The school was named after Neil McNeil, Archbishop of Toronto from 1912-1934. While his tenure as an Archbishop, he fought to ensure funding for Catholic secondary schools.

His polka band helped get Kate McCallister (Catherine O'Hara) home. John played Freddie Bauer in "Splash" (1984) and Irving 'Irv' Blitzer in "Cool Runnings" (1993).

"Uncle Buck" (1989) was a movie about a family going through a tough time that has to rely "Uncle Buck". Buck was a bachelor who loved cigar smoking, gambling and drove a car with a very loud exhaust system but underneath it all, had a heart of gold.

John played Danny Muldoon in "Only the Lonely" (1991) a cop who must learn how to break away from his overbearing mother. In "Summer Rental" (1985), he played Jack Chester, a stressed-out air traffic controller who was ordered to take a vacation. In "She's Having a Baby" (1988), he appeared uncredited as Chet from "The Great Outdoors" (1988). At the end of this movie, he suggested a name for the newborn baby born to Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern's characters.
