Answer: The Fabulous Freebirds

"The Fabulous Freebirds" were the first team to hold the title. They defeated Stan Frazier and Robert Fuller in the tournament final. "The Fabulous Freebirds" were a three man team. The team consisted of Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy, and Buddy Roberts. They defended the titles for almost two months before losing them to Ted DiBiase and Stan Frazier.

When the title was first introduced "The Fabulous Freebirds" were the reigning Georgia Tag Team Champions. A trophy was used as the National Tag Team Titles until 1981.

Answer: The Long Riders

Scott and Bill wrestled together as a team under the moniker "The Super Destroyers" also. They found great success as a tag team and won several championships. In 1984, they won the National Tag Team Championship. They defeated the team of Jacques Rougeau and Brad Armstrong for the vacated title. The team defended the title for almost two months before losing to Ole Anderson and Thunderbolt Patterson.

"The Long Riders" were one of my favorite teams to watch. They were a couple of no nonsense kind of guys. When they were in the squared circle you knew there was going to be a great match between them and their opponents. "The Long Riders" also held the NWA American Tag Team Championship four times.

Answer: Jimmy Snuka

Terry and Jimmy held the titles for well over two months before they were defeated. Michael Hayes and Otis Sistrunk defeated them for the title. Terry and Jimmy had lost the titles previously, but the titles were returned to them when it was discovered Michael Hayes had counted the pin fall. Michael had helped Tommy Rich and Ted DiBiase win the title with his bias pin fall.

"The Fabulous Freebirds" had a number of internal feuds. It would usually result in the team getting back together after some nasty brawls. "The Freebirds" were an extremely popular team either as a "face" or "heel".

Answer: Buzz and Brett Sawyer

"The Road Warriors" were thought of as invincible team. They won the vacated titles in a tournament and defended them ruthlessly for well over five months. The team of Brett and Buzz Sawyer traded the titles back and forth with "The Road Warriors" on two occasions. The Sawyer brothers were crazy, they were a perfect opponent for Animal and Hawk. "The Road Warriors" held the titles on four different occasions.

Brett and Buzz were real life brothers. Buzz sadly passed away in 1992 from heart failure. In an odd side note, wrestler Billy Jack Haynes claimed that Buzz did from a hit placed on his life. Billy and Buzz were both involved in illegal actions. Brett and Buzz were also NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Champions.

Answer: King Kong Bundy

King Kong Bundy and Masked Superstar held the titles for a very short time. Masked Superstar was injured and vacated his half of the title. The titles were won by "The Road Warriors" in a tournament finale. They beat the team of Junkyard Dog and Sweet Brown Sugar.

King Kong Bundy was known for insisting upon a five count on his pin falls. He and John Studd both went to the WWF and feuded with Andre The Giant. Both men were managed by Bobby "The Brain" Heenan in the WWF.

Answer: No

John Studd and Super Destroyer held the titles for four months. They were defeated by "The Fabulous Freebirds". Magnum T.A. also known as Terry Allen was never a partner to John Studd. Magnum was a former NWA Unite States Heavyweight Champion. He was supposed to be the NWA Heavyweight Champion and was being groomed for the role by Dusty Rhodes. Magnum however got into a severe car accident that ended his in ring career.

Answer: Ron Garvin and Jerry Oates

Garvin and Oates were the champions at the time of the purchase. Neither of the men signed to wrestle for Vince McMahon. The title was not recognized by Vince's new company. It is not the end of the title however when Jim Crockett reformed the company after buying it back from Vince McMahon he recognized the title again. The titles were given back to Ron Garvin and Jerry Oates.

Answer: Atlanta

Michael Hayes and Otis Sistrunk were the champions until Sistrunk quit the territory. A tournament was held and Bob and Brad were victorious over Mr. Fuji and Mr. Saito. They won the titles in Atlanta, Georgia. They defended the titles for a little under two months before losing to Super Destroyer and Masked Superstar.

Answer: The Lightning Express

Tim and Brad held the titles for a few short weeks before they lost them to "The Long Riders". Tim and Brad were a very fast paced and exciting team to watch. It is a shame that their title reign did not last longer. The team disbanded shortly afterwards, but would reunite to win the UWF World Tag Team Titles.

Answer: Ole and Arn Anderson

Ole and Arn were stripped of the titles and it was then renamed. The titles were won by Krusher Kruschev and Ivan Koloff in a tournament. The NWA National Tag Team Titles had a very impressive list of title holders. It was one of my favorite titles. I have always loved tag team wrestling because it was exciting to see the moves the teams would execute.
