Jesus had originally picked twelve disciples. However one of them betrayed Jesus and died the night Jesus was crucified. The disciples got together and decided that they would replace him. They knew God had more work to be done because Jesus had told them to go and teach all nations. So they drew lots (a little bit like a lottery) and I, Matthias, was chosen. (Acts 1:12-23, NIV)

My name was first Simon, but Jesus changed it to Peter, which means "Rock". After Jesus told all of his disciples to go and wait for a promise in Jerusalem, we were praying many days and nights. No one knew exactly what the promise was but we kept believing.

Then one day there was the sound of a mighty wind (maybe like the sound of a tornado). We were all speaking in different languages we had never spoken before and there were flames of fire upon our heads. People heard the noise and were looking in the windows to see! I stood outside and told them that these men are not crazy as they thought. I told them this was the promise of God! People started praying and received what we had as well. My name is Philip, and I was known as the evangelist because I went from one place to the next telling people the good news about Jesus. One day God took me from a large crowd and placed me in the middle of a desert. I saw a man in a chariot reading a scroll but he looked like he was having some trouble. How excited I was when I found out he was reading from the scriptures of prophets telling about the Messiah! I told him the good news about Jesus, His love and his sacrifice.

The servant changed his life right then and there. I baptized him and he returned to his home telling many more about the good news of Christ. (Acts 8, NIV)

I am Stephen. Because the church got so big, the apostles chose some of us to be helpers. I was doing many great works for people and it made some of the Jewish leaders who were not Christians angry. They took me to court and lied, saying I had done many terrible things. I made them even angrier when I tried to speak for myself and reminded them of how they killed the prophets and rejected Jesus.

However when they were throwing stones at me, I looked up to heaven and saw Jesus. I cried out for him to forgive these wicked people because they did not understand.

The church was very sad when I died, but some of the people in the crowd that day became believers because of my faith. (Acts 7, NIV)

My name was first Saul, but God later changed it. When I was Saul I took many of the Christians to jail and had them put to death. I was on my way to do just that in a city when a bright light and voice knocked me off my donkey. He said, "Saul, why are you hurting me? I am Jesus." After that moment I was blind and men had to help me into the city.

A man came and prayed for me. God healed my eyesight and I became a Christian because I knew Christ was real! My name was changed to Paul. I later became an apostle and wrote over two thirds of the New Testament. (Acts 9:1-19, NIV)

Young people can do many things for God and an apostle wisely told me, "Don't despise your youth." I followed that apostle many places and even became a minister myself. I helped many people with guidance and helped take care of churches when the apostles were put into prison. Two books of the Bible were made from letters written to me by Paul, so I could help other people with their faith. (Books of 1 and 2 Timothy, NIV)

I was a seamstress who helped many of the poor people. I did so many good deeds, when I died everyone was terribly sad. They called for the apostles and when one of them saw me, he sent everyone away. He prayed and then said, "Daughter, get up!". I was alive and well. Many people were happy again and even more people became Christians because of my miracle. (Acts 9:36-42,NIV)

I believed in God and did everything I could to be good to His people. I prayed and gave money to the temple. God decided to tell me about the plan of salvation. Because I was praying, God sent an angel to my house and told me a man was coming that would share some good news. I gathered as many people as I could find.

By the time the apostle arrived at my house, I had a house full waiting to hear what God had to say. God sent His Spirit to my house just like He did for those on the day of Pentecost. We all believed and became Christians that day. (Acts 10, NIV)

My name is John and I was a beloved disciple of Jesus. I had stood by Jesus and even saw Him crucified. It was so exciting when Jesus sent His Spirit back. However many of my friends and I were treated badly for sharing the stories of Jesus with others. I was banished to a small island where thieves and robbers lived. I could have been easily discouraged.

However one day I saw Jesus again! He took me up to heaven and showed me all the things He had prepared for those who were faithful. He showed me a place where there were no tears and there was never a dark moment because Jesus was the light. Someday, He will make those promises come to pass.

He wanted me to write it down so others could have hope. (Book of Revelation, NIV)
