Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you walk AMONG the fruit trees in the orchard, you will find this delicious, tropical fruit.

Answer: Mango

Mangoes are a large tropical fruit, originally from India. They are usually red, orange or yellow, and are very sweet and juicy. Mangoes are grown mostly in tropical climates.
2. Is this fuzzy-skinned fruit CHEAP?

Answer: Peach

Peaches are orange in color, and have a velvety fuzz on their skin. The peach tree produces a beautiful blossom in Spring before the fruit arrives.
3. Turn the TABLES to find a cosy shelter where horses sleep.

Answer: Stable

Horses can't spend all their time in the fields! In Winter, a stable offers shelter from harsh weather. Stables are useful in Summer too, as a way of keeping them from eating too much fresh grass, which can cause colic.
4. Every year, farmers REAP their crop of this fruit, which is narrow at the stalk, and round towards the bottom.

Answer: Pear

Pears look a little like apples, but are round and plump at the bottom, narrowing towards the top. They must be allowed to ripen before you eat them, or they can be hard to bite and very bitter. Pears prefer a cool climate.
5. You can gallop at the sea SHORE on this majestic animal.

Answer: Horse

Horses played an important role in farming before tractors and machinery became popular. They were used for ploughing fields, and pulling carts and wagons. This was a very useful means of transport to get the farmer to market!
6. The BALM soothed the farmer's scraped knee after he tripped on a rock when trying to look at the baby sheep.

Answer: Lamb

A lamb is known as a baby sheep, when it is younger than 2 years old. Most lambs are born in Spring. Their beautiful woolly coats provide us with wool, which we use for soft, warm clothing.
7. The farmer sifted the excess SOIL out of the wheat, before moving it to this tall tower-like structure for storing.

Answer: Silo

Silos are tall, round buildings used to store various grains, such as wheat, barley and corn. Silage, which is fermented feed often fed to cattle and sheep during Winter, is also stored in silos.
8. You don't have to climb a MILE up this tree when picking this sour, green citrus fruit!

Answer: Lime

Limes are a citrus fruit, and like lemons, are very sour! They are full of vitamin C, are good for your skin and keep you healthy. Limes are used in all types of cooking, and make wonderful juices and desserts.
9. While eating your breakfast BRAN, you can sit in this large farm building where the hay and straw are kept.

Answer: Barn

Barns have many uses on a farm, including storage for hay or straw, farm tools and machinery, and for keeping livestock under cover.
10. There is a LUMP of this delicious dark purple fruit in my pie!

Answer: Plum

Plums come in many different colors, but the best known plums are dark reddish purple. They are lovely to eat fresh, or in a fruit salad. Plums also make delicious puddings, desserts and cakes.
