X-Wing Series Trivia Questions

1. Which type of Star Destroyer is the smallest?

From Quiz
"X-Wing Alliance" Part 2

Answer: Victory class

The Victory Class Star Destroyer is the smallest in the Imperial fleet (in this game). The Victory II is slightly bigger. Next comes the Imperial Class Star Destroyer, and the Imperial II Class Star Destroyer. The Imp Deuce (which is what the pilots will normally call it) is the most common Star Destroyer in this game. The largest is the Super Class Star Destroyer at eight kilometers long. The Interdictor Class is biggest than the Victory, and smaller than the Imperial, but its primary role is not that of a warship (although it is substantially well armed and armored). Its primary function is to prevent fleeing forces from escaping by powering up its gravity well generators (a ship cannot jump to hyperspace while inside a gravity well).

2. In this series, gameplay is similar, with only minor changes between games. Many of the stardard features are exactly the same throughout the series. While Imperial craft have green lasers, what colour are those of Rebel fighters?

From Quiz X-Wing Trilogy

Answer: Red

All Imperial craft have green lasers, while Rebel craft have red. Most neutral fighters will also have eithre green or red, and a few will sport yellow. All factions have fighters with Ion canons, all of which are blue.

3. What class of ship do you fly in your first mission?

From Quiz Pilot's Story: "X-Wing Alliance"

Answer: YT 1300 Stock Light Freighter

On your first mission you get to fly the Sabra, a YT 1300, the same kind of ship as the Millennium Falcon. The Sabra is not nearly as heavily modified as the Falcon, but it can still do its job. On your first mission, you transport a cargo container to a space station, then fend off some raiders, and finally return home. Not too exciting, but that's just the first of fifty missions. It gets a lot more hectic after that.

4. The main character in the game (you) is the youngest of the Azzameen family. What name does he go by?

From Quiz "X-Wing Alliance"

Answer: Ace

"X-Wing Alliance" is the only game of the series that has an actual plot. In the rest of the games, you are an unknown pilot.

5. Which craft has ion cannons?

From Quiz The "X-Wing" series

Answer: Y-Wing

The Y-Wing is one of the few ships that has ion cannons. Ion cannons are blue beams (as opposed to red or green lasers) and disable a craft's systems. In missions where the Rebellion wishes to take ships intact, or live prisoners, they will normally employ Y-Wings or B-Wings (which also have ion cannons). The Y-Wing also has strong lasers, and can carry large amounts of warheads. This, coupled with their superior hull and shield strength make them good for taking on medium sized ships. They are also slow, though, and have poor maneuverability, which makes them vulnerable in a dogfight against most other fighters.

6. Who is the Azzameen family business' (called Twin Suns Transport Services) arch rival?

From Quiz "X-Wing Alliance"

Answer: The Viraxo

Twin Suns and the Viraxo are very competitive for business. Their competitiveness often turns to violence.

7. What is the B-Wing's Imperial counterpart?

From Quiz The "X-Wing" series

Answer: Assault Gunboat

The B-Wing is best associated with the Assault Gunboat. The B-Wing is a cross between the X-Wing and Y-Wing. It has ion cannons, strong lasers, and is good at taking out large targets, but can also hold its own in a dogfight with improved maneuverability. The Assault Gunboat is pretty similar: lasers, ion cannons, warheads. It deviates from the standard Imperial norm, however, in that it is equipped with shields and a hyperdrive, making it a much tougher enemy that either the TIE Fighter or TIE Bomber. The B-Wing and the Assault Gunboat both have a normal (unaltered) top speed of 90 mglt.

8. In the story, what did Dunari own?

From Quiz Pilot's Story: "X-Wing Alliance"

Answer: A casino

Dunari comes in and out of the story line. In the beginning, it's just a place you could buy drinks at, but Dunari is also a good friend of your father's, is there when you need help, and turns to you when he needs your aid. Ultimately, you help him with the Alliance backing you up, when the Empire turns on Dunari.

9. What is the optimal maneuvering speed?

From Quiz The "X-Wing" series

Answer: 1/3 power

Although the actual numbers may vary, the optimal maneuvering speed for any craft is 1/3 power. You can see a noticeable difference compared to 2/3 and full speed. The system will only register the speed at these points (0, 1/3, 2/3, and full). What this means is that if you get your system to register 1/3 speed, you will get the best maneuverability, but you can also bump up the actual speed to about 50% or so before it'll kick into 2/3 speed. This means, when dog fighting, you can fly at about half your top speed with max turning speed.

10. Which ship do you never get to fly in this game?

From Quiz "X-Wing Alliance" Part 2

Answer: Snowspeeder

The Snowspeeder is an atmospheric craft made famous at the Battle of Hoth. All scenarios in "X-Wing Alliance" are in deep-space, and the Snowspeeder would not function.

