Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We all are most familiar with fictional Alan Partridge (played by Steve Coogan) from his somewhat troublesome and controversial chat show, "Knowing Me Knowing You with Alan Partidge", with the BBC. His origins are not so glamorous. What was his first job at a radio station?

Answer: DJ on Radio Smile

Radio Smile was the station for St Luke's Hospital. He was forced to eventually resign this position after frequent arguments with the patients.
From there he joined Radio Norwich as the presenter for "Traffic Buster" and his path to fame (notoriety) began.
2. It is a wide-held belief in the UK that Sir Michael Parkinson is the best name in chat show hosts with a career that eclipses even Jonathan Ross. His show "Parkinson" had two runs. The first ran from 1971 to 1982 and his second which started in 1998 ran until which year?

Answer: 2007

"After three enjoyable and productive years at ITV, and after 25 years of doing my talk show I have decided that this forthcoming series will be my last. I'm going to take next year off to write my autobiography and consider other television projects. My thanks go out to all those who have worked on the shows down the years and the viewers for their loyal support and occasional kind words."
-The Guardian 27th June 2007.

After a long and glittering career in chat shows he retires having only two regrets...
1: He never got to interview Sir Donald Bradman.
2: He never got to interview Frank Sinatra.
3. Sometimes shows of different formats have "chat" sections in them. Which highly-rated UK motoring show has a segment just like this where they bring on their "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car?"

4. Is it true that Jeremy Clarkson once hosted his own chat show?

Perhaps the funniest name for one of their shows best highlights the slightly whacky nature of Japanese humour...

"Thrilling World Legend! Destiny! Da-da-da-da!"
6. Across the pond there is a wealth of chat shows, some with different twists. The show "Dinah!" (1979) combined guest interviews and singing and each show lasted a whopping 90 mins! What was the surname of this singing, acting chat show Dinah?

Answer: Shore

Dinah Shore came to recognition in a very early variety show in 1951 simply titled "The Dinah Shore Show."
7. Which Dutch chat show often has international guests interviewed in English with Dutch Subtitles?

"Black Books" was co-written with Dylan Moran and "The IT Crowd" is all Linehan's own work.
10. Alan Partridge had a very rocky television career. He was irascible, insulting, obtuse and generally thoroughly unpleasant. It was during the Christmas Special of "Knowing Me Knowing You with Alan Partridge" that spelled the end of his television career when he lashed out in anger and punched who?

Answer: BBC Comissioner

The punch sent him off the air and back to Radio Norwich.

Although Alan Partridge is a completely fictional character played by Steve Coogan, he is presented on screen as a real life person and subsequent DVD releases have special features where his character is expanded.
In fact Coogan's show "I'm Alan Partridge" is all about Partridge's fall from TV and rise back to radio.
