1. Many fathers and sons have held the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship, but who were the first?

Answer: Johnny and Greg Valentine

Johnny Valentine won the title on July 3, 1975 from Harley Race. Johnny was the first man to actually win the title in a wrestling match. Harley was awarded the title in a "apocrypha" tournament. He held the title until October of that year when he was involved in a plane crash that ended his in-ring career. Greg won the title 5 years later from Ric Flair on July 26, 1980. Greg held the title for four short months before he lost it back to Ric Flair in Greenville, South Carolina. Johnny held many titles including the NWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Championship before he died in 2000. Greg "The Hammer" Valentine also had a great deal of success including reigns as the WWF Intercontinental and World Tag Team Championship with Brutus Beefcake.
2. Wahoo McDaniel held the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship five times in his career. Who did he defeat to begin his second reign as champion?

Answer: Sgt. Slaughter

Wahoo first won the title from Roddy Piper on August 8, 1981, but had to vacate it after an injury. The injury came at the hands of long time rival Abdullah the Butcher. Abdullah was brought in by Piper to help him in his quest to regain the title. Wahoo would return several months later and defeat Sgt. Slaughter.

The two exchanged the title during their feud until August 22, 1982 when Wahoo defeated Sgt. Slaughter in Charlotte, North Carolina.
3. Greg Valentine defeated Roddy Piper on November 24, 1983 for the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship. What type of match did the two have?

Answer: Dog Collar Match

The two men wrestled at the first ever "Starcade" in 1983. It was a brutal match and the two men beat each other up. The match was stopped when Valentine busted open Roddy's eardrum with the chain. Valentine was declared the winner of the bout. Greg held the title until Dick Slater defeated him.
4. Nikita Koloff was the reigning champion in September of 1986. Who did he defeat to unify the NWA National and United States Heavyweight Championship?

Answer: Wahoo McDaniel

On a televised match, Wahoo and Nikita battled to unify their titles. It was a hard fought bout, but in the end Nikita came out the victor. I remember this bout very well as it was one of the first times I had watched NWA wrestling. I had up until that point in time only had access to WWF programing. I was extremely excited to watch the two men go at it. Nikita held the title until July 11, 1987 when he was defeated by Lex Luger.
5. "Starcade" has always had great matches for the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship. Who did Tully Blanchard wrestle in an I Quit, Steel Cage Match?

Answer: Magnum T.A.

Magnum T.A. and Tully Blanchard were bitter enemies. Magnum T.A.had been pursuing Tully for several months before the match in 1985. Both men were locked in a cage where Baby Doll, Tully's valet was not supposed to be able to interfere. The two battled it out until Magnum T.A. made Tully say, "I Quit". Magnum held the title until May of 1986 when he was stripped of it. Magnum T.A. had attacked NWA Presisdent Bob Geigel. Magnum T.A. was being groomed to be the NWA World Champion, but his in ring career ended on October 1986. Magnum T.A. was involved in a car accident that almost claimed his life. Magnum T.A. was a two time NWA United States Heavyweight Champion.

Barry and Lex were the NWA World Tag Team Champions. They were known as the Twin Towers. The two were defending the titles against Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson when Barry turned on Lex. Tully and Arn won the titles backs and Barry was announced as the newest Horseman.

He defeated Nikita in the tournament final on May 13, 1988 in Houston, Texas. Barry defended the title for nine months before losing it to his former partner, Lex Luger.
7. Lance Storm held the title on three different occasions. What did he rename the title during his reigns?

Answer: Canadian Heavyweight Championship

Lance first won the title from former ECW colleague Mike Awesome in a tournament final. He quickly renamed the title because he was proud of his Canadian heritage. He would go on to defeat both Terry Funk and General Hugh G. Rection for an additional two title reigns. General Hugh G. Rection renamed the title back after he defeated Storm. Lance held the title 115 days combined during all three reigns.
8. Who was the last recognized United States Heavyweight Champion before the wcw was purchased by Vince McMahon?

Answer: Booker T

Booker was the last man recognized as the WCW champion on March 26, 2001. This was Booker's first reign as the United States Champion. He defeated Rick Steiner on March 18, 2001 to win the title. Booker along with Stephanie McMahon awarded the title to Chris Kanyon on July 24, 2001. Booker would have a total of four reigns that covered 271 days total.
9. Rick Rude held the United States Championship one time. Who did he defeat for the title?

Answer: Sting

Rick Rude defeated Sting on November 19, 1991 at Clash of the Champions XVII. Rick held the title for fourteen months until he had to vacate it due to an injury. Rick passed away on April 20, 1999 due to heart failure. Richard Erwin Rood was born in 1958. Rick held many titles during his fine career including the WWF Intercontinental Championship from The Ultimate Warrior.

It was his first WWF Champion and he was also the first WWF champion for manager, Bobby Heenan.
10. Terry Funk held the United States Heavyweight Championship on two occasions. What is unique in regards to his title reigns?

Answer: Terry's title reigns were twenty five years apart.

Terry first defeated Paul Jones on November 9, 1975 in Greensboro, North Carolina. His second reign started on September 22, 2000. Terry held the title for nineteen days combined, he is one of the shortest reigning champions in the history of the title. terry lost the title back to Lance Storm on September 23, 2000. Terry has always been one of my favorite wrestlers because of his in ring ability and his personality.

His feud with the Junkyard Dog always tops my list as favorites.
