In 1972, in a match billed as a Cold War confrontation, he won the World Chess Championship, beating Boris Spassky of USSR, but then refused to defend his title as he could not reach an agreement with the governing body over the conditions for the championship.

In 1992, a warrant for his arrest was issued after he played an unofficial match against Spassky in Yugoslavia, violating President George H. W. Bush's Executive Order imposing economic activities against the country.
He moved to Japan, but was arrested at the request of USA for using a revoked passport, and faced deportation until Iceland offered him citizenship on humanitarian grounds.
Fischer spent his final years in Iceland, dying in 2008 from kidney failure aged 64.

Since then, he has released countless albums, but initially found more success in UK over his native USA, having six number one albums in UK album chart before having one on the Billboard 200 in USA.
Between 1962 and 2020, he had an incredible 29 UK top ten albums, including "Rough and Rowdy Ways" (2020) which proved he still has the magic by reaching number one, while in USA in the same time period, he had 20 top ten albums, his last number one being "Together Through Life" in 2009.

"Street-Legal" was Dylan's album from 1978, which reached number two in UK album charts as well as number 11 on the Billboard 200 in USA.

Just ten year later, in 1960, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives and in 1968 he won the Republican nomination for the United States Senate, to which he was elected and then re-elected four times before retiring in 1996 to focus on his presidential ambitions, which had started when in 1976 he was running mate to Gerald Ford, who was ultimately beaten by Jimmy Carter.
Dole tried again for the Republican presidential nomination in 1980, but was beaten by Ronald Reagan and again in 1988 when the preferred candidate was George H.W. Bush.
His chance finally came in 1996, when he was chosen as the Republican presidential nomination, but the election was won by Democrat, Bill Clinton, making Dole the first major party nominee to be unsuccessful when running for both president and vice -president.
