Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Cedric's profession?

Answer: Blacksmith

Three wandering troubadours, on their way to the court of King Arthur, wander in to the blacksmith's shop. They find out that the King wants Cedric's head because he dares to love the fair Elaine. After they hear his story, the Stooges vow to help Cedric. Cedric was played by Jock Mahoney (billed as Jacques O'Mahoney, his real name), who played Tarzan in several movies in the 60s, but was best known as a stuntman.

He was the stepfather of Sally Field.
2. When the King's soldiers come looking for Cedric, the Stooges demonstrate their skill as troubadours by singing. What does the soldier do in response?

Answer: Gives them the triple face slap

Moe and Larry are in the midst of trying to get Shemp out of his armor. When Moe asks how he got into this thing, Shemp replies that he kept popping rivets so he had his tailor spot-weld him. They sing "Oh...we...stuck our little tootsies in the water, and we ducked under the waves, we did ah ha".

The guard gives them the triple face slap, and asks the Stooges why they need armor if they're troubadours. Shemp tells the soldier they need the armor because people throw things. Moe proudly tells him, the way they sing, sometimes people throw rocks, to which the soldier replies, "I can believe that".
3. The Stooges go to the castle with Cedric and serenade Elaine below her window. Elaine joins in the song and lets them know how she'll signal when the coast is clear. What is her signal?

Answer: She'll raise the shade

The troubadours sing "Oh Elaine", quite nicely, to the tune of the lovely Sextet from Lucia. They sing, "Oh Elaine, Elaine come out, babe, take a look who's standing here, right here, the big boy is here, we see the coast is clear..." They are briefly interrupted by a guard, and then continue, "Oh Elaine, come out oh please come out, time is short, the guards are hanging about, your Cedric's here, no kidding Cedric's here..." Elaine then joins in with her classically-trained soprano voice to let them know she sees her darling Cedric standing there and she'll raise the shade when the coast is clear. Elaine was played by Christine McIntyre who appeared in "Micro-Phonies" singing "Voice of Spring", as well as in many other Stooge shorts.
4. The Black Prince and the King enter Elaine's room while the Stooges are still singing and see Cedric. The King tells the guard to take Elaine to his room because she can be better guarded there. The Black Prince will stay in Elaine's room.

Answer: False

The King says he'll stay in Elaine's room. While getting ready for bed, he inadvertently gives the signal for the coast being clear by raising the shade. The King was played by Vernon Dent, who appeared in many Stooge shorts.
5. Elaine must marry the Black Prince to save Cedric's life.

Answer: True

After Cedric and the Stooges are imprisoned, the Black Prince tells Elaine he will spare their lives if she marries him. She tells him that she loves Cedric, even if he is a smith, and the Black Prince replies that she'll forget all about love after they marry. Philip Van Zandt played the Black Prince.
6. Who climbs the trellis to Elaine's room?

Answer: Shemp

After seeing the signal given obliviously by the King, Shemp is elected to go up. They figure they'll get Elaine's attention first so she won't be frightened, so they throw some rocks at the window. The King hears the rocks and sees that someone is coming up, so he gets his sword and pretends to be asleep.

Shemp comes in and is soon found out by the King, who follows Shemp back down the trellis. Cedric and the Stooges are soon captured by the King's soldiers and imprisoned in the dungeon.
7. Down in the dungeon, is Cedric in a separate cell from the Stooges?

Answer: Yes

Elaine sends down some food for the prisoners which contains tools to break out of their cells. The Stooges go to work on the bars, but can't get anywhere and give up. Just then, their cell door swings open, but they don't notice it until Larry remarks that there's a draft, and Shemp says it's because the door is open. Once out, they attempt to free Cedric from his adjoining cell, but have to leave him because the guards are coming.

The Stooges flee with two guards in pursuit leading to a hilarious chase scene in a hallway of the castle.

While hiding in a room, the Stooges overhear the Black Prince's plan to kill Cedric and the King.
8. What is the signal for Cedric to be killed?

Answer: sounding of the trumpets

The Black Prince was reneging on his promise to Elaine to spare Cedric's life if she married him. After she is told by the Stooges of the Black Prince's plan to not only kill Cedric, but also her father, she tells them the trumpets will sound when the engagement is announced.

They must do something to prevent the trumpets from sounding, so they grab some fruit and throw it at the trumpets, blocking them. When they can finally blow, the fruit flies out of the trumpets and hits the Black Prince in the face.
9. What modern item do the Stooges use when they need to distract the court?

Answer: Radio

The Stooges, dressed in knight's armor, must distract everyone and make a lot of noise while Elaine frees Cedric from the dungeon, so they decide to dance. Shemp asks, "What do we use for music?", "Turn on the radio", Moe replies. "Are you kidding, this is ancient times", says Larry, to which Moe retorts, "This is an ancient radio".

When they first turn the radio on, an ad is running asking "are you still wearing last year's rusty old armor, then see the scowling Scotsman". Moe turns the dial and finds some music, so they perform a soft-shoe routine, in suits of armor, to "Old Folks at Home (Swanee River)".
10. What is Shemp's response when the King exclaims, "My daughter marry a Smith?!"?

Answer: Millions of women marry Smiths every year

During their dance, Moe ends up getting mad at Shemp, and when they take their helmets off, the King and the Black Prince recognize them and move to take them back to the dungeon. Just then, Elaine arrives with Cedric and reveals the Black Prince's plan to kill the King.

After the Black Prince and his cohort are led away, the King makes this remark about his daughter marrying a smith. Then he says there will be a wedding after all, let the trumpets sound. The trumpets are blown and the Stooges get fruit in the face.
