Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "The Golden Age of Ballooning" was one of two episodes never to have a title sequence. What was the other one?

Answer: The Cycling Tour

"The Cycling Tour" was about Mr. Pither, played by Michael Palin, who was taking a European cycling tour and landed himself in many mishaps. One of which he was captured by the Soviets and escaped a firing squad because they were very poor shots.
2. Who was Queen Victoria pestering in the "rare" filming of her in her garden in the "Sex and Violence" episode?

Answer: William Gladstone

In the sketch, Queen Victoria kicked and threw water and paint on him. It's funny they made this sketch because the real Queen Victoria didn't like William Gladstone, who was one of the Prime Ministers during her reign.
3. What type of pet did Eric Idle adopt in the episode, "Michael Ellis"?

Answer: An ant

In this episode, Eric Idle is often mistaken for Michael Ellis and can never figure out why the whole time he's in the shopping mall where most of the episode takes place.
4. Which one of these actor/comedians never worked with the Pythons as a group? Not post-Python works.

Answer: John Sessions

Rowan Atkinson and Adrian Edmunston both appeared in live sketches with the troupe and Neil Innes wrote songs for "The Holy Grail" and toured with them.
5. Which was the first episode John Cleese did NOT appear in?

Answer: The Golden Age of Ballooning

John Cleese felt the show was no longer working after the third season. He did remain friendly with the troupe and appeared in all the "Monty Python" movies and live shows.
6. What type of bird kept pestering Beethoven when he was trying to compose a song in the "Archeology Today" episode?

Answer: Minah bird

Beethoven, played by John Cleese, got so fed up with the bird he shot it.
7. Graham Chapman appeared in a music video for what band?

Answer: Iron Maiden

The video was for the song, "Can I Play with Madness", where he played a bossy school teacher.
8. Which of these episodes was edited to about half an episode and had to be replaced with a compilation of previously filmed sketches?

Answer: Grandstand

There were three sketches scheduled to be in that episode, that were cut at the last minute because the BBC and John Cleese felt they were offensive and tasteless. The sketches have not been seen by many people and are considered 'The Holy Grail' to "Monty Python" fans. No pun intended.
9. In the "Woody and Tinny Sounding Words" sketch, what was Graham Chapman's character's name?

Answer: Mansfield

This episode was from the "Light Entertainment War" episode where Graham Chapman played a crazy, rich Englishman who decided what words sounded 'woody' and which ones sounded 'tinny'.
10. Which of these was NOT a character in the television series?

Answer: The Man with Five Feet

Those of you wondering about "Heinz the Rapist", he was a character played by Terry Jones in the first German episode who was nearly blind and went around assaulting trees.
