Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. It is my little brother Jimmy's birthday today and he is three years younger than I am. If I am nine years old, how old is Jimmy?

Answer: 6

Jimmy is six years old. 9 - 3 = 6
2. Jimmy has three marbles and I gave him an additional four on his birthday. How many marbles does he have altogether?

Answer: 7

If Jimmy has three marbles and I give him four on his birthday, he will have seven marbles altogether. 3 + 4 = 7
3. It is 10 o'clock and mum has taken us into London for Jimmy's birthday treat. She said we have to catch the bus back home in six hours' time. What time will the bus leave?

Answer: 4 o'clock

If it is now 10 o'clock, in six hours' time it will be 4 o'clock. It is a twelve hour clock, so 10 o'clock + 6 hours = 4 o'clock.
4. As we walked through the park, we saw a mummy duck and four ducklings. How many ducks were there in total?

Answer: 5

One duck and four ducklings add up to five altogether. 1 + 4 = 5
5. While we were in the park, we jumped up to reach apples from a tree. Ten apples fell off the tree and we managed to catch seven. How many apples fell to the ground?

Answer: 3

If ten apples fell off the tree and we caught seven, that means that three landed on the ground. 10 - 7 = 3
6. We had two frisbees to play with in the park but a dog ran away with one of them. How many did that leave us with?

Answer: 1

We had two frisbees and a dog took one, leaving us with one. 2 - 1 = 1
7. My mum had six sweets which she shared evenly between Tommy, Jimmy and myself. How many sweets was I given?

Answer: 2

If there were six sweets to start with and these were shared equally between three people, each person was given two sweets. 6 ÷ 3 = 2
8. We walked towards the shops and saw ten toy trucks in a window; two blue, two yellow, two red, two pink and two green. Jimmy bought the yellow trucks with his birthday money. How many did that leave behind?

Answer: 8

Ten toy trucks minus two toy trucks left eight in the window. 10 - 2 = 8
9. The boys were hungry so mum bought 13 cupcakes and both Jimmy and Tommy ate two each. How many are left?

Answer: 9

If there were 13 cupcakes and the two boys ate two each, that would leave nine cupcakes. 13 - 2 - 2 = 9
10. We finished off the day by having a game of ten pin bowling. On my first attempt I missed the pins! How many pins were left standing if I aimed the ball off course, didn't hit any pins and scored zero?

Answer: 10

I missed the mark which means that all ten pins were still standing up. 10 - 0 = 10
