Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Even before you enter the Magic Kingdom, you can see the upper levels of this castle that lies near the center of the park. For which Disney princess is this castle (which serves as a symbol of the Magic Kingdom) named?

Answer: Cinderella

While the castle in Disneyland is named for Sleeping Beauty, the castle in the Magic Kingdom in Disney World is named for Cinderella. The castle stands 189 feet tall and was part of the Magic Kingdom on opening day. The style of the castle reflects late-Gothic (1400s) architecture. Inside is a special hotel room and Cinderella's Royal Table restaurant.

The picture shows an image of a pumpkin. In Cinderella's story, her fairy godmother transformed a pumpkin into the carriage which she rode to the ball.
2. As you enter the park, you have the opportunity to ride the Walt Disney World Railroad around the park. Which area of the Magic Kingdom is not served by a railroad station?

Answer: Liberty Square

The railroad has been part of the Magic Kingdom since it opened in 1971. The railroad, which is roughly 1.5 miles long, takes about twenty minutes to make a full circuit. Four engines take turns riding on the three foot gauge tracks. The three stops along the way are at Main Street, USA, Frontierland, and Fantasyland. The engines are named for members of the Disney family and Roger E. Broggie, one of the early Disney "imagineers". The castle was designed to entice people further into the park and be visible from almost everywhere in the Magic Kingdom.

The picture shows an image of a bell, which might suggest the Liberty Bell and Liberty Square.
3. Which roller coaster in the Magic Kingdom is a fully indoors ride?

Answer: Space Mountain

Space Mountain, located in Tomorrowland, did not open until 1975. The ride is located inside the titular Space Mountain, which, if natural, would be one of the largest hills in Florida. The ride reaches a top speed of 27 miles per hour. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is found in Frontierland. The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and the Barnstormer are found in Fantasyland.

The picture shows images of stars, which might suggest outer space.
4. Which Disney film provided the background for the Treehouse found in Adventureland?

Answer: The Swiss Family Robinson

Another original feature of the Magic Kingdom, The Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse was based upon the 1960 live-action Disney. The treehouse stands about 60 feet high and 90 feet wide. The tree itself is artificial (steel, concrete, and stucco) rather than real. This is considered a "walk-attraction" attraction rather than a ride. The design of the tree was based on the original designed for the film.

The picture shows an image of the flag of Switzerland from where the Robinsons came.
5. Which US President is the first to record his voice for the Hall of Presidents in Liberty Square?

Answer: Bill Clinton

Although the Hall of Presidents opened in 1971, Bill Clinton (who was US President from 1993 until 2001) was the first whose voice was heard during the presentation. Each US President is represented in the Hall by an animatronic figure who makes some sort of sound or motion. In addition to the current President, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln also speak during the show.

The picture shows an image of a piece of US currency or a "bill".
6. Several types of vehicles are available to give you a lift at Main Street Vehicles. Which type of vehicle is NOT one of them?

Answer: Penny farthing bicycle

The others allow a Disney employee to operate the vehicle. A penny farthing bicycle is designed to be a single rider vehicle and would require the tourist to power the vehicle and steer it. (I'd imagine both would be a liability issue.) The vehicles travel back and forth between Main Street and the courtyard around Cinderella's Castle. Main Street Vehicles is an example of a ride deemed suitable for visitors of all ages and heights.

The picture shows the abbreviation "1 1/4 d", the value of a penny and a farthing in traditional British money.
7. In Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room, which type of bird are the four "hosts" of the show?

Answer: Macaws

Located in Adventureland, the Enchanted Tiki Room is based on the original attraction found at Disneyland. The show is presented every half hour while the park is open. The animatronic macaws originally were voiced by different actors with different accents and nationalities. They are part of a "cast" of over 200 figures (including other birds, plants, masks, and tiki figures.

The picture shows a (crude) image of a macaw, a type of parrot.
8. The Carousel of Progress shows viewers rooms in typical family homes at different periods of the 20th century. As presented in the 21st century, which decade is NOT represented in the tableaus?

Answer: 1960s

Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress was originally designed as an exhibit in the 1964 World's Fair. After spending several years at Disneyland, the exhibit was moved to the Magic Kingdom in 1975. The three decades shown in the exhibit are the 1900s, 1920s, and 1940s. The fourth tableau represents the present day. The Carousel of Progress shows a positive view of technological change, showing the new conveniences that are available to ordinary people.

The picture shows an image of a peace sign, which is often associated with the 1960s.
9. In Frontierland, the "Country Jamboree" show largely features animatronic version of which kind of animals?

Answer: Bears

Although there is a single moose who is part of the show, he is outnumbered by nearly twenty bears who appear during the show. The "Country Bear Jamboree" consists of a series of short country songs performed by various members of the "cast". Several of the bears are found behind curtains which only open for the bear's specific song. The instruments the bears "play" include guitars, a mandolin, a banjo, and a washboard.

The picture is an image of a honey jar that a bear might enjoy.
10. On which Disney film is the "Mad Tea Party" ride in Fantasyland based?

Answer: Alice in Wonderland

The ride is based on the "Unbirthday" scene in "Alice in Wonderland" (1951). The ride features a teapot at the center with several teacups that rotate around themselves as the platform itself rotates. Each teacup can seat a small group of visitors. An additional teacup is placed near the ride for guests who are looking for a photo opportunity.

The picture includes an image of a rabbit. The White Rabbit was a character in "Alice in Wonderland".
