Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Rosie
Answer: The Jetsons
The Space Age version of 60's TV maid, "Alice".
2. T1000
Answer: Terminator 2
Probably some of the best special effects of all time. Even Arnie had a hard time trying to kill him.
3. Tom Servo
Answer: Mystery Science Theater 3000
What's weirder, this show or the movies they review? It's a toss up.
4. Gort
Answer: The Day The Earth Stood Still
Gort was seen years later on a Ringo Starr album cover.
5. Robby
Answer: Forbidden Planet
Robby the Robot is often confused with the robot on TV's "Lost in Space". Robby also made two guest appearances on the "Twilight Zone". One episode called "Uncle Simon" and a later episode called "The Brain Center at Whipple's".
6. Hal 9000
Answer: 2001: A Space Odyssey
"Open the pod door, Hal."
"I can't do that, Dave."
7. Twiki
Answer: Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
I'm sorry, but Twiki was one of the lamest robots of all time on one of the lamest TV shows of all time. Buck's girlfriend was a hottie though.
8. ED209
Answer: Robocop
ED stood for Enforcement Droid. This test model was a little out of control and was never put in service.
9. Vincent and Bob
Answer: Black Hole
Cute little rip offs of R2D2 and C3PO. It was a Disney flick, what did we expect?
10. ABC Warrior
Answer: Judge Dredd
The ABC Warrior models were out of service, disarmed and kept only as a novelty. That was until Judge Dredd's nemesis (Armand Assante) re-armed and re-programed it, then turned it lose on Judge Dredd. Guess who won? Remember, Sly Stallone played Judge Dredd. Ever seen Stallone lose?
11. Dot Matrix
Answer: Spaceballs
About the only time I could ever stand Joan Rivers.
12. Battling Maxo
Answer: Twilight Zone
Battling Maxo was the robot boxer in an episode titled "Steele". Maxo was an old series robot and parts were hard to find. He couldn't fight so his owner, Lee Marvin (a boxer in the days before human boxing was outlawed), stepped in to make sure they got the appearance money. Yeah, he got whooped, bad. Great episode.
13. Cylons
Answer: Battlestar Galactica
Week in and week out, those darn Cylons just kept coming.
14. Box
Answer: Logan's Run
Box was the keeper of frozen food. Seriously. You'd have to see the movie to understand it. And even then it's a little bizarre.
15. Johnny 5
Answer: Short Circuit
Originally called Number 5 by his manufacturer, he got a personality and preferred to be known as Johnny 5.
16. Dalek
Answer: Dr. Who
I never could get into that show. Those crazy Brits.
17. Gunslinger
Answer: Westworld
Yul Brynner, with the fewest lines a star may have ever had in a major motion picture. Also appeared in the sequel, "Futureworld".
18. Andrew
Answer: Bicentennial Man
Who doesn't love Robin Williams? OK, he was kind of creepy in "One Hour Photo".
19. Maria
Answer: Metropolis
Also known and "Futura". Metropolis is a classic Sci-Fi movie from 1927. Anyone else ever wonder if Maria was C3PO's mother?
20. XJ12
Answer: Robot Monster
XJ12 was also known as Ro-Man and looked like a deep seas diving gorilla. "Robot Monster", now there was a 50's Saturday Matinee and Drive In special if there ever was one. It was even done in 3D!
