Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1983, who teamed with 'Soulman' Rocky Johnson to defeat the Wild Samoans, thus becoming WWF Tag Team Champions?

Answer: Tony Atlas

Tony Atlas actually had a clean pinfall victory over Hulk Hogan. Hogan would not be cleanly pinned again for almost ten years, when he met the Ultimate Warrior at 'Wrestlemania VI'. Yes, Andre had a pinfall victory over Hogan in early 1988, but it was not exactly a clean victory.
2. Which of the following wrestlers was involved in the 'Wrestlemania IV' title tournament?

Answer: Butch Reed

'Hacksaw' Butch Reed was given a goofy character when he arrived in the WWF. Reed's hair was dyed blonde, and he was dubbed 'The Natural'. Not long before going to the WWF, Reed defeated Ric Flair by pinfall. Reed was able to rebound from the WWF stint by returning to the NWA (soon to be WCW) to form Doom with Ron Simmons.
3. Which classic wrestler was known as 'The Big Cat'?

Answer: Ernie Ladd

Ernie Ladd was perhaps the first black superstar of pro wrestling. He and Bobo Brazil led the way for the likes of JYD, S.D. Jones (sorry, I had to make an S.D. Jones reference somewhere), and Ron Simmons.
4. Which of the following tag teams was comprised of wrestlers once known as 'Kane' and 'Cole'?

Answer: Harlem Heat

When Harlem Heat debuted in WCW, Booker T and Stevie Ray were known as 'Kane' and 'Cole'. What if WCW had copyrighted the name 'Kane'?
5. Which of the following superstars has held the WCW Tag Team Championship?

Answer: 2 Cold Scorpio

2 Cold Scorpio carried Marcus Bagwell to a WCW Tag Team title reign. Scorpio was the first man in WCW to execute the '450 degree splash' and was one of the first wrestlers to execute the 'Tumbleweed' in North America. While in WCW, Scorpio had a (clean) pinfall victory over Chris Benoit.
6. What former F.S.U. All-American would become one of the first WCW Heavyweight Champions, as well as an NWA, WCW, and WWF Tag Team Champion?

Answer: Ron Simmons

On August 12, 1992, Ron Simmons defeated Big Van Vader to become the first African American heavweight champion. Ron's tag team, Doom (with Butch Reed), was the first team to be crowned the WCW Tag Team Champions.
7. Who was the first African American to win the 'King of the Ring' tournament?

Answer: Mabel

Mabel became 'King Mabel' by winning one of the first PPV versions of 'King of the Ring'. King Mabel would soon break away from his tag team partner, who he had knighted 'Sir Mo'. Mabel proved to have little drawing power during his (semi) main event push, which saw him wrestle Kevin 'Diesel' Nash for the WWF title at 'Summerslam' '95. Mabel made a couple of returns to the WWF in 1998 and 1999. Mabel's character soon transformed into the sinister and gothic Viscera.
8. Which superstar won the 'Wrestlemania IV' Battle Royal?

Answer: Bad News Brown

Bad News Brown (or Bad News Allen as he prefers to be remembered) had a reputation of being a legit tough man. Many wrestlers admitted to being intimidated by him. Vince McMahon actually took the nickname 'the Ultimate Warrior' from Allen and gave it to 'the Dingo Warrior'. Bad News earned this nickname prior to joining the Federation.
9. What African American was one half of the tag team that was first to win the WWF, WCW, and ECW Tag Team titles?

Answer: D-Von Dudley

The first team to win all three of these tag titles was the Dudley Boys. Top tag teams the Dudley Boys defeated during their career were the Eliminators, New Age Outlaws, Edge and Christian, the Hardy Boys, Public Enemy, the Acolytes, Undertaker and Kane, the Gangstas', and the duo of Rob Van Dam and Sabu.
10. What superstar became the second African American to win the WCW Heavyweight Championship?

Answer: Booker T

On July 7, 2000, Booker T defeated Jeff Jarrett to become the WCW Heavyweight Champion in his first title shot.
