Margaret Tate is the editor in chief at a major publishing company who is suddenly faced with losing her job when she realises she has been too busy to renew her visa and will now be deported. As an escape route, she bribes her assistant Andrew Paxton (played by Ryan Reynolds) into marrying her in exchange for a promotion.

A disgruntled ex-employee tips off the immigration authorities and Tate is faced with felony charges and a possible prison sentence if the marriage is proved to be a sham.

Wishing for one last adventure before he settles down to married life, Jesse Katsopolis sets out for a skydive just before the wedding ceremony. Unfortunately he gets stuck in a tree after jumping and then gets into trouble with a local farmer after jumping into his truck, ruining the tomatoes loaded there by his fall and then trying to steal the truck to reach the wedding on time leading to him being jailed. Luckily for him, his bride Becky bails him out of jail in time for the wedding.

Uncle Philip and his partners plan a trip to Palm Springs and Carlton volunteers to drive down one of their cars. In Palm Springs, Will and Carlton are pulled over by the cops who refuse to believe their story and assume they have stolen the car. Later the two of them pretend to confess to the robbery on live television hoping Uncle Philip will see them on air and come to their rescue.

Phoebe had a turbulent childhood and ended up living on the streets after her mother committed suicide while her father was in prison. In a flashback episode it is shown that one of the people mugged by Phoebe turns out to be Ross from whom she stole a comic book.

Phil (played by Bradley Cooper) tries to work out a deal to get them released by convincing the cops it would reflect badly on them that a couple of tourists were able to steal a cop car and ends up working out a bargain which involves the three of becoming unwilling participants in a demonstration of stun guns to school kids.

It is Bart who tries to pull off this prank and then use the gifts he receives to claim store credit. He gets caught by Chief Wiggum and is unable to bribe him with the gifts because the Chief only accepts cash.

The bedwarmer was enchanted and had actually followed Samantha and Darrin throughout the tour eventually landing up in their car. The tour guide assumes that the two were trying to steal it and has them arrested. Samantha realises that the bedwarmer is actually a warlock who was trapped in it by her sister Serena in the 1600s and tries to get them out of this mess.

In the Thanksgiving episode in Season 1, Robin and Ted are shocked to find Barney volunteering in the neighbourhood soup kitchen. Later on it is revealed that it is part of the community service he has to do after being arrested for peeing on a church wall one drunken night.

In the same episode, Lily leaves Marshall's parents' house after an argument and desperate to find out if she's pregnant is forced to pee on a pregnancy test by the side of the road. She gets caught and ends up in jail with Marshall having to bail her out.

Barney gets arrested again in Season 5 after he is pulled over for speeding and the officer discovers his many traffic violations.

The four are on their way to Paris to celebrate the NBC deal Jerry and George have managed to strike for producing a television series. The plane has to make an emergency landing at a small town on the way where they see an overweight man getting carjacked and instead of helping him, make fun of him and even film the episode.

This results in them getting arrested under a new law that has recently been decreed. A lengthy trial ensues which they end up losing and the judge sentences them to a year in prison.
