Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At night you might spot me hunting for small animals. I'm a bird of prey and I can turn my head almost all the way around! I stay up at night, but I ain't misbehavin'! Do you know who-who I am?

Answer: Owl

Owls can be found on every continent in the world except Antarctica. They have large eyes on the front of their heads so they can see their prey even in the dark. They can't move their eyes, however, but they can turn their necks almost all the way around! They also have very good hearing and they fly silently so their prey can't hear them.

The other animals in the answer options are also birds.
2. I'm a big black and white animal who walks along the ground eating insects, grubs and some small animals at night when no-one is around, but I ain't misbehavin'! What animal am I?

Answer: Badger

Badgers are large creatures that can be found in North America, Europe and some places in Asia and Africa. They are omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and other animals, and they scurry along the ground digging for insects and grubs, small animals and some plants. They are nocturnal and sleep in burrows which they dig themselves.

The other animals are also black and white in colour.
3. I'm a cuddly Australian marsupial who sits in trees eating leaves all day- or should I say, all night! But, I ain't misbehavin' when I'm awake at night! What animal am I?

Answer: Koala

Koalas are marsupials which sit in trees eating only a special type of leaf from the eucalyptus tree. They don't need to drink as these leaves provide all the water they need. They are mostly only awake at night and rarely make a sound.

The other animals are also Australian marsupials.
4. I'm a small insect with a flat body which you might hear at night making chirping sounds. I ain't misbehavin' at night! What animal am I?

Answer: Cricket

Crickets are insects with a flat body and very long antennae. You can sometimes hear the males making chirping sounds, which they make by rubbing their wings together. They do this to attract females and keep other males away. They are mostly nocturnal and they are eaten by some birds and spiders.

The other animals are also insects which you might find in your garden.
5. I'm a crustacean with big claws who lives in the shell I carry on my back. Some people keep me as a pet. I live in the water and am awake at night, but I ain't misbehavin'! What animal am I?

Answer: Hermit crab

Hermit crabs belong to the crustacean family, which also includes other crabs, lobsters, shrimps, barnacles, crayfish and krill. Most types of hermit crabs are nocturnal and they live in a shell which they carry on their back. Some people keep hermit crabs as pets, which they keep in tanks.

The other animals can also be found in the water or on beaches.
6. I'm a small rodent who can be kept as a pet and I share my name with a part of a computer. I prefer the night, but I ain't misbehavin'! What animal am I?

Answer: Mouse

Mice come in all sorts of types and all sorts of different shapes and sizes. They are quite smart and they prefer the night time, where they are often eaten by animals such as cats, birds of prey like hawks or owls and snakes. They make fun and loving pets and are kept by lots of people as companions.

The other animals are also rodents who you might keep as a pet.
7. I am a winged insect famous for my glow, which is produced by an organ under my abdomen. You can often see my glow during hot summer nights, but I ain't misbehavin'! What insect am I?

Answer: Firefly

The firefly (or lightning bug) is a type of winged beetle which lives in hot climates all over the world. They are nocturnal, so the dark night really helps their glow stand out! The famous glow which gives them their name is produced by an organ under their abdomen which mixes oxygen and a substance called luciferin.

The other animals are also flying insects.
8. I'm a very busy rodent who gnaws wood and builds dams in streams, lakes and rivers. Even though I mostly prefer the night, I ain't misbehavin'! What do you think I am?

Answer: Beaver

Beavers have very powerful jaws and teeth which can even make a tree fall down! They gnaw and chew at wood and build dams in lakes, streams and rivers to make the place they're at better to live in. They mostly prefer the night time and live in small lodges made out of wood and mud. Beavers can be found on both land and in water and they eat plants, bark and roots.

The other animals can also be found in or around water.
9. I'm a popular pet who has still kept my hunting instincts. I like to stalk about at night, but I ain't misbehavin'! What animal am I?

Answer: Cat

Egyptians are believed to be the first to have kept cats as pets, almost 4000 years ago. Cats, like their wild relatives, enjoy hunting during the night for birds, mice and other small animals. They have sharp claws, good eyesight and can move around quickly and quietly. A good owner would keep their cat inside during the night!

The other animals are also kept by humans.
10. I'm the only mammal on Earth with the ability to fly and I hang upside-down when I sleep. I have very poor eyesight and I eat a range of food including fruit and insects. I live at night, I ain't misbehavin'! What animal am I?

Answer: Bat

While there are some animals that can glide, like the sugar-glider, the bat is the only mammal that can actually fly. They can be found all over the world except Antarctica and the Arctic. Most bats eat insects, but some feed on fruit, plants and one species even drinks blood!
