I am just about old enough to have "gone steady" with somebody, but I don't believe anyone ever asked me to, in those words.

Can anyone think of other, more modern ways to say it? Like maybe, "Let's hang out"? Hooking up is, I think, a whole different ballgame. Speaking of which, remember "getting to first base," and so on? How about "petting" or "heavy petting"? I'm not quite old enough to have done that--I think it was a 1950s thing, no?