11. What is the TIE Bomber's Rebel counterpart?

From Quiz X-Wing Trilogy

Answer: Y-Wing

Each craft of each faction has a counterpart on the opposing faction. The TIE Bomber and the Y-Wing are both bomber craft, able to carry more warheads than other craft, but not as fast. The X-Wing and the TIE Fighter are both mid-range, well-rounded craft, good for almost everything, and A-Wings/TIE Interceptors are faster and have decent firepower, but can barely take any damage.

12. What is the name of your droid pilot when flying family missions?

From Quiz Pilot's Story: "X-Wing Alliance"

Answer: Emkay

Emkay is your personal droid. He gives you briefings for family missions and will inform you when you have received new mail, or have acquired another souvenir. He also accompanies you on some missions to add to the atmosphere. He has a gung ho personality, always wanting to either destroy everything if it's small enough, or run away faster if there's too many bad guys.

13. What is the name of your father's (Tomaas Azzameen) modified Corellion Transport?

From Quiz "X-Wing Alliance"

Answer: Otana

The Otana is a heavily modified Corellion Transport designed for the risky business of your family.

14. Which craft has three laser cannons?

From Quiz The "X-Wing" series

Answer: B-Wing

One of the few craft in any of the games that you can fly that has three laser cannons (others include the Otana, and the Millennium Falcon, but those are freighters, not fighters). The B-Wing's structure consists of a cockpit mounted on a single long wing pointing down (although the specs say that the wing can rotate around the cockpit, the usual orientation in games is to have the main wing pointing down) with two smaller wings coming out of the main wing, perpendicular to it. On the tip of each wing is a laser cannon and an ion cannon.

15. What happens to your home after you evacuate it?

From Quiz "X-Wing Alliance" Part 2

Answer: It's taken over by mercenaries

The Azzameen home is a space station that you are forced to flee after Imperials come and take it over. You then join the Rebellion. In the one of the later stages near the end of the game, you make a blind jump which lands you back at your home, which you discover has been taken over by mercenaries. In the following mission, you, and a rather large Rebel task force, assault the base and reclaim it.

16. The first battle once you join the rebellion is called "Clearing the Way", in which you clear the way for the Defiance task force to freedom. Where is the force running from?

From Quiz "X-Wing Alliance"

Answer: Hoth

The first battle takes place after the imperials raid the rebel base at Hoth. The rebels are forced to evacuate the base.

17. Which two ships do you fly when training for the Rebellion?

From Quiz "X-Wing Alliance" Part 2

Answer: A Y-Wing and an X-Wing

The first mission puts you in a Y-Wing and teaches you how to use warheads, including targeting, dumb firing, etc. The next mission can actually be flown in any rebel craft (although the X-Wing is the default). This mission teaches you basic dog fighting skills in a series of tests. You learn how to work alone, in two-fighter element, four-fighter elements, and as part of a squadron (twelve fighters).

18. What do Ion Canons do?

From Quiz X-Wing Trilogy

Answer: Disable all craft functions

Ion canons are used to disable enemy craft. You may need to use them to disable escaping shuttles, or important craft that need to be boarded. Also, it is a lot faster to disable an enemy craft than it is to outright destroy it. However, before you can damage either the systems, with ion canons, or hull integrity, with lasers, you'll have to remove the shields. This can be accomplished by both Ion Canons and Laser Canons. In "X-Wing Alliance" you can cycle your firing settings to fire both Laser and Ion Canons at the same time, to achieve maximum effect.

19. Who is never captured by the Empire?

From Quiz "X-Wing Alliance"

Answer: Dunari

Galin is captured early on. You fly missions for the rescue of both Emon and Uncle Antan after you find out that they have been captured. Dunari was never captured but had many close calls.

20. What is the only craft that can carry two different kinds of warheads?

From Quiz The "X-Wing" series

Answer: Missile Boat

Introduced in the second expansion for "TIE Fighter", the Missile Boat was an odd craft. It could carry two different kinds of warheads and lots of each (i.e. 80 concussion missiles, or 8 space bombs). It truly was meant for an anti-capital ship role (more so than the TIE Bomber or Y-Wing). It was a variation of the Assault Gunboat, and had both shields and a hyperdrive. Against enemy fighters, it has a particularly difficult time as it had a single laser cannon mounted on the bottom of the cockpit. It had a high rate of fire, also, quickly draining the laser cannon's charge, even if the recharge rate was set to maximum.

21. Which two weapons can be linked to fire simultaneously?

From Quiz "X-Wing Alliance" Part 2

Answer: Lasers and Ion Cannons

A new feature in "X-Wing Alliance", not found in the previous titles, is that you can link your lasers and ion cannons together to fire simultaneously, provided your craft has Ion Cannons. This is especially useful when trying to destroy a heavy target's shields.

