Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Largest of all of the African land animals?

Answer: Elephant

Elephants are the largest land animal in the world and can reach heights of four meters and weights of over 15,000 pounds. There are two types of elephant in the wild; the African elephant (Loxodonta africana) and the Asian elephant (Elephas maximus). The primary way to tell the difference is to take a peek at the ears. The African elephant has much larger ears than its smaller Asian cousin.
2. What two words make up the name of a progressive Swedish band formed by Broder Daniel and Theodor Jensen in 2000?

Answer: The Plan

"The Plan" was a Swedish band formed in Gothenburg by childhood friends Broder Daniel and Theodor Jensen. The first single for the band was released in September of 2001. "Mon Amour" was their first hit and the album "The Plan" entered the Swedish charts at #2 under the Virgin label.

This album received four Grammy award nominations for best debut act, best album, best composer, and best pop group.
3. Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus or Earth?

Answer: Planet

The word planet is derived from the Greek meaning literally a wandering star. Planet is a term used to describe large celestial bodies that orbit stars. In our solar system there are eight planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Pluto was once considered as a planet but was downgraded to dwarf planet in 2006.
4. Tableware?

Answer: Plate

The word plate has a large number of possible meanings. In everyday usage it refers to a vital piece of tableware used to serve food. However, plate can also be used to define the seven or eight massive tectonic plates which comprise the lithosphere of the Earth. Plate can also be used to describe a method of using a metal to cover a conductive surface. An interesting trivia fact is that one of the most expensive license plates ever sold fetched the sum of 14 million dollars at auction in Abu Dhabi. Businessman, Saeed Khouri, purchased the plate which contained the single digit "1."
5. A deep blue-green color?

Answer: Teal

Teal is a bluish-green color closely associated with the dark cyan color. As a color, the name teal was first introduced in 1917. In 1987 it was one of the initial group of HTML/CSS web colors. Most people assume that the name teal came into being by association with the freshwater common teal duck which displays this color around the eyes. Teal is also the color used for ovarian cancer awareness and is Crayola crayon color number 113.
6. Earl Grey or Darjeeling?

Answer: Tea

Historians suggest that tea has been served as a beverage for over 5,000 years. The Chinese seem to be the first to have adopted the drinking of tea by mixing water with a wide array of different herbs and aromatic leaves. There are more than 3,000 different varieties of tea bush grown in the world but most all of them seem to have a relationship to the evergreen shrub Camelia sinensis.
7. Now rearrange and add a letter. An opposite of cold?

Answer: Heat

Heat is the central concept behind the science of thermodynamics. It is a term that is used as an antonym to cold and a synonym of warmth, fieriness, and incandescence. As a measure of energy, heat is calibrated in joules. As a measure of temperature, heat is described in terms of Fahrenheit, Celsius or Kelvin.
8. Verb meaning to instruct?

Answer: Teach

There are many synonyms for the word teach such as instruct, coach, tutor, mentor, prepare, edify, advise, inform, catechize, enlighten, or indoctrinate.
Ben Franklin is known for the following inspirational quote that great teachers live by: "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."
9. A case, sheath, or covering of a plant or insect pupa (plural)?

Answer: Thecae

Theca (thecae as the plural) is one really cool scrabble word. Simply put, theca refers to any case, sheath or outer covering and is a term that is used in both botany and biology. In insects, the outer covering of the pupa is also known as the thecae. The term shows up especially when one is talking about the outer covering of a moss or fungi.
10. The fastest land animal in the world?

Answer: Cheetah

Last but by no means least, the fastest land animal on four legs is the indomitable cheetah. The cheetah can run up to 120km/h (75mph) in short explosive bursts. The cheetah also has amazing acceleration capability and can get to 60mph in just three seconds. While the cheetah is known primarily for its ranging of the East African savannah, there are subspecies of cheetah found throughout Africa, and an Asiatic cheetah cousin found in Afghanistan, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Russia.
