach the boss, Freezie, whereupon you'll fight even more Snowmen. Still, you could make it a bit easier if you bring some fire Elementalists, but where's the fun in that?
4. Ooze Pit may not sound like the most desirable place to spend an hour or two, but if you want to conquer all the dungeons, you best put on some wellingtons. Which explorable area is this dungeon connected to?

Answer: Grothmar Wardowns

It might not be very smelly, but the Ooze Pit is certainly oozy. Not only does it offer some of the best subterranean scenery in Tyria, such as bubbling ooze-filled pools, but the locals are really friendly...as long as you don't go near them. Who would have thought a little blob of ooze could attack you? Evidently, they can. And if that's not bad enough, they can divide in two and combine with one another, making a seemingly simple fight just that little bit more annoying.

There are three Prismatic Oozes that are the bosses of this dungeon, and they certainly won't let you kill them once and give up their treasure. Each of the oozes will spawn two more oozes when they die, and they will spawn five more oozes when they die! They certainly are a pain in the proverbial.
5. If you feel like taking on a big, bad fire elemental creature, then head on over to the Catacombs of Kathandrax. How many levels are there in this fiery dungeon?

Answer: Three

Ilsunder, Lord of Fire (the big, bad fire elemental creature I alluded to in the question) is the boss of the Catacombs of Kathandrax dungeon, and certainly lives up to his name. Bunched up members of your party will find themselves on very low health when Ilsundur starts attacking.

It is important to stay spread out and away from others, to reduce the amount of party-wide damage. Of course, don't stand too far apart, or you'll run the risk of being crushed and/or burnt alive by giant fireballs that roll around the room.

They're big, they're hot, and just plain inconvenient. Any skills that feature party-wide healing or Burning removal are certainly going to come in handy. Did I mention the giant fireballs? Oh, I have. Well, stay away from them.

They're just a nuisance.

Answer: Cyndr the Mountain Heart

Just the very name of the boss, Cyndr, immediately conjures up images of fire and flames. And you'd be right. The dungeon, up until that point is your standard, run-of-the-mill Shiverpeak snow and ice. But the boss room...if you have any Norn armour on, you may consider switching to something a little cooler, because you'll be working up a sweat trying to bring down the giant wurm that is Cyndr the Mountain Heart. Cyndr is encased in a tough shell, which prevents damage from normal attacks (although life stealing and degeneration works), so you'll have to hire Budger Blackpowder and use his powder kegs to blast off that shell if you want to have any chance of defeating Cyndr.
7. By far the toughest dungeon I've been through is Frostmaw's Burrows. Especially in Hard Mode. Ugh, never again. Anyway, which quest must you, or someone in your party, have to be able to proceed past the first level?

Answer: Cold Vengeance

This is a five-level dungeon. Five levels! It's madness. And in Hard Mode, it's even madder. Evidently, I'm not a fan of this dungeon. And for a good reason. First time through, my party wiped on the fourth floor. Second time through, we wiped during the boss fight with Frostmaw the Kinslayer. Third time, we defeated him, but I died before I could get my reward from the chest (I was clearly not happy). I vowed never to go in here again. And I've stuck to it...for now. Frostmaw's Burrows is chock full of some tough foes, but the rewards are quite good.

The final chest has a wide variety of unique items, and some nice gold weapons too (including the Silverwing Recurve Bow - perhaps the most expensive bow in the game, and guess what? I want one). You also gain a respectable amount of Norn reputation points when you're done.

But I still don't want to go back. The only reason I've put this in here as one of my favourite dungeons is purely because of the quality of (potential) rewards.
8. Rragar's Menagerie, in the Charr Homelands, is home to Rragar and his collection of Fleshreavers. His 'pet' Fleshreaver, if you like, fights alongside him in the final boss battle. So what is its name?

Answer: Hidesplitter

Hidesplitter (and to a certain extent, Rragar) is a tough little critter that clearly has a face that only his mother could love. And he doesn't have a mother, so he's extra mean. Rragar Maneater, which is his full name, can use a skill called The Master's Mark, which puts an invisible target on whoever he cast it on. Hidesplitter can then use the devastating skill called The Sniper's Spear and pump out a fair amount of damage.

It is best to kill Rragar first, because he'll just use a resurrection skill and bring Hidesplitter back to life if required.

There is however a small tactic to avoid being hit by The Sniper's Spear - in the boss room, there is a large boulder near the center of the room which will block all spear attacks by Hidesplitter, leaving you free to bring down Rragar with spells.
9. The Vloxen Excavations dungeon is passed through as part of The Knowledgeable Asura quest. Thus, it can be accessed from two outposts. One is Vlox's Falls. What is the other?

Answer: Umbral Grotto

Stone Summit, Skelks, Spiders, oh my! This dungeon has it all - parasitic plants, ominous oozes, and more Stone Summit than you can poke a staff at. That said, the boss of the dungeon is Zoldark the Unholy, an undead guy who prefers to let his minions do the fighting for him rather than get his hands dirty. And this, ladies and gentlemen, will be his downfall. For every Minion of Zoldark your party kills, Zoldark himself will resurrect it, sacrificing 5% of his health in the process.

The key to beating Zoldark is killing his minions repeatedly, so he repeatedly resurrects them and repeatedly sacrifices health. Eventually, he'll give up and focus on fighting your party instead, which shouldn't be difficult, as he would have very little health at this point.
10. And now we reach the final dungeon in this quiz, a dungeon that is really four dungeons in one. Yes, it's the elite dungeon known as Slaver's Exile. Justiciar Thommis, Rand Stormweaver, Selvetarm and Forgewight must all be killed before you can take on Duncan the Black himself, the Last Hierophant. What profession is Duncan?

Answer: Ritualist

Despite being heralded as the toughest, meanest, I'm-going-to-crush-you-puny-humans-even-though-I'm-a-dwarf boss in the game, Duncan the Black really is quite easy compared to the four bosses before him. Justiciar Thommis and Rand Stormweaver are in the same dungeon, named for the former. Thommis is a human Warrior, and Rand a modniir Ranger. Selvetarm is a dryder Necromancer, and Forgewight a djinn Elementalist. Sure, these guys may be nail-bitingly tough, but the rewards for killing them are among the best in the game, especially after defeating Duncan. Such rewards include Deldrimor Armour Remnants, which can be used to upgrade a hero's armour, and coveted weapons of the Hierophant, which use some of the best looking skins. Plus, you get another entry in your Master Dungeon Guide.
