Answer: A Nightmare on Elm Street

"A Nightmare on Elm Street" was released in 1984. It was the beginning of one of the most iconic horror franchises in history, which saw disfigured killer Freddy Krueger haunt, stalk and kill the teenaged children of Elm Street...in their dreams! Freddy is motivated by revenge on the parents of Elm Street, who themselves murdered him for killing a child whilst working as a school janitor.

In the movie, Depp played the protagonist's boyfriend. His character was the first really memorable murder by Freddy, after being sucked into his own mattress, unleashing an avalanche of blood! (It was pretty cool!)

Answer: Once Upon a Time in Mexico

'Once Upon A Time In Mexico' serves as the conclusion to Robert Rodriguez's 'Mexico Trilogy', its predecessors being 'El Mariachi' and 'Desperado'. In this film, Depp plays a CIA agent who hires the protagonist, El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas) to kill a drug lord (Willem Dafoe) to prevent the latter from overthrowing the Mexican government by killing the President of Mexico.

The film and soundtrack were released in 2003. Credited to Tonto's Giant Nuts, the piece "Sand's (Theme)" was composed by Depp himself. He also contributed original music to the "Chocolat" soundtrack (2000).

Depp was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on June 9, 1963. Owensboro is located in Daviess County.

Depp had a small cameo alongside his partner from the TV series, Peter DeLuise. The movie follows two mis-matched cops who go undercover to redeem theirselves by busting a drug ring operating out of a high school, after their first arrest goes horribly wrong. Unsurprisingly, it does not go too smoothly, but there are good laughs to be had from Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum's odd couple!

The other three answers have all had actors from the originals reprise their roles in big-screen adaptations: John Forsythe retained his role as Charlie in the 2000 film "Charlie's Angels" (though of course, he wasn't seen), Lou Ferrigno was again the Hulk in 2008's "The Incredible Hulk" and of course the Muppets are themselves in just about everything!

Depp revealed on a 2002 episode of 'Inside The Actors Studio' that it was fellow actor Nicolas Cage who persuaded him to try his luck at acting. Depp was introduced to Cage via his ex-wife, Lori Anne Allison, a make-up artist.

Nicolas Cage was born Nicolas Kim Coppola, and is the nephew of the famous director of the iconic Godfather trilogy, Francis Ford Coppola. Nicolas has forged a great career in his own right, starring in many hit films such as 'Leaving Las Vegas', 'The Rock', 'National Treasure', and 'Kick-Ass'.

Burton and Depp have collaborated on many occasions with some well-known examples of their work being 'Edward Scissorhands', 'Ed Wood', 'Sleepy Hollow', 'Charlie And The Chocolate Factory (2005)', 'Corpse Bride', 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street', and 'Alice In Wonderland'.

As the first film in the franchise ("Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl") was released, Depp confirmed via many interviews that his inspiration for the character of Jack Sparrow was Keith Richards, guitarist of the legendary Rolling Stones. In one interview given to BluntReviews, he went on to say how Richards not only inspired the look of the character, but also his 'sage-like intelligence'.


Richards actually makes cameo appearances in 'At World's End' and 'On Stranger Tides' as Jack Sparrow's father!

Answer: Sweeney Todd

Sweeney Todd is (contrary to popular belief) a fictional character created from superstition in 1800s England about the meat contents of their pies. In some adaptations, Todd is merely a skilled thief, and in others he is portrayed as a tragic villain. The main thing that unites all versions of Todd is that he was a murderer, who posed as a barber. He would slice the throats of his victims, then drop their bodies through a trapdoor to the basement, where his accomplice, Mrs Lovett, would bake them into pies.


It took Depp until 2008 to actually win a Golden Globe! Shocking, since I believe all these characters would have merited one, not just Sweeney Todd.

Answer: Iggy Pop

Johnny was in a number of bands before Nicolas Cage convinced him to turn to acting. He'd dropped out of school at 15 to try and make it as a rock star.

It was at the Main Street Club in Gainesville, Florida, on the 7th of November, 1981 that Depp led his band to open for the legendary Iggy Pop. Iggy's real name is James Newell Osterberg Jr., and he is known globally as the frontman of his band 'Iggy Pop and The Stooges', who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2010. Pop has also found solo success, with some of his well known songs being 'Lust For Life', 'The Passenger', and 'Search And Destroy'.

Answer: Assaulting paparazzi

Upon leaving the Mirabelle restaurant in London in the early hours of the morning, Depp was involved in an altercation with a paparazzo who tried to take his picture. Police confirmed they had cautioned Depp, who had allegedly threatened the man with a wooden plank!
