Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I designed Madonna's iconic cone bra.

Answer: Jean-Paul Gaultier

Jean-Paul Gaultier is a French fashion designer, known for his stand-out designs for music celebrities and stars of the big screen. He created the pale pink cone bra for Madonna to wear during her 1990 "Blonde Ambition" tour. He has also made clothes for the singers, Marilyn Manson and Kylie Minogue.

Other notable creations he came up with were designed for the 1997 film, "The Fifth Element", which starred Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman and Milla Jovovich.
2. I was known for designing the little black dress.

Answer: Coco Chanel

Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco" Chanel (1883-1871) was ahead of her times when she brought her own style of chicness to the fashion world. Born in a workhouse, and surviving her early years in an orphanage, she left her convent school at 18 to take a job as a seamstress.

She spent some of her spare time singing on stage, her signature tune being "Qui qu'a vu Coco?", which is where she got her nickname. She found monetary backing to open up her own shop in 1918, and this is when her clothing designs really took off, as shorter skirts were becoming the height of fashion in post-war France.

Her famous little black dress became a staple addition in every woman's wardrobe.
3. I made a fashion statement by designing Jackie Kennedy's pillbox hat.

Answer: Halston

Jackie Kennedy was a fashion icon during the 1960s and her signature pillbox hat was designed by Halston. Born in 1932, Roy Halston Frowick first became a window dresser, and then progressed to becoming a hat designer during the late 1950s. He became a household name after designing the pillbox for Jackie to wear during her husband's presidential inauguration in 1961.

When hats started going out of fashion, he turned his talent to ladies fashion and uniforms instead, designing clothes for flight attendants, US Olympic Team (1976) and girl scouts.

His legacy carried on after his death in 1990, with his designs still worn by celebrities including Oprah Winfrey and Sarah Jessica Parker.
4. There was no excess baggage with my fashionable luggage designs.

Answer: Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton was a French fashion designer from the 19th century. He started his career by owning a box-making and packing workshop in Paris before making exclusive boxes to carry fashion. Post World War Two saw the introduction of leather bags and then his designs included the "LV" branding which signified the initials in his name. Although he died in 1892, his legacy lives on over 100 years later with new designs still being created.
5. I made many brides happy with my romantic wedding dresses.

Answer: Vera Wang

Former American figure skater Vera Wang is known internationally for her fashion designs, especially wedding dresses and also her bridal boutiques around the world. Her designs include classic fairy-tale dresses incorporating lace and satin, with metre upon metre of floaty tulle.

She has made the bridal dresses for many celebrities, including Chelsea Clinton, Mariah Carey, Victoria Beckham and Kim Kardashian.
6. Women are grateful I designed a casual little thing called the wrap dress.

Answer: Diane von Furstenberg

Diane von Furstenberg designed her first dress in 1970, followed four years later with her wrap dress. It was simply made by adding two separate pieces together, skirt and wrap-around top, to create a new one piece classic. It could be dressed up or down to use as office wear during the day or with smart accessories added for evening wear.

Her wrap dress is still popular today, with many design outlets following a similar style.
7. My mini skirt design showed off female legs to their advantage.

Answer: Mary Quant

Fashion of the 1960s was an explosion in flowers but Mary Quant tended to keep her designs simple with monochromatic colours of black and white, as well as bright block designs in red, green, pink or yellow. Skirts become shorter and shorter during the 20th century, and the mini skirt became synonymous with the "swinging sixties".

The London born fashion designer also created hot-pants, another iconic design of the era.
8. I revived post-war fashion when I launched the "New Look" in 1947.

Answer: Christian Dior

Post World War Two saw a change in fashion, with less restriction due to the austerity of wartime, and more choice in design and materials. Tight waists, stiff petticoats and billowing shirts became fashionable. Ready to wear clothes became available to buy off the peg and designer wear was sold in the High Street for the ordinary person to wear. Christian Dior was at the lead of fashion design with his "New Look" range of clothing. Eva Peron, Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor all showed the new range when they graced colourful magazine spreads.

The French designer Dior (1905-1957) started a fashion revolution that spread far and wide and for years to come.
9. I was the driving force behind 1970s punk fashion design.

Answer: Vivienne Westwood

The swinging sixties was over and youngsters of the 1970s were full of angts-ridden tension. British fashion designer, Vivienne Westwood, was there at the right time and the right place to start a new trend by co-designing clothes for the punk rock band "Sex Pistols". Zips and leather became all the rage, with men and women availing themselves with spiky hair, heavy chains and ripped jeans..

The skull and crossbone was designed alongside the red white and blue of the Union Jack flag. "God save the Queen" on printed t-shirts became the norm. Vivienne Westwood designs today are more muted, with her clothes being worn by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and Princess Eugenie of Great Britain.
10. I am famous for designing elegant ladies shoes with distinctive red-lacquered soles.

Answer: Christian Louboutin

His stylish high-heeled shoes include his signature red-lacquered sole.
