Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I'll start off with a question about a classic. What was the name of the steel roller coaster that was installed at Dreamworld in 1982 and retired in 2003?

Answer: Thunderbolt

Thunderbolt was the first double-loop coaster in the southern hemisphere and the first mega-coaster on the Gold Coast.
2. Installed in 2004 is a thrill ride which is basically a circular arrangement of seats that swings back and forth. What is this ride called?

Answer: The Claw

The Claw swings 9 stories high and rotates 360 degrees. It started operating in September 2004.
3. What is the name of the freefall ride at Dreamworld, which operates on the side of the tall tower?

Answer: Giant Drop

Giant Drop was the tallest freefall in the world when it opened on 26th December, 1998. Riders fall for 5 seconds at terminal speed for 120 metres. Scarier than the fall, however, is the excruiciatingly slow trip to the top and the intentional wait before the fall.
4. One of the roller coasters at Dreamworld is named after a meteorological phenomenon. What is this newcomer to Dreamworld called?

Answer: Cyclone

Cyclone joined the crew of Dreamworld coasters on 26th December 2001, with the intention of replacing the retiring Thunderbolt.
5. What is the name of the boat on which you can take a leisurely cruise around the lagoon in Dreamworld?

Answer: Captain Sturt Paddle Wheeler

I remember the Captain Sturt in the very early days of Dreamworld's operation, so it would be one of the oldest rides in the park.
6. Another ride at Dreamworld is theoretically a roller coaster, though many people would not think of it as such. What is the name of the terrifying magnetic-induction "coaster" which reverses along its own track?

Answer: Tower of Terror

The Tower of Terror magnetically propels the carriage out of the station to 161km/h in 7 seconds, up the tower for 6.5 seconds of weightlessness, to then freefall 100 metres backwards down the tower and back into the station.
7. On the topic of roller coasters, what is the name of the suspended Rugrats-themed family coaster?

Answer: Runaway Reptar Rollercoaster

This ride is themed and designed to appeal to all the family.
8. Dreamworld compare this ride to riding a tidal wave in an armchair. The surfboards and name make similar suggestions. What is the name of this ride?

Answer: Wipeout

Wipeout washes riders around upside down, forwards and backwards and is not for the faint-hearted.
9. The dinky little cars that run on tracks are a favourite with the littlies. What is the name of this ride named after a famous car?

Answer: Model T Lane

Model T Lane has been a family favourite for years. The petrol-motor cars travel along a track on the ground, and the driver can control the speed with a foot pedal and pretend to steer.
(By the way, I made up the other answers).
10. Round tubes seating six people float through rapids in an artificial river. What is the name of this ride?

Answer: Thunder River Rapids Ride

One million litres of water per hour pushes the rafts through the rapids at speeds of up to 45 km/h.
