1. Where do Pearl, Jodie, Mum and Dad move to?

Answer: Melchester College

It is a huge school, where Mum and Dad now work. Pearl and Jodie were there over the summer holidays, and went to that school as well, no charge. Mum was the cook, and Dad was the caretaker.

2. What is the name of Pearl's tall friend?

Answer: Harley

Harley is very tall! He and Pearl first met when Pearl's family went to meet the headmaster and his wife. Harley was crouched down in the bushes, waiting for a group of badgers to appear.

3. What were the names of the three younger children who came to Pearl's birthday party?

Answer: Zeph, Sakura and Dan

They were all very young, but were at Melchester College over the summer holidays, like Harley, and now Pearl and Jodie. Sakura's name means "cherry blossom".

4. Which character is in a wheelchair?

Answer: Mrs Wilberforce

Mrs Wilberforce is the headmistress of Melchester College. She fell in the tower, and broke her neck, as she fell down a lot of steps.

5. Who are the cleaners in the school?

Mrs Colgate and Tiffany are very rude to Mum, though she was quite rude back. They had a bit of an argument because Pearl's mother found the kitchen "downright filthy".

Jodie had bright orange/red hair when she arrived at Melchester College, but dyed her hair purple. This was probably to impress Jed, or to infuriate her mother!

7. Who killed the badger cub?

Answer: Jed

Jed, the young gardener, was riding a tractor. He knew about the badgers, but called them vermin and wanted to get rid of them. Pearl, Jodie and Harley knew he killed the poor badger cub on purpose.

8. What did Pearl and her sister dress up as on Halloween?

Jodie persuaded her sister to wear black clothes just like her. Jodie painted her face white, put skull stickers all down her arms, chains round her neck and blackened her teeth. Pearl wrote that she looked "revolting" and would scare all the little ones to death.

Pearl found a scrap of paper with "pregnancy test" printed on it. It was part of a torn up instruction sheet. She found it near the bath. She instantly thought it could be her sister Jodie, but it wasn't!

All of these are true. Jodie has a terrible accident, so they moved away from Melchester. Pearl's Mum was pregnant, and gave her a baby sister named May. Pearl "wrote" the book for her sister so they would never forget their sister Jodie.
