Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which type of Star Destroyer is the smallest?

Answer: Victory class

The Victory Class Star Destroyer is the smallest in the Imperial fleet (in this game). The Victory II is slightly bigger. Next comes the Imperial Class Star Destroyer, and the Imperial II Class Star Destroyer. The Imp Deuce (which is what the pilots will normally call it) is the most common Star Destroyer in this game.

The largest is the Super Class Star Destroyer at eight kilometers long. The Interdictor Class is biggest than the Victory, and smaller than the Imperial, but its primary role is not that of a warship (although it is substantially well armed and armored).

Its primary function is to prevent fleeing forces from escaping by powering up its gravity well generators (a ship cannot jump to hyperspace while inside a gravity well).
2. Do you ever fly an Imperial craft in "X-Wing Alliance"?

Answer: No

There are fifty missions in which you fly a variety of Rebel starfighters and two different Corellian transports (the YT-1300, and the YT-2000). You do not ever fly an Imperial craft in the campaign, though you can do so in the flight simulator.
3. In the campaign, which of the following craft will you never see used by pirates?

Answer: Assault Gunboats

All of these craft, with the exception of the Assault Gunboats, can be found being used by various third parties (neither Imperial or Rebel). The Assault Gunboat is one of the few non-TIE Imperial craft. It is armed with two lasers, two ion canons, and a small magazine of torpedoes or missiles.

The main difficulty with this craft is that it also has shields, unlike the TIE Fighters, Interceptors, and Bombers that you're used to.
4. Which ship do you never get to fly in this game?

Answer: Snowspeeder

The Snowspeeder is an atmospheric craft made famous at the Battle of Hoth. All scenarios in "X-Wing Alliance" are in deep-space, and the Snowspeeder would not function.
5. What happens to your home after you evacuate it?

Answer: It's taken over by mercenaries

The Azzameen home is a space station that you are forced to flee after Imperials come and take it over. You then join the Rebellion. In the one of the later stages near the end of the game, you make a blind jump which lands you back at your home, which you discover has been taken over by mercenaries.

In the following mission, you, and a rather large Rebel task force, assault the base and reclaim it.
6. Which two ships do you fly when training for the Rebellion?

Answer: A Y-Wing and an X-Wing

The first mission puts you in a Y-Wing and teaches you how to use warheads, including targeting, dumb firing, etc. The next mission can actually be flown in any rebel craft (although the X-Wing is the default). This mission teaches you basic dog fighting skills in a series of tests. You learn how to work alone, in two-fighter element, four-fighter elements, and as part of a squadron (twelve fighters).
7. Which two weapons can be linked to fire simultaneously?

Answer: Lasers and Ion Cannons

A new feature in "X-Wing Alliance", not found in the previous titles, is that you can link your lasers and ion cannons together to fire simultaneously, provided your craft has Ion Cannons. This is especially useful when trying to destroy a heavy target's shields.
8. On your sensors, yellow dots represent what?

Answer: Unknown units, presumed hostile

On your sensors, yellow dots represent units that are neither Imperial or Rebel, but presumed hostile. An example would be the Viraxo, or Black Sun. Rebels are green, and Imperials are red. Blue units are non-Rebel/Imperial units that are presumed friendly, such as Dunari's fleet.
9. What is the unit of speed in "X-Wing Alliance"?

Answer: mglt

No one seems to know what exactly mglt stands for, but 1 mglt is equal to 1 m/s in this game. It is also a unit of speed, not acceleration, and varies depending on how much power you are diverting to the engines. This would not be necessary in space, though, as there would be no friction that would require you to constantly use your engines. This unit is not consistent with the movies, however, in which the ships all fly much faster.

I would like to thank the writers and contributors of the "Star Wars Technical Commentaries" for the additional information in this subject.
10. Which of the following cruisers do you not serve on during the story?

Answer: Endeavor

When you first join the Rebellion, you serve on the cruiser Defiance, an MC80 Star Cruiser Type 1. You are later transferred to the Liberty, and MC80 Star Cruiser Type 2, and near the end of the game, to the Independence, another Type 1. Type 1 cruisers are the long, narrow Mon Calamari cruisers, while the Type 2 cruisers have wings.
