The first chapter of "God of War Ragnarok" includes several flashbacks to the 2018 game "God of War". One of these depicts Kratos battling against Baldur and eventually snapping his neck seemingly killing him. This action brings upon Fimbulwinter, a harsh time that precedes Ragnarok. In the "God of War" series, Baldur is the son of Odin and Freya and is described as the God of Light and Peace

On their trip Freya uses her magical abilities to morph into a falcon to catch up to them. She transforms into and out of her falcon form several times and attacks Kratos until she is neutralized by falling trees.

When Fenrir dies sparks are shown implying that Atreus has cast some type of spell.

The Spud of War is Kratos in a potato costume. The Cod of War is Kratos dressed up as a fish but it is only available in "God of War 2". The McKratos costume is Kratos portrayed as the typical Scotsman (Ginger hair, Kilt etc) and is unlocked by completing The Challenge of Hades. The Chef of War is unlocked by completing the first "God of War". It makes Kratos a chef who uses frying pans as his weapons.

In the middle of the Rhodes level, Zeus sends this Blade of Olympus down nearby Kratos. He tells him that he must drain all his godly power into the Blade in order to be able to destroy the Colossus. This giant snake-like creature has spawn that are much smaller but won't die unless the Hydra is destroyed. Kratos is able pull the beast down onto a mast on the ship he's on.

Mimir's talking head provides clues to Kratos about objectives and helps provide a backstory and information about Norse mythology. In "God of War" Mimir was a trusted advisor to Odin and the Aesir Gods but he was eventually imprisoned and tortured until he is freed by Kratos. Mimir has Kratos mercy kill and behead him so that he could later be re-animated and help Kratos.
