Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which green "Sesame Street" character lives in a trash can with Slimey the worm and Fluffy the elephant?

Answer: Oscar the Grouch

Although Oscar's trash can may appear to be a normal sized trash can, it is far, far bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside, housing a farm, a swimming pool and a bowling alley. Oscar was originally orange in the first season of "Sesame Street" in 1969 but changed to his green colour in between seasons one and two, after visiting Swamp Mushy Muddy.
2. In 1970 who originally sang the song "Bein' Green", which provides the title of our quiz?

Answer: Kermit the Frog

How bizarre is the world, when a frog can record a track about his skin colour that is then covered by no less than Frank Sinatra on his 1971 album "Sinatra and Company". It was then covered by Van Morrison on his "Hard Nose The Highway" album from 1973, who also released it as a single.
3. In the 1994 film, "The Mask", Stanley Ipkiss changes into a green faced trickster when he places a wooden mask on his face. Who played the part of Ipkiss?

Answer: Jim Carrey

"The Mask" was the hit comedy of 1994 and gained a Golden Globe nomination for Carrey, although he lost out to Hugh Grant for "Four Weddings And A Funeral" (1994). The film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects, but was beaten by "Forrest Gump" (1994). Carrey finally won a Golden Globe for best actor in a musical or comedy in 2000 for his role in "Man On The Moon" (1999).
4. Famous green being Yoda said, among his final words, "When 900 years old you reach, look as good you will not." Yoda was a member of which race?

Answer: It is not known

Yoda's species was never explained but all of the characters in the "Star Wars" franchise that share his appearance are small, with pointed ears and tridactyl hands. Yoda served as the Jedi Order's Grand Master for 200 years and was one of the few Jedi to survive the Great Jedi Purge.
5. Who provided the voice for large, green, Scottish brogued ogre Shrek in the 2001 movie of the same name?

Answer: Mike Myers

"Shrek" was based on a 1990 children's picture book written by William Steig, who died in 2003 aged 95, two years after having seen his ogre come to life on the big screen. Myers got the part of Shrek after original choice Chris Farley died and decided to voice the part in a Scottish accent.

There are tapes and storyboards of Farley voicing the part, but unfortunately he didn't get the whole movie finished before his death.
6. In which movie does green Mike Wazowski first appear?

Answer: Monsters, Inc.

"Monsters, Inc." in 2001 was the first time we got to meet Mike Wazowski, voiced by Billy Crystal. He also appeared in the prequel, "Monsters University" (2013) along with his best friend James P. "Sulley" Sullivan who was voiced by John Goodman in both movies. Wazowski is an odd looking monster, as besides his green colour, he is basically a round, one eyed ball with extremely skinny arms and legs.
7. "Mr. McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." Who uttered those words in a TV show that ran from 1977 to 1982?

Answer: David Banner

Because when Dr. Banner gets angry, he transforms, thanks to gamma radiation poisoning into a seven foot tall, 330 pound, angry, green, shirt splitting being known as The Incredible Hulk. Of course this never deterred investigative reporter Jack McGee but still Banner kept warning him.

In this great TV show, Banner was played by Bill Bixby while the Hulk was played by former Mr. Universe, Lou Ferrigno.
8. In a 2018 movie, which Benedict Cumberbatch voiced grumpy green creature has a heart two sizes too small?

Answer: The Grinch

The Grinch was originally voiced by horror master, Boris Karloff in the 1966 TV special, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" before Jim Carrey took over duties for the 2000 movie of the same name. All three shows are based on the book "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" by Dr. Seuss, first published in 1957.
9. Who is the martial arts teacher of those green heroes in a half shell, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

Answer: Splinter

Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo first appeared on our TV screens in 1987, with their sensei, Hamato Yoshi. When Yoshi was exposed to the same mutagen that changed the turtles, he became a mutant rat named Splinter, who now lives in the sewers of Manhattan. This hugely popular TV show got its first feature film in 1990, titled "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles".
10. Green, clay man Gumby got his big break on "Howdy Doody" in 1955, which led to two TV series starring Gumby. What was the name of his orange horse?

Answer: Pokey

"The Gumby Show" ran from 1957 to 1969 and then found cult status initiated by comedian Eddie Murphy in his stand up routines of the early 1980s. This renewed interest in Gumby led to a total of 99 new episodes being produced, each lasting seven minutes and airing as "Gumby Adventures" between 1987 and 1989. Even once this series ended, the cult status remained intact with Gumby and Pokey advertising Cheerios breakfast cereal in the 1990s and making a guest appearance on "The Simpsons" in 2005.
