Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On February 20, 1994, at "Superbrawl IV", WCW Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair successfully defended his title in a "Thunderdome Cage" match. Who was his opponent?

Answer: Big Van Vader

In the fall of 1993 WCW Heavyweight Champion Big Van Vader was to start an angle with Sid Vicious. In October 1993 Sid was terminated when he stabbed Arn Anderson with a pair of scissors multiple times. The old reliable Ric Flair, now aged 44, was thrust into the angle and defeated Vader for The WCW Heavyweight Title at 'Starrcade'93".

The late Ray Traylor aka The Boss served as the special referee for the "Superbrawl IV" match which Flair again won.
2. In the spring of 1994, "The Legend" Larry Zbyszko was serving as a color commentator on WCW programming when a brash and cocky young star began to provoke him week after week. Who was the wrestler that got Larry to put on the tights and boots again?

Answer: Lord Steven Regal

"Lord" Steven Regal, then The WCW Television Champion, began to badger Larry Zbyszko week after week on WCW telecasts. Eventually Larry had enough and faced Regal in match where he scored an upset and defeated him for The WCW Television Title on May 2, 1994. Larry's reign was brief as Regal regained the title the following month, however Zbyszko proved he could still get it done when he had to.
3. On May 22, 1994, at "Slamboree '94", the ageless Terry Funk faced another legend in one of the under card matches. This wrestler was once a member of "The Four Horsemen". Who was it?

Answer: Tully Blanchard

Founding member of the original "Four Horsemen" Tully Blanchard fought the cagey veteran Terry Funk to a double disqualification at "Slamboree '94". This would be Tully's last high profile match as he became a minister and began preaching to inmates in jails round the country. Funk, however, still had plenty of gas left in the tank.
4. In June 1994, Hulk Hogan signed with WCW in what was a monumental event and would have definite impact on the future. One of Hulk's first feuds was against a stable called "The Three Faces of Fear". Which was not a member of that faction?

Answer: The Warlord

The feud between Hogan and Sullivan developed when Sullivan's storyline brother Dave became a huge Hulk Hogan supporter. "The Three Faces of Fear" was soon formed to rid the world of "Hulkamania" and it included Kevin Sullivan, The Butcher aka Brutus Beefcake and Avalanche aka John Tenta.

The following year the feud continued as Sullivan expanded his stable into "The Dungeon of Doom" which was quite expansive in its roster.
5. While some of the characters in Kevin Sullivan's "Dungeon of Doom" were very forgettable like "The Yeti" or "Loch Ness" it did launch the career of one future star. Who is this star?

Answer: The Big Show

Paul Wight aka "The Big Show" made his WCW debut in the fall of 1995 where he was known simply as "The Giant". The storyline was that the immense Wight was the son the late Andre the Giant and wanted to avenge his father's honor against Hulk Hogan. Wight competed in WCW until 1999 when he left for the rival WWF, he won The WCW Heavyweight Title twice before his departure.

The defection of Wight would become the first of many young talents who would leave WCW over the next few years because they felt overlooked.
6. The event "Bash at the Beach '96" will forever be remembered as the night Hulk Hogan turned heel and formed "The NWO" with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. That night Hulk was their mystery partner, who were the opponents in that Six Man Tag Team Match?

Answer: Sting, Lex Luger and Randy Savage

The entire wrestling world was in a state of shock when Hulk Hogan did the impossible and turned his back on his fans after over a dozen years of support. That night at "Bash at the Beach" Hall, Nash and Hulk battled the trio of Lex Luger, Sting and Randy Savage to a no contest.
7. Once "The NWO" really got going in WCW they began to sign more and more members so naturally certain cliques developed within the group. Two wrestlers formed a tag team from 1996 thru 1998 known as "Vicious and Delicious". Who were they?

Answer: Buff Bagwell and Scott Norton

Marcus Alexander Bagwell, a longtime favorite of the fans in WCW, turned heel by joining the rogue "NWO" and adopting the over the top persona of "Buff Bagwell". Handsome, muscular and cocky Bagwell was frequently partnered with Scott "Flash" Norton who was 360 pounds, compact and powerful.

The duo dubbed themselves "Vicious and Delicious" and had some success together although they never won a title as a team.
8. In the summer of 1997, ECW star Raven came to WCW where he soon began to assemble a following of wrestlers he referred to as "The Flock". Which of the following stars was not a member of "The Flock"?

Answer: Lenny Lane

"The Flock" was quite expansive once it got going including a bizarre, motley crew of characters. Young WCW jobber Lenny Lane was never a member of that group but his tag team partner from 1999 thru 2000 Lodi was.
9. On April 20, 1998, Bill Goldberg won his first title in WCW as he defeated Raven on "Nitro" for The United States Title. What was so significant about Raven's title reign?

