Both are mathematicians.

You don't often find fictional mathematicians portrayed in the movies and on TV. One exception was Dr. Ian Malcolm. Dr. Malcolm is a expert in 'chaos theory'. The character was played by Jeff Goldblum in Michael Crichton's "Jurassic Park" (1993), when the dinosaurs again ruled the Earth.

Brilliant mathematician and CalSci professor Charlie Eppes (David Krumholtz) helped his FBI brother solve crimes on "Numb3rs" which ran from 2005-2010.
