Thomas Magnum is the womanizing private investigator in "Magnum P.I." He was played by Tom Selleck in the original series and by Jay Hernandez in the remake. Magnum is not originally from Hawaii. Rather, he was born in Michigan and raised in Virginia. Magnum lived for free in a Hawaiian bungalow owned by an eccentric author where he was employed as security, though he usually wound up taking various jobs. Many of the people, city and place names are in Hawaiian. Many of the new Pokémon introduced in the game are inspired by Hawaii, such as Oricorio who resembles a hula dancer. Alola is made up of many islands but consists of four main ones who take the shape of the state of Hawaii.

"The Descendants" is a 2011 film based on a novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings. Clooney plays Matt King, a wealthy lawyer who oversees very valuable land on Kauai. Charlie Chan is a detective for the Honolulu Police Department. He was created by Earl Derr Biggers who inspired to create a Chinese-American detective while on vacation in Hawaii. Charlie Chan was originally seen as a break in the stereotyping of Asian-Americans who were usually portrayed as villains in 1920s media.

This phenomena is called the Yellow Peril. Chan was smart, kind and helpful. His novels took him all over the world where he solved various, difficult crimes. However as time passed, Charlie Chan gradually became an insulting stereotype of Asian-Americans.

In film, he was usually portrayed by white actors wearing "yellowface" and would have exaggerated manners and talk with a thick accent.

"Hawaii Five-O" is a buddy cop show featuring Steve McGarrett and his partner Danny Williams, who is often called Danno. In the original show, McGarrett is played by Jack Lord and Danno is portrayed by James MacArthur. In the remake, Alex O'Laughlin and Scott Caan portray McGarrett and Danno, respectively.

McGarrett and Danno often bicker a lot which sometimes hampers their efforts.
