Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Dino Paul Crocetti and Joseph Levitch made us all laugh in dozens of movies including "At War with the Army" (1950), and "The Caddy" (1953). By what names were this duo better known?

Answer: Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis

Martin and Lewis were one of the most popular comedy duos of their day. When they split in July 1956, they had been performing together for over 10 years. While Kirk Douglas and Joseph Levitt have certainly done their fair share of comedy, Jim Croce and Dino Kartsonakis are musicians. Paul Hartman and Joe E. Brown were both comedic actors, but were not known for working together.
2. Philip Silversmith starred in "You're in the Army Now" in 1941, and "There Goes the Bride" in 1980. Under what name did he act?

Answer: Phil Silvers

Silvers is often considered a character actor, but he also had a fairly successful Broadway career, winning two Tony Awards. Philip Smith and Philip Golden both worked behind the scenes. Smith was the special effects assistant for the 1981 film, "Dragonslayer". Golden was credited with assistant special photographic effects for "Star Trek: the Motion Picture" (1979). Phil Hartman was a comic genius in his own right, but having been born on September 24, 1948, could not have starred in the 1941 film, "You're in the Army Now".
3. Nathan Birnbaum and his partner, Grace Ethel Cecile Rosalie Allen, were in "College Swing" (1938) and "College Holiday" (1936). They were perhaps better known for their TV show. What was the name of the show?

Answer: The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show

Nathan Birnbaum and Grace Allen, better known as George Burns and Gracie Allen, not only shared a show from 1950 to 1958, they were married for 38 years. Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz of "I Love Lucy" were also married, but not as successfully as Burns and Allen.

Laurel & Hardy made dozens of movies together between 1926 and 1945.
Although Dan Rowan and Dick Martin had previously worked together on stage, their first film was "Once Upon a Horse" in 1958. Mutt and Jeff were the title characters in the first successful daily comic strip.
Cannon and Ball is a British comedy duo consisting of Tommy Cannon (born Thomas Derbyshire) and Bobby Ball (born Robert Harper). In the 1980s, they were one of the most successful acts in British comedy.

6. Leslie Townes _____ and Harry Lillis _____ always seemed to be going somewhere together, such as in the 1942 film "Road to Morocco", or 1947's "Road to Rio". What were their last names?

Answer: Hope & Crosby

Bob Hope and Bing Crosby actually made six of the famous "Road pictures" between 1940 to 1952. These roads led the duo to Singapore (1940), Zanzibar (1941), Morocco (1942), Utopia (1946), Rio (1947), and Bali (1952). A final film (the only one to use "The" in the title) was "The Road to Hong Kong" in 1962. Doug and Bob McKenzie were characters played respectively by Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis in skits on Canada's "SCTV" and in "The Adventures of Bob & Doug McKenzie: Strange Brew" (1983).

The show, "French and Saunders," debuted on the BBC in 1987 starring Dawn French & Jennifer Saunder. (Syd) Little & (Eddie) Large also began as a comedy duo in the UK.

Eddie "Rochester" Anderson played Benny's underpaid valet throughout. Like Jack Benny, Benny Hill played a variety of movie roles, and had his own show for nearly thirty-five years in England. British comedian Rowan Atkinson, born January 6, 1955, could not have been in either of these films.

"With Six You Get Eggroll" (1968) is a situational comedy starring Doris Day, and Brian Keith as the parents of a blended family. "Shoot-Out at Medicine Bend" (1957), starring Randolph Scott, was not a comedy.
Louis Francis Cristillo is Lou's birth name.

Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly have certainly sung and danced their way through many romantic comedies such as Astaire's "The Gay Divorcee" (1934), or Kelly's "Singin' in the Rain" (1952). Famous hoofer Sammy Davis Jr. and his Rat Pack pals were in such musical comedies as "Robin and the 7 Hoods" (1964).
10. Born into the Horwitz family, Harry Moses and his brother Samuel may have been "Stone Age Romeos" (1955), but along with their partner, Louis Feinberg, they sure could cause "Bedlam in Paradise" (1955). Who were these three?

Harry Moses and Samuel Howard (originally Horwitz) were better known as Moe and Shemp Howard. Louis Feinberg was Larry Fine's real name. When Shemp was leaving the team to take on more independent roles, his brother Jerome auditioned to replace him, but was initially rejected due to his long hair and facial hair. Jerome stepped out of the room, shaved his head and face and, presto - chango, returned moments later as Curly Howard.