22. Battle Two is called "Secret Weapons of the Empire". What starfighter project are the secret weapons?

From Quiz "X-Wing Alliance"

Answer: TIE Experimentals

The TIE Experimentals are weird TIEs that are remote-controlled from controller ships instead of being flown by pilots. There are 5 types of TIE Experimentals that all have a unique feature.

23. Which two ships have S-foils?

From Quiz The "X-Wing" series

Answer: B-Wing and X-Wing

Both the B-Wing and the X-Wing have S-foils (strike foils). These are the wings of the craft which have both a closed position and an open position. They must be closed in order to jump to hyperspace. The control to open or close the foils is X, though there is no need to do this. They will automatically close when you engage your hypespace sequence, and open when you exit hyperpace. On the X-Wing, the four wings close into each other to make two wings. On the B-Wing, the open position is the central wing pointing "down" away from the cockpit, with its two secondary wings forming a "t" shape. Its closed position has the two secondary wings folded down into the main wing, and having the main wing rotated to point out to the left of the cockpit.

24. On your sensors, yellow dots represent what?

From Quiz "X-Wing Alliance" Part 2

Answer: Unknown units, presumed hostile

On your sensors, yellow dots represent units that are neither Imperial or Rebel, but presumed hostile. An example would be the Viraxo, or Black Sun. Rebels are green, and Imperials are red. Blue units are non-Rebel/Imperial units that are presumed friendly, such as Dunari's fleet.

25. X-Wing is to TIE Fighter as A-Wing is to what?

From Quiz X-Wing Trilogy

Answer: TIE Interceptor

There are three main classes of fighters. Bombers, Interceptors, and Mid-range. Interceptors are fast, and have a stander speed ("standard" speed being the speed of the craft with no recharge nor discharge of shield, laser, or beam system power) of about 120 (A-Wing/TIE Interceptor), whereas Bombers have a standard speed of about 80 (Y-Wing/TIE Bomber). The X-Wing and TIE Fighter have standard speeds of 100. There is another class between the Mid-range and Bombers which have decent shielding, warhead count, and dogfighting capabilities, being the B-Wing and Assault Gunboat (both of which also have Ion Canons), which have a speed of 90.

26. Emon, your brother, has his own ship. What is it called?

From Quiz Pilot's Story: "X-Wing Alliance"

Answer: Andrasda

The Andrasda is a Firespray class ship (like Boba Fett's). Emon has probably the most aggressive ship of all the Azzameens. He gets into the most trouble, and therefore gets the most armament. Also, you can see certain customizations on it, such as a painting of a Twi'Lek dancer of the side (seen in a cutscene).

27. What is the name of Admiral Holtz's ship?

From Quiz "X-Wing Alliance"

Answer: Corruptor

His ship is the Imperial II class Star Destroyer Corruptor. You see him and his ship in the early missions and then you see him later in the Outer Rim. He is sent to the Outer Rim as a result of not capturing the Defiance task force, which escaped from the Hoth system.

28. What is the TIE Interceptor's Rebel counterpart?

From Quiz The "X-Wing" series

Answer: A-Wing

Each Rebel ship has an Imperial counterpart. The X-Wing and the TIE Fighter are both the stock fighter of each faction with moderate maneuverability and firepower, with a normal top speed of 100 mglt (normal meaning that no power systems have been redirected to or away from engines). They can be applied to many situations, but are best at dog fighting. The A-Wing and TIE Interceptor are both fast (120 mglt normal top speed), lightly armored, with decent firepower, meant for taking on enemy fighters. The TIE Bomber and the Y-Wing have improved armor, and carry large payloads of missiles/torpedoes. They are slow (80 mglt, normal top speed), however, and easy targets for other fighters, and are best used against large targets. The B-Wing's Imperial counterpart, as said before, is the Assault Gunboat. These are the main craft that are used in the games, and can easily be paired with each other. Other craft have different specs and do not have a clear counterpart, especially the new designs for the Empire introduced in the "TIE Fighter" expansion packs.

29. What is the unit of speed in "X-Wing Alliance"?

From Quiz "X-Wing Alliance" Part 2

Answer: mglt

No one seems to know what exactly mglt stands for, but 1 mglt is equal to 1 m/s in this game. It is also a unit of speed, not acceleration, and varies depending on how much power you are diverting to the engines. This would not be necessary in space, though, as there would be no friction that would require you to constantly use your engines. This unit is not consistent with the movies, however, in which the ships all fly much faster. I would like to thank the writers and contributors of the "Star Wars Technical Commentaries" for the additional information in this subject.

30. What is maximum shield capacity?

From Quiz X-Wing Trilogy

Answer: 200%

There are two layers of shields you can cover your ship with (provided your ship has a shield system). The first layer constitutes 100%, and the second is 200%. Also, you can control whether you want all your energy put into forward shields, rear shields, or evenly spaced. So, for example, if you started a mission with 100% shields, and you were attacking the enemy head on, you may put all power forward, giving your ship 200% forward shields, and no rear shields.
