Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Begin with your BODY and change one letter to describe a skeleton.

Answer: BONY

Your skeleton is, of course, made of a collection of 206 different bones, which makes a person very bony, indeed. Do you know how many bones you have just in your hand (that you probably used to answer this question on your computer or device)? If you don't count the bones of the upper arm (radius and ulna), and only consider from the wrist to your fingertips, there are 27 bones! That's 54 between just your two hands!
2. Now change the first letter to come up with an animal that you can ride.

Answer: PONY

Have you ever wondered what the actual difference is between a horse and a pony? There are a few things, but the main difference is in their height. MOST ponies are under 14.2 hands in height (about 4 ft 10 in, or 145 cm) measured to the base of their necks, while most adult horses are over that height.

Ponies are not baby horses.
3. Change the vowel for another and come up with a word that means very small.

Answer: PUNY

The word 'puny' not only means small, but usually also implies weakness, as well. It is a word that is often used insultingly by bullies, so it is probably not a word you want to use when talking about other people.
4. Switch out the last letter to come up with a word that is a style of rock music.

Answer: PUNK

Punk music is a fast and aggressive kind of rock and roll that was originally popular in the 1960s and 1970s and has grown to include other styles over the years.

Maybe the musical term is related to another meaning of punk, which is a word for a hoodlum or ruffian... since punk music was often about going against the popular style of pop and rock.
5. Change another letter to refer to a good-looking man.

Answer: HUNK

The term 'hunk' is often used to refer to handsome male celebrities (usually by adoring female fans), and has its origins in the other use of the word (a piece of meat or other small portion of food).
6. With another letter change, the last word turns into a big green monster.

Answer: HULK

The 'Incredible Hulk' first appeared in "Marvel Comics" in his own title in May of 1962, and made it to television screens for the first time in 1978. In recent years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has repopularized the character with a couple of his own movies (in 2003 and 2008) before joining the cast of the Avengers in other films.

Of course, the Hulk is actually the large, green and angry alter ego of the mild-mannered and intellectual Dr. Bruce Banner, who earned his powers through exposure to the explosion of a gamma bomb (in the original comic story).
7. Change the last letter to make the bottom, outer part of a ship.

Answer: HULL

A 'hull' is more broadly defined as the outer shell of an object such as a ship (the bottom sides, and deck, but not the sails and masts, etc), or other heavy vehicle (like a tank or an airship). It is even the term used to describe the outer covering of a fruit or seed.
8. Use a different letter at the beginning of the word to yank something towards yourself.

Answer: PULL

There are lots of ways that the word 'pull' can be used, but probably the most common is as a verb that is the opposite of 'push'. When pushing, you exert a force to try to make another object move away from you, while pulling is trying to get that thing to come towards you.
9. Change the vowel to come up with voting in an election (singular).

Answer: POLL

To 'poll' someone is to ask questions to learn a specific response. When it comes to an election, the populace is polled as to who they want to take a position (usually in government) of leadership.
10. You can really dive into this word after changing one letter.

Answer: POOL

Really, any small amount of standing water (or other fluid) can be called a pool. For example, "I cut my finger and made a small pool of blood on the table.' But typically, when you think of a pool, it's a deeper reservoir of water that is designed for swimming in.
11. Switch the last letter of the previous word to come up with the opposite of rich.

Answer: POOR

To be 'poor' in pretty much any sense is to be lacking in a resource of some kind. Often this refers to money or material wealth, but it could even be something like health. And it is a term often used to express pity about someone or something (look at that poor little hungry puppy.)
12. Another vowel change will let you fill a glass from a bottle.

Answer: POUR

To 'pour' something (usually a fluid) generally means to cause it to flow out from a container to the ground or to another vessel. Even rain falling from the sky is called a downpour. But it's not limited to liquids... as an example, "People poured out of the arena after the hockey game was finished."
13. Change a letter to come up with a number.

Answer: FOUR

The number four (4), in all truth, is my favourite number. If you turn it on its side, it kind of looks like a J (the initial of my first name). The number four is only preceded by one (1), two (2) and three (3) in the natural number sequence, and is the first number that can be divided evenly by a number other than one or itself.

It is a number of great significance, signifying strength and completeness (the four corners of the world, the four cardinal directions, the four elements, four seasons, and four phases of the moon).
14. Switch out the last letter to describe a really bad smell.

Answer: FOUL

Smell is not the only thing that can be described as 'foul.' When something is truly foul, it is offensive to any (and often many) of one's senses. This can include everything from filthy clothing to filthy words.

Another use of the word 'foul' that you might be familiar with is when you are playing baseball and you hit the ball out of bounds... a 'foul' ball. In this case it is more of an infringement of what is acceptable (or 'fair') in the game.
15. One final letter change brings us from BODY to... what was the quiz title again?

Answer: SOUL

What exactly is a soul? That is a question that there are many answers for. Without getting into the many different religious definitions, your soul can be described as your total inner you. That part of you that you think and feel in, that can't easily be described in flesh and bone. Your BODY and your SOUL work together to make you YOU.
