This man was very high up in the government of Calormen, but was much older than Aravis and she did not want to marry him.

Once safe in the northern lands, Bree wanted to wait in the Hermit's house a while longer - just to let his tail grow back before he went on into Narnia.

The Tombs were to the north of the city, on the edge of the desert which separated Calormen from Narnia and Archenland.

It turned out that Shasta was Prince Cor, who was the elder twin son of King Lune of Archenland, and identical to his twin brother, Corin.

They were to pretend to prepare a banquet on their ship, the 'Splendour Hyaline', and escape when it was dark.

Shasta had been brought up by a rough fisherman and had learnt to lie to protect himself, whereas Prince Corin was completely honest. The idea that he cover up the fact that he had been fighting in the streets of Tashbaan was not an option, and he was horrified that Shasta should suggest it.

He was able to leave the city before the gates were shut for the night, and spent the night at the tombs, protected by Aslan, who appeared as a big cat and also as a lion.

Lasaraleen knew Aravis quite well as they had spent a good deal of their youth together in different houses; Lasaraleen was totally different from her friend, caring only for clothes and parties and gossip.

It was Prince Rabadash's insistance on marriage which caused the Narnians to flee the country, and consequently the two hundred horse and men attack on Narnia from the south.

Aslan chased them to the Hermit's house; Bree was terrified and ran ahead while Shasta stayed back to help Hwin and Aravis. Hwin ran as fast as she could, and Aravis was scratched on her back. Later Aslan was to tell her that the wounds, scratch for scratch, throb for throb, was identical to that inflicted on the servant she drugged in order to run away.

Aslan was also the Lion who guided the boat which took Shasta to Calormen, the Lion who brought Bree and Shasta to Hwin and Aravis, the cat who comforted him at the tombs, the lion who chased away the jackels at the tombs and the lion who pushed the horses on the last mile to the Hermit's house.

He tells Shasta this while they walk in the dark. Shasta later discovers just how dangerous the pathway was.
