Putting The Heavy In Entertainment Quiz

The majority of the questions in this quiz have been inspired by the music use of the UK band The Heavy and where their music has been used in various forms of entertainment, without focusing on the band's music.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the character in movie "Pulp Fiction" that says the line "Great vengeance and furious anger" twice to different characters?

Answer: Jules Winnfield

Jules Winnfield is a character in the 1994 Quentin Tarantino movie "Pulp Fiction". During the movie Jules first says the line "Great vengeance and furious anger" to the character Brett before executing him. The second time Jules uses this modified passage from Ezekiel 25:17 is in the Diner while talking to the character Ringo. However, this time he lets Ringo live when Ringo returns Jules wallet that he had stolen from him.

The album titled "Great Vengenace and Furious Fire" is a reference to those words spoken by Jules in the movie "Pulp Fiction". The Heavy debut album "Great Vengenace and Furious Fire" was released in 2007 in UK and 2008 in the US
2. One notable advert from 2014 is a TV advertisement for the Guinness brewing company. What is the name of this group of elegant dressed men in the Congo city of Brazzaville that featured in the advert sometimes known as?

Answer: Sapeurs

In the TV advert for Guinness the men known as the Sapeurs also call themselves "The society of elegant persons of the Congo". The advert features men from Brazzaville who are from different trades and backgrounds, coming together wearing brightly coloured suits and flamboyant attire. La Sape or Sapeur traces its origins back to French colonial African when servants would be often be paid in clothing instead of money. War in this region may have halted the La Sape for a while but the trend for dapper clothing continues on to this day in Brazzaville with the Sapeurs. Guinness made a short documentary titled "The Men Inside The Suits" and it's worth a watch if you have a few spare minutes.

Throughout the TV advert the song being played is called "What Makes a Good Man?" This song is of the third album by The Heavy called "The Glorious Dead" which was released in 2012.
3. In 2012, what is the name of the video game set on the desert world of Pandora and features Non Playable Characters such as Tiny Tina and Handsome Jack?

Answer: Borderlands 2

In the opening cut scene for "Borderlands 2" the song used to introduce us to the vault hunters is "Short Change Hero" by "The Heavy". One of my favourite scenes from this cut scene is when a bandit is getting out a vehicle that has been hit by a train. Somehow the vehicle has ended up on the top of train and as the bandit exits he his hit by a train signal, I laugh every time I watch that scene, even when I had to watch it during researching this quiz knowing what was about to happen. Tiny Tina and Handsome Jack are two of my favourite characters from "Borderlands 2".

Also the song "How You Like Me Now?" was used for the ending credits of the "Borderlands 2" video game. Both songs are on The Heavy album, "The House That Dirt Built" released in 2009.
4. The song "Doin' My Time" was on the debut album called "Johnny Cash with His Hot and Blue Guitar". What decade in the 20th century was this Johnny Cash album released?

Answer: '50s

"Johnny Cash with His Hot and Blue Guitar" was released in 1957 and "Doin' My Time" was track number twelve. On this album as well, was a certain track number nine, which went on to be Johnny Cash's first number one in the Country singles charts with the single "I Walk the Line".

"Doin' My Time" was sung by The Heavy on the 2009 tribute album "Johnny Cash Remixed". In the song Johnny's voice is heard singing "They call me by a number, not a name Lord, Lord". It was the first time I heard this track during researching this quiz and I must say I was impressed by this version and the original.
5. Who is the wrestler that won the "Royal Rumble Match" at the 2013 "Royal Rumble" Pay Per View held in Phoenix, Arizona?

Answer: John Cena

All four wrestlers mentioned were the last four competitors in the "Royal Rumble" match. John Cena won the match by eliminating Ryback and therefore booking his place at "Wrestlemania 29" Pay Per View. At "Wrestlemania 29" he challenged The Rock for the "WWE Championship" in which he won the match, making him the WWE Champion and the eleventh time he had held the belt

They were two theme songs for the 2013 "Royal Rumble" both of them from UK bands. Clement Marfo & The Frontline are the band that's sings "Champion" The Heavy song also featured during this event and the song was "What Makes A Good Man".
6. What is the name of the US TV series set in the state of Louisiana and with a cast of vampires?

Answer: True Blood

The US TV series "True Blood" is based on the novels by Charlaine Harris called "The Sookie Stackhouse Novels" which are also known as "The Southern Vampire Mysteries". The series set in the fictional town of Bon Temps, Louisiana ran for seven seasons with 80 episodes shown, the final episode was shown on 24/08/2014. The show featured such supernatural beings as vampires, werewolves, witches, and shapeshifters.

In the season four finale of "True Blood" the song "And When I Die" was covered by The Heavy. The song originally was released by Peter, Paul and Mary on their sixth album titled "The Peter, Paul and Mary Album" in 1966.
7. The actor Kevin Conroy is known for providing the voice for which mammalian named character in the DC universe for the animated series, animated films and video games?

Answer: Batman

Kevin Conroy is an accomplished actor appearing in TV shows such as "Cheers", "Dynasty" and "Tour of Duty" but it is his vocal talents that he is most known for. Kevin has provided the voice for the DC character Batman in various formats such as various animated TV series, animated movies and video games. 1992 is when Kevin first started provided the voice for Batman in the "Batman: The Animated Series" and for many fans he is the only voice of the caped crusader.

Kevin provided the voice for Batman in the 2011 video game "Batman: Arkham City" as well as providing the voice for the villain named Hush. The song "Short Change Hero" by The Heavy was used in the trailer to advertise "Batman: Arkham City".
8. What is the name of the 2013 movie that had Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Arnold Vasloo, Ray Park and Dwayne Johnson star in it?

Answer: G.I. Joe: Retaliation

All these films were released in 2013 but only one of them contained that talented cast. "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" was the sequel to the 2009 film "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra". While the film "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" was a reasonable film in my opinion, the most memorable scene involved a video game. The scene is where Roadblock and Duke in the movie are playing "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3", in which Roadblock is exasperated with Dukes gaming skills. If in the scene they played a game which causes me and my daughter to want to throttle each other, they would have used any game in the "Lego" franchise of video games.

In the credits for the "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" movie the song by The Heavy "How You Like Me Now" was used.
9. Which one of these video games in the "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell" series did NOT feature Michael Ironside as the voice for the character Sam Fisher?

Answer: Blacklist

Sam Fisher was voiced by Eric Johnson in the video game "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist", which was released in 2013. The first video game in the games series was called "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell" and Sam Fisher was voiced by the legendary actor Michael Ironside. Michael went on to provide the voice for Sam in five more games in the series, ending his role in 2010 with "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction"

The song heard in the launch trailer for "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist" was called "Same Ol", which is of the third album by The Heavy called "The Glorious Dead".
10. What is the name of the TV legal drama set in NYC that stars Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht as two lawyers, in which one of them does not have a law degree?

Answer: Suits

In 2011 the first season of "Suits" premiered. Patrick J Adams plays the character Mike Ross who has an eidetic memory, who is also a college dropout. A chance meeting with Harvey Reginald Specter played by Gabriel Macht brings the two together. During the first season they try cases while trying to maintain the secret that Mike never went to Harvard Law School. Towards the end of the first season Mike's secret finally comes out due to his best friend telling Harvey's boss. Due to the success of the TV series, "Suits" has gone on to more seasons being filmed with the fourth season airing in 2014.

In the season one episode of "Suits" called "Play the Man", the song "Coleen" by The Heavy was used. "Coleen" is of The Heavy's debut album "Great Vengeance and Furious Fire". The song "Short Change Hero" of The Heavy's second album was used in the "War" episode of "Suits".
