Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. It seems only fitting to start off the quiz with the deaths of two people who made more of an impact on Harry's life in their deaths than in their lives. On which night was it that Voldemort traveled to Godric's Hollow and murdered Lily and James Potter?

Answer: October 31st

The seventh book goes into the memory of Voldemort himself, who tells Harry (inadvertently) exactly what happened that night. Harry finally gets some of his questions answered, and gets to see how Voldemort felt and thought before the Dark Lord killed both his parents, who died to save him.
2. Thinking back to the first book of the series, Professor Quirrell turns out to be the individual who is going after the philosopher's stone, not Professor Snape. What was the colour of his turban that he wore to hide Voldemort at the back of his head?

Answer: purple

Professor Quirrell admitting to being the bad guy at the end of the book was a great twist to the plot, after making Snape seemingly the bad guy. Professor Quirrell met Voldemort while he was out studying Defense Against the Dark Arts practically, and the death of this character shows the lack of respect Voldemort has for human life. He doesn't care who dies, as long as he stays alive.
3. In the second book of the series, Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington (or Nearly-Headless Nick) has his five-hundredth Deathday Party. Although he did not technically die in any of the books, he would have if he had seen the Basilisk and was not already dead. Who was it that saw the Basilisk through Nearly-Headless Nick, allowing them to be merely petrified, instead of killed?

Answer: Justin Finch-Fletchley

Unfortunately for Harry, he found the two bodies (in the widest sense of the word), which made people even more suspicious that he was Slytherin's Heir. It turned out to be Tom Riddle, of course, a.k.a. Lord Voldemort. Justin Finch-Fletchley is a Muggle-born Hufflepuff.
4. As we move on through the series, the death toll increases. In 'The Goblet of Fire', what is the name of the Ministry witch who went missing in Albania, and whose shadow later came out of Voldemort's wand, due to her murder at his hand?

Answer: Bertha Jorkins

Bertha's death was thanks to Wormtail, who brought her to Voldemort when she recognized him at an inn in Albania. Voldemort took what he could from her memory and, thanks to this, was able to use Harry's blood to return him to his body. Little did he know this would be what would save Harry when he chose to die to save the others from Voldemort.
5. A the end of the fourth book, one of the Triwizard Champions is also killed on Voldemort's order, simply because he was in the way. Who was it?

Answer: Cedric Diggory

Cedric was a sad loss for Hogwarts, especially Hufflepuff house. He was the first to bring glory there for a long time, and it was his death that signified, for Harry, at least, the second coming of Voldemort. The black hangings in the Great Hall at the end of term feast in the fourth year were well deserved for this fine Hogwartian, and his was simply a senseless loss.
6. The end of the fifth book had a great loss in store for Harry. Once he had finally found something close to a parent, he lost him. Who was it that killed Sirius Black?

Answer: Bellatrix Lestrange

We learn earlier in the book that Bellatrix is Sirius' cousin, but that she did not turn out as well as Sirius. She became Voldemort's right hand, searching for him after his fall thanks to Harry. In doing so she, and three others, tortured Neville's parents into insanity. She is sister to Narcissa Malfoy, Draco's mother, and aunt to Tonks.
7. In the sixth book, the loss of the greatest wizard of the age occurs, leaving Harry to pick up where he left off. Who was it that killed Professor Albus Dumbledore?

Answer: Severus Snape

At the end of the sixth book, we are left thinking that Snape is an evil supporter of Voldemort who killed Dumbledore on Voldemort's orders. We learn later, however, that Dumbledore was already dying due to his own mistake, and asked Snape to kill him. Dumbledore was a great wizard, but let memories of his early days cloud his judgment when it came to Harry.
8. There are many deaths in the seventh book, commencing with the murder of the Muggle Studies Teacher, Professor Burbage. Mad-Eye Moody was the next loss, but another character was killed that same night, one who was brave in her own way, and deserves to be remembered. Who died when a missed Avada Kedavra curse hit her?

Answer: Hedwig

Hedwig had been Harry's owl since his eleventh birthday when Hagrid bought her for him. A beautiful snowy owl, she had personality and was amazing at knowing where to carry letters. She was killed accidentally instead of Harry, and was one of many sad losses that occurred throughout the seventh book.
9. Throughout all seven books, one could never be sure where Snape's allegiance lay, was he with Dumbledore or Voldemort? The truth is finally ascertained by Harry after Snape's death, when Harry finally understands why Snape acted the way he did. Who was it that gave the order that killed Severus Snape?

Answer: Voldemort

Voldemort kills Snape thinking that it was he who won the Elder wand's allegiance. He was mistaken, however, and this mistake finally enabled Harry to disarm him. Snape left Harry his thoughts, and within them Harry learns that Snape loved his mother Lily Evans, and that was why his Patronus was a doe, just like hers was. Snape ended up being a brave man who did fight on the side of Dumbledore and the side of good, and Harry gave his second son Severus as a middle name, to remember him.
10. In the final battle for Hogwarts, Dumbledore's Army and the Order of the Phoenix faced substantial losses. Which of the following did not die the night of the Battle for Hogwarts?

Answer: Ginny Weasley

Out of these four, only Ginny survived. Fred died in front of Harry, Ron Hermione and Percy, leaving George not only without an ear, but without a twin. We do not see Tonks and Lupin dying, only their bodies lying next to Fred's. They left behind them their infant son, Teddy, who had to grow up with no parents, only a grandmother and godfather.

Other deaths that night include Colin Creevey and of course, Lord Voldemort, the starter of all this evil. I hope you enjoyed this quiz!
