Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On January 19, 1992 The WWF presented the 1992 "Royal Rumble" which saw the legendary "Rowdy" Roddy Piper defeat The Mountie for The Intercontinental Title. How long had The Mountie held the title for?

Answer: 2 Days

Jacques Rougeau aka "The Mountie" had only won the belt on January 17, 1992 from Bret Hart and then lost it to Piper. The reason why the belt was taken off Hart was because he was under discussions for a new contract and The WWF was not taking any chances. Looking back this would be an harbinger of "The Montreal Screwjob" debacle in 1997.
2. At the 1992 "Royal Rumble" The Orient Express, Tanaka and Kato, wrestled their last high profile match against a duo that called themselves "The New Foundation". Who were these two wrestlers?

Answer: Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart

In mid 1991 The original Hart Foundation, Jim Niedhart and Bret Hart, went their separate ways with Bret getting a giant singles push. After some mild success by himself Niedhart formed "The New Foundation" with the returning Owen Hart in November 1991. The team only lasted a few months as Niedhart was terminated in February 1992.
3. Unlike previous years "Rumbles" the 1992 Royal Rumble had a special stipulation which had all the entrants literally salivating. What was that special stipulation?

Answer: The Winner won The WWF Heavyweight Title

For the second time in just four years The WWF Heavyweight Title was vacant and had been since December 1991. After a controversial bout between The Undertaker and Hulk Hogan, WWF President Jack Tunney declared The Title vacant. Later Tunney announced that the winner of the 1992 "Royal Rumble" would win The WWF Heavyweight Title. Ric Flair shined like the the genuine star that he is and lasted an incredible 59 minutes and twenty six seconds to win the belt. Bobby Heenan was also at his best rooting Flair on at the announce table as Flair had entered at number three.
4. In January 1992 Shawn Michaels and his longtime partner Marty Jannetty had a violent televised parting of ways. Michaels went on to become one of the greatest wrestlers ever and his trademark finishing move was "Sweet Chin Music". That was not his first finisher, what was it?

Answer: A Back Suplex Variation

When Michaels first broke off on his own his original finishing move was a variation of the back suplex. "Sweet Chin Music" is actually called the reverse crescent kick and was used by both Michaels and Jannetty when they were "The Rockers". Michaels used it alone also but it did not become his bread and butter move until sometime later.
5. During 1992 the very underrated tag team called The Beverly Brothers wrestled in The WWF. What were their names?

Answer: Blake and Beau

The Beverly Brothers were actually former AWA Tag Team Champions Mike Enos and Wayne Bloom who had come to The WWF in June 1991. Initially the duo was managed by "The Coach" but they soon fell under the guidance of "The Genius". 1992 was by far their most successful year in their two year hitch as they dominated The Bushwhackers, feuded with The Legion of Doom and challenged The Natural Disasters for The WWF Tag Team Titles on multiple occasions. I believe they could have made great champions but it was not in the cards.
6. In February 1992 one of the most bizarre characters to ever compete in The WWF, the evil voodoo master Papa Shango, made his debut. The villain was portrayed by by wrestler Charles Wright who would achieve his greatest success during "The Attitude Era". Who did Wright portray from 1998 through 2003?

Answer: The Godfather

The character of Papa Shango was different to say the least but was given a decent heel push during the spring and summer of 1992. Unfortunately for Wright the voodoo gimmick got old fast and by mid 1993 he was gone. After being repackaged several times he hit pay dirt when he became "The Godfather" in October 1998. The character was one of the most beloved of that era.
7. When Sid Justice made his full fledged heel turn by turning on Hulk Hogan he subsequently took on a manager. Who was the annoying, sneaky, scheming manager who hooked up with Justice during his brief heel stint in 1992?

Answer: Dr. Harvey Whippleman

Previously known as "Downtown Bruno", Dr. Harvey Whippleman arrived in The WWF in the fall of 1991 managing Nick Busick. When Busick did not last long Whippleman then hooked up with the mighty Warlord. Finally in February 1992 he was placed in charge of Justice was also didn't last too long. Whippleman really had bad luck in his early days its amazing that he lasted as a manager until 1995.
8. On April 5, 1992 The WWF presented "Wrestlemania VIII" and one half of the double main event saw Hulk Hogan battle Sid Justice. After the bout's conclusion Hogan was double teamed by both Justice and the eccentric Papa Shango. Which star came to Hogan's aide?

Answer: The Ultimate Warrior

After defeating Justice by disqualification Hogan was beaten down by the two heels until being saved by The Ultimate Warrior. This marked the first appearance of the Warrior in over seven months after he had been fired in August 1991 immediately following his and Hogan's "Summerslam'91" match.

