Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Charlie Sheen's true first name?

Answer: Carlos

Charlie Sheen was born Carlos Irwin Estevez on September 3, 1965. He later adopted the stage surname of his father, Martin Sheen, as his own. Charlie has three siblings, Renée, Ramon and Emilio, who are involved in the acting world, though they all use their real surname Estevez. Their mother, Martin's wife, also often goes by the surname of Sheen.
2. What sport did Charlie play in high school?

Answer: baseball

Charlie Sheen is a huge baseball fan. He was a star on Santa Monica High School's baseball team, the Vikings, as a pitcher and shortstop, before he was expelled from school in his senior year, for a combination of low grades and low attendance, as he often skipped school to play baseball. His love for baseball carried on to his adult life - he starred in a few baseball movies, including "Eight Men Out"(1988), "Major League"(1989) and "Major League II"(1994). He is also an avid baseball card collector. In 1998, $170,000 worth of rare baseball cards belonging to Charlie Sheen were stolen from a display case at the Official All-Star Cafe in New York City.

Charlie also showed interest in acting while in high school. He made several amateur films with classmates Rob and Chad Lowe, and Sean and Chris Penn. Though he had dreams of playing professional baseball, acting is what he ultimately chose, of course.
3. Charlie's breakthrough movie role came in 1986 when he was cast in an Oliver Stone film. What was its title?

Answer: Platoon

Charlie Sheen played Chris Taylor in "Platoon", a film about the Vietnam War. Charlie also appeared in another movie about the Vietnam War, as an extra in "Apocalypse Now"(1979), which his father, Martin, starred in. Martin and Charlie Sheen played father and son in another Oliver Stone project, 1987's "Wall Street".
4. One of Charlie Sheen's early roles was a cameo in a classic '80s teen movie. He had a brief conversation with Jennifer Grey in a police station. Which movie was this?

Answer: Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Charlie Sheen played Garth Volbeck, or 'Boy in Police Station', in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"(1986). Jennifer Grey played Jeanie Bueller, Ferris' sister who always felt overshadowed by her brother. Towards the end of the movie, Jeanie had been taken to the police station for allegedly making false phone calls to the police.

While waiting for her mother to come collect her, she spoke with Garth, who had been arrested for drugs, about her situation with Ferris. Somehow the five minute conversation led to Jeanie and Garth making out until her mother told her they were leaving. Charlie Sheen stayed awake for 48 hours straight to properly look the part of a very stoned Garth.
5. To whom was Charlie briefly married in the '90s?

Answer: Donna Peele

Charlie Sheen was married to his first wife, model Donna Peele, from September 1995 to November 1996. The pair met while filming a commercial together, and got married six weeks after they met. The marriage technically lasted a little over one year, but the couple had separated after only six months. Peele has modeled for "Elle" and "Glamour" magazines, as well as for companies such as Cover Girl. She was also part of a Hollywood Pet Celebrity calendar project.

Some of Charlie Sheen's other past girlfriends include Kelly Preston, Brittany Ashland, Ginger Lynn and Robin Wright Penn.
6. Charlie Sheen won a Bronze Wrangler award for his work on this movie, along with castmates Emilio Estevez, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Kiefer Sutherland. Which movie won them the shared award?

Answer: Young Guns

"Young Guns" was a 1988 movie based on the real life adventures of Billy the Kid. The four stars of the movie shared a Bronze Wrangler award with producer/director Christopher Cain and producer/writer John Fusco. Bronze Wranglers are Western Heritage Awards. They were first awarded in 1961.

A sequel, "Young Guns II", was released in 1990, but Charlie Sheen did not star in it.
7. In which of these movie series did Charlie Sheen play a role?

Answer: "Scary Movie" series

Charlie Sheen had a big role in "Scary Movie 3"(2003), as Tom Logan. "Scary Movie 3" largely spoofed "The Ring"(2002) and "Signs"(2002). The third installment in the "Scary Movie" franchise differed from the first two, in that it received a rating of only PG-13, rather than R, and the Wayans brothers were no longer involved in the "Scary Movie" series from the third film forward.

Sheen reprised his role as Tom Logan in "Scary Movie 4"(2006), but only in a brief cameo.
8. In 2004, Charlie Sheen was the spokesperson for Lee National Denim Day. What cause does Lee National Denim Day promote?

Answer: Breast cancer awareness

Lee National Denim Day, sponsored by Lee Jeans, is an annual fundraiser for breast cancer research and promotes breast cancer awareness. It is traditionally held on the first Friday in October, October being Breast Cancer Month. The fundraiser consists of people donating $5 to breast cancer research in exchange for wearing jeans that day.

When Charlie Sheen was the spokesperson for the event, he was quoted as saying that a close friend of his died of breast cancer, leading to his involvement in breast cancer awareness and research projects.

Other past celebrity spokespeople for Lee National Denim Day include Christina Applegate, Pierce Brosnan and Rob Lowe.
9. Who is the mother of Charlie Sheen's daughters Sam and Lola?

Answer: Denise Richards

Charlie Sheen was married to actress Denise Richards from 2002 to 2006. They met and started dating while filming the movie "Good Advice"(2001). Their first child, Sam J., was born in March 2005, and the second, Lola Rose, was born in June 2006, after Richards had already left Sheen and filed for divorce.

Charlie Sheen has another daughter, Cassandra Jade (b. 1984), with his old girlfriend Paula Profit. He also married Brooke Mueller (a.k.a. Brooke Allen) in 2008. Brooke gave birth to twin boys, Bob and Max, in March 2009.
10. In 2000, Charlie Sheen took over the starring role on the sitcom "Spin City". He played Charlie Crawford on the show. In which of these other shows did he also play a character named Charlie?

Answer: Two and a Half Men

"Two and a Half Men", starring Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer, premiered on CBS in 2003. Charlie Sheen plays the role of Charlie Harper, a character loosely based on his real life image. Sheen has won an ALMA (American Latino Media Arts) award for his work on "Two and a Half Men", and had been nominated for Emmys and Golden Globes for the same show.

He won a Golden Globe for his role on "Spin City".
