"Legends of the Fall" takes place in the early 20th century. William Ludlow (Anthony Hopkins) is a former colonel who leaves the Army in protest of the poor treatment of Native Americans. He relocates his family to rural Montana where they live off the land. Brad Pitt stars as Tristan, the middle son. Tristan is well adapt in the ways of the Native Americans while his two brothers are more naïve in those matters.

The story takes place partially during World War I, an event that sends the brothers on separate ways.

Montana was born Jackson Brice in Bozeman. It was there where Montana learned to use a lasso expertly, which later became his weapon of choice. Montana is most often seen as part of the evil trio called the Enforcers alongside Ox and Fancy Dan. He is often defeated by Spider-Man whose webs are able to stifle Montana's lasso.

The Flathead Lake Monster has its origins in a tale told by the native Kutenai people. Centuries ago, the Kutenai people were crossing the frozen Flathead Lake when two small girls cut a giant pair of antlers that were sticking out of the ice. Soon afterward, a monster rose up from under the ice and killed half of the tribe. Since then, there have been many allegedly sightings of the Flathead Lake Monster.

It is said to be benevolent to those who mean it no harm but can be wrathful to those who try to hurt or capture it.

Peggy Hill was born and raised on a ranch in Montana. She left the Big Sky State for Texas where she met her husband Hank. She is the mother of their son, Bobby. Peggy's relationship with her parents is strained, stemming from when she left them and Montana. Her mother is very critical toward Peggy and the two do not speak often.

There have been several incarnations of Red Wolf, all of whom are Cheyenne from Montana. William Talltrees is the most famous Red Wolf. He was born in Wolf Lodge, Montana and donned the persona of Red Wolf to avenge his family. William's parents had been killed after having their land swindled from them. Red Wolf also has a sidekick named Lobo, a lone wolf pup.

Adam Carrington is one of the main villains on "Dynasty" and one of the most evil TV villains of all time. As a baby, Adam was kidnapped from his wealthy parents and raised in Billings, Montana. Decades later, he learns the truth about his birth parents and their money and travels to Denver to get it. Adam often resorted to unscrupulous, cruel and often illegal schemes to make or steal money.

He always got away with it in the end. He was portrayed by Gordon Thomson in the original series and by Sam Underwood in the reboot.

Wolfe is called out to Montana by his friend Archie Goodwin when a tourist on location at a Montana dude ranch is killed. Archie believes the wrong person has been arrested but the local sheriff is lazy and doesn't care too much to investigate.

He also says he survived the Battle of Little Bighorn. By the end of his life, Crabb has become the oldest man on Earth and decides to tell his unknown life story.
