Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these fruits is shown in bushels?

Answer: Apple

Found almost everywhere in the world where fruits can be grown, apples come in many flavours and colours. There are thousands of different types of apples and some are used for juices while some are better used for pies and others are great just for eating on their own. The center of the apple, called the core, contains the seeds that allow apple trees to grow.
2. What popular citrus fruit, depicted, is known for being grown in the sun?

Answer: Orange

Oranges can be sweet or bitter depending on how they're grown, but no matter which you get, they will have been picked from trees in sunny parts of the world. Oranges are high in Vitamin C, and eating them can be fun as well. Inside the orange peel (which most people don't eat), oranges are already split into segments for easy eating.

Although oranges aren't typically fruits you would use in baking, orange, as a flavour, is quite popular in or on foods.
3. These fruits grow on vines. What are the fruits in the picture?

Answer: Grapes

Grapes are a fun fruit to eat since all you need to do is pick them off the vine and pop them into your mouth. Besides being a fairly common fruit, grapes are also dried to make raisins, crushed down to make wine and juice, and preserved to make jelly. People have been growing grapes for thousands of years, and these days, the highest quality grapes are grown on vineyards all around the world.
4. This yellow fruit is sour! What's its name?

Answer: Lemon

Lemons are most typically grown in areas with hot temperatures like India, Mexico, and China, and the more ripe they are, the yellower they'll be. Lemon is a fruit that most people won't simply bite into because of how sour they can be. Instead, lemons are popular ingredients for baking and meals in general and they're very often used as flavour in candy. Lemons, when squeezed to get at the juice, are mixed with sugar and water to make lemonade.
5. Here, we see which fruit growing from plants in the ground?

Answer: Pineapple

Grown in tropical regions, pineapples are quite unlike some of the other fruits in this quiz because they grow as flowers from the ground and don't get picked from trees. Pineapple is also used for many things, however, as its juice can be drunk on its own and its fruit can be cooked into food.

Although Hawaii is known for being a famous pineapple spot, they are actually mostly grown in Costa Rica and Brazil.
6. What fuzzy fruit, similar to a nectarine, is shown here?

Answer: Peach

Peaches are similar to nectarines in that peaches have fuzzy skin while nectarines do not. These often orange fruits are known for being soft and juicy with a distinct taste often found in sweet juices and candy. Most peaches are grown in China but they were originally harvested in the Middle East and Iran.

There's also a flat peach, known as a Saturn Peach, which looks like a squashed fruit, that also grows in China.
7. It looks like a berry, but it's a stone fruit known by what name?

Answer: Cherry

Cherries grow from trees and are smaller than most fruits, appearing slightly larger than berries. Interestingly, cherries don't need high temperatures to grow; they can be grown from trees in less warm areas of the world, so it's not uncommon to find them in Russia, Canada, and other countries where it's not hot all year. While many cherries are sweet, some are also grown to be sour.
8. What 'key' ingredient is the citrus fruit seen here?

Answer: Lime

Limes, like lemons, can be very sour, so it's not normal for someone to bite into these fruits with thick rinds (not unlike an orange) and citrus insides. Instead, limes are known for their juice which are used in refreshing drinks and, interestingly, baking. Key limes in particular, grown in Florida, USA, are known for being used in key lime pies which are very tart deserts made with egg yolks and lime juice.
9. Although it's also seen as a berry, what fruit, shown, grows in bunches?

Answer: Banana

These yellow fruits tend to grow in bunches and contain no seeds (at least not in varieties you'll find in stores) and once their peels are peeled back, they contain mushy fruit inside. While these fruits aren't usually used in juices and drinks, bananas are used in all manner of cooking, notably baking. Typical bananas only turn yellow when they're ripe enough to eat; if they're green, they're normally not ripe enough. That being said, different varieties of bananas around the world can be found in other colours; these are just the most typical.
10. Grown on trees, what distinctively-shaped fruit can be seen here?

Answer: Pear

Pears are so well known for their shape that things that are pear-shaped are likely instantly recognizable. While most fruits grow to be round, pears seem to droop in a teardrop shape. Like apples, pears have thousands of different varieties around the world and because of this they can be found in multiple colours; the most typical ones will be green and yellow though. Like apples, pears can be made into juices and ciders, jams and jellies.