Answer: It lasted just one day

On April 19, 1998, Raven defeated Diamond Dallas Page at "Spring Stampede '98" to win The WCW U.S. Title. The following night on "Nitro" Goldberg ended that run as champion which lasted just one day. The character of Raven never held the same appeal for fans of WCW and later the WWF that it did during the heyday of ECW.
10. In the summer of 1998 tension and cliques caused "The NWO" to splinter into two rival groups. "Hollywood" Hogan still ran the original "Black and White" and Kevin Nash headed up the rival "Wolfpac". Which of the following was never a member of "The Wolfpac"?

Answer: Brian Adams

Ever since the inception of "The NWO" Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and Syxx referred to themselves as "The Wolfpac" to distinguish their clique. In the spring of 1998 Nash, Randy Savage and Konnan officially broke off from Hogan's "NWO" and started "The Wolfpac". During the summer Sting and Lex Luger were added to fold as their popularity increased. Also the late Curt Hennig and the late Rick Rude were briefly members of the group before betraying them for Hogan.

The late Brian Adams aka Crush was never a "Wolfpac" member during his WCW stint of 1997 thru 2001.
11. On December 27, 1998, at "Starrcade '98" the undefeated steak of Bill Goldberg came to an end as he lost The WCW Heavyweight Title to Kevin Nash. Nash's longtime friend and cohort Scott Hall interfered in the bout, what did he do to Goldberg?

Answer: Shocked him with a taser gun

The impressive winning streak of Bill Goldberg came to a halt at 173 wins when Scott Hall shocked him with a taser gun which allowed Kevin Nash to pin him and win The WCW Heavyweight Title. Interesting note the date that the match was held, December 27, is also Goldberg's birthday. Not a good one that year, huh, Bill.
12. The WCW Heavyweight Title reign of Kevin Nash did not last long as he dropped the belt to "Hollywood" Hogan on "Nitro" on January 4, 1999. Hogan did something to Nash in that match that has become infamous, in fact many say this angle was the beginning of the end for WCW. What was that angle?

Answer: The Fingerpoke of Doom

On January 4, 1999, "Hollywood" Hogan returned from a brief exile and battled Kevin Nash for The WCW Heavyweight Title. The bell ran and each wrestler walked up to the other, then Hogan poked Nash in his chest with his finger. Nash immediately fell to the canvas and Hogan pinned him to regain The WCW Heavyweight Title. "The NWO" had been reunited and Hogan and Nash revealed this was all an elaborate ruse on their part.

This single act was not received well by the fans who were getting bored not only with Hogan but "The NWO" in general.

The WWF who had been winning the ratings since the spring of 1998 now really surged ahead.
13. One of the more colorful and talented characters during the decline of WCW was without a doubt this former karate competitor. A cool dude, he could wrestle, he could talk and he could even dance. Who was he?

Answer: Ernest "The Cat" Miller

Ernest "The Cat" Miller arrived in WCW in the spring of 1997 as a face helping Glacier in his feud with Mortis and Wrath. He then turned heel and took on Sonny Onoo as a manager but still remained very popular with the fans due to his dancing and slick talking.

In the summer of 2000 he became WCW Comissoner, a post he held until the company folded in March 2001. Miller had a stint in The WWF from 2002 to 2004 where he served as both a color commentator and a wrestler, however he never really got over.
14. The very last segment of "Nitro" aired in March 2001 and on the telecast The WCW Heavyweight Title changed hands one last time on that program. Who defeated who to win the title?

Answer: Booker T defeated Scott Stiener

The final broadcast of "Nitro" on March 26, 2001 saw the reigning WCW United States Champion Booker T defeat Scott Stiener for The WCW Heavyweight Title. Booker T in many ways had been the last breakout star of WCW and it was a fitting tribute to see him win the gold on that night.
15. On March 26, 2001, the very last segment of "Monday Nitro" was aired as Vince McMahon Jr. purchased the company. What was the final match on the show that night?

Answer: Sting vs. Ric Flair

It was only fitting that on the last segment of "Nitro" Sting should face his longtime rival "Nature Boy" Ric Flair. The two fought on the very first broadcast of "Nitro" in September 1995 and they would be the curtain call for the company under Ted Turner. For almost thirteen years the rivalry between Flair and Sting was arguably the best that was ever created by WCW as the two gave the fans some thrilling matches. That feud made Sting into a bonafide superstar and his loyalty remained with WCW until the very end.