The Warrior had demanded a hefty sum of money from Vince McMahon and threatened to walk out if he did not get it. He got the money and his walking papers as well. During his absence "The McMahon Steroid Scandal" had broke and a much less muscular Warrior returned.

This created a popular rumor at the time that the original Warrior aka Jim Helwig had died and a new person was portraying the persona.
9. One of the under-card bouts was an eight man tag team match which had a special guest ring announcer. The announcer was a popular game show host. Who was it?

Answer: Ray Combs

The eight man tag team bout pitted The Repo Man, The Mountie and The Nasty Boys against Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Virgil, The Big Boss Man and Sgt. Slaughter. As a special attraction Ray Combs, who hosted the popular game show "Family Feud" from 1988 to 1994, was a special announcer. Combs made several derisive and insulting comments while introducing the heels and got some laughs. Sadly, Ray committed suicide in 1996 shortly after his 40th birthday.
10. One match was advertised for "Wrestlemania VIII" and did not take place. Which bout was this?

Answer: The British Bulldog vs. The Berzerker

On the original card The British Bulldog was scheduled to meet The Berzerker in a one on one match. The card began to run over the time schedule and thus this bout had to be scrapped. There was a rumor that The Bulldog had missed a flight and that is why the contest was scrapped.

This is hard to believe because that would have put him on the "bad list" and just four months later he won The Intercontinental Title in his native England.
11. In the spring and summer of 1992 The Berzerker feuded with The Undertaker. What had The Berzerker tried to do to The Undertaker which started the feud?

Answer: Stab him with his sword

In April 1992 The Berzerker met The Undertaker in a televised match which degenerated into a wild brawl. After knocking his foe to the mat the crazed Norseman grabbed his sword and literally tried to stab him. The Undertaker, thankfully moved in time, but the sword remained stuck in the canvas as an eerie reminder of what almost was.

This feud was without a doubt The Berzerker's high point in his two and half years with The WWF.
12. In June 1992 Owen Hart once again found himself a member of another tag team combination. The team dubbed themselves "High Energy" and this time Hart's partner was a stalwart star of the late 1980's WWF. Who was he?

Answer: Koko B. Ware

The always popular "Birdman" Koko B. Ware returned to The WWF in May 1992 after a brief absence and formed "High Energy" with Owen Hart. The duo wore baggy, neon colored ring attire and had some impressive scientific and high flying moves. Unlike his previous team with Jim Niedhart, this duo lasted almost a year but never rose above mid card status.
13. Another eccentric and revolting character in The WWF during this time was "Skinner". In reality the wrestler that portrayed him was a experienced veteran who just got a lame gimmick. Who was this star?

Answer: Steve Keirn

Steve Keirn had enjoyed great success as a singles wrestler in the late Eddie Graham's Florida territory from the late 1970's into the early 1980's. From 1982 through 1987 he achieved his greatest success teaming with Stan Lane as the popular tag team "The Fabulous Ones".

They wore bow ties and suspenders and their gimmick was two handsome male strippers. Ironically, The Skinner gimmick was a complete turnaround as he lurked in The Florida Everglades hunting Gators, wore a petrified crocodile claw around his neck, constantly spat chew and looked as if he hadn't bathed in weeks.
14. The fall of 1992 saw the arrival of two burly Samoans who called themselves "The Headshrinkers". Previously they had wrestled in WCW from 1989 through 1990 where they were even managed for awhile by a young Paul Heyman. What were they called in WCW?

Answer: The Samoan Swat Team

Fatu and Samu members of the legendary Anoa'I Samoan Family wrestled in WCW as The Samoan Swat Team where they feuded with The Road Warriors and The Midnight Express. In September 1992 they arrived in The WWF where they were managed by Samu's father the legendary Samoan Afa. Fatu had much greater success in "The Attitude Era" where he portrayed the hefty Rikishi from 1999 through 2004.
15. In the fall of 1992 an eccentric but very talented wrestler arrived wearing somewhat of a futuristic costume. Initially he was known as The Comet Kid but within weeks had changed his name to Max Moon. Which future WCW star portrayed this character before another took over role?

Answer: Konnan

Mexican wrestler Konnan actually portrayed the character of Max Moon from September 1992 through early 1993. When Konnan departed veteran jobber Paul Diamond assumed the role which was gone by the spring of 1993. Konnan eventually had great success during the boom era of "The NWO" in WCW from 1996 to 1998.

He actually remained with them until they folded and wrestled for TNA for quite a while before being plagued with kidney problems.
