Answer: Jack of Hearts and Jack of Spades

Another poker term popular today is "dead man's hand": aces and eights. Supposedly, this was the hand held by Wild Bill Hickcock when he was gunned down. A more recent poker nickname is a "Motown" hand when a player holds jacks and fives. If that doesn't make sense, say it fast.

Degas' visual decline began when was 36, due to a form of retinopathy. He attributed his problems to the cold weather he experienced during guard duty and to the bright sunlight to which he was later exposed during his time in Louisiana. In 1926, while working in an oil field, a chip hit Post in his left eye. A massive infection developed, and Post allowed doctors remove his left eye in the hope that the infection would recede. It did. With only one eye, he trained himself to judge distances by the height of telephone poles and two-story buildings. He and Will Rogers were killed in a crash at Barrow, Alaska.

In 1801, Vice-Admiral Nelson would not withdraw at the Battle of Copenhagen, pressed the attack, and won the engagement. It is believed that this is where the phrase "to turn a blind eye" originated.
