The Pussy Willow tree is generically known as a Salix Caprea.

Its lightweight wood is used for making canoes, coffins and carvings. Soap can be made from the oil in the seeds.

The Giant Redwood is scientifically called Sequoiadendron Giganteum. It is the state tree of California and can grow up to 378 feet tall. This tree thrives in the humid climate of northern California, where fog adds moisture to the soil and helps trap it there by lowering the rate of evaporation.

The Giant Sequoia is often confused with the Redwood, but they are really very different. The Sequoia reaches a height of 311 feet and weighs up to 2.7 million pounds.

Although the Japanese are typically given credit for the Bonsai, it actually originated in China during the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD). Buddist monks brought the Bonsai to Japan and cultivation was primarily limited to the upper class. It wasn't until China invaded Japan in the 14th century that its popularity spread to all classes.

The Bonsai is intended to be a work of art: to be cultivated and admired as a thing of beauty and not for the purposes of producing fruits or nuts or any food product.

The Juniper is a coniferous plant of the cupressacae family. It produces berries which are the primary flavoring in gin. It is native to Mexico and the South central United States.
