Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When the Wilderness School field trip goes horribly wrong at the Grand Canyon, what type of monster(s) attack the demigods?

Answer: Anemoi thuellai(storm spirits)

Riordan uses many creatures and references to ancient myths in his works, or at least we hope they're myths. Jason refers to the storm spirits as venti in the book, which is the Latin word for them.
2. King Midas is found in Omaha, Nebraska in "The Lost Hero". What is his reason for locating his mansion in Omaha?

Answer: He had heard that there was an oracle in Omaha.

Well, he does try to raise money by selling gold in the book. He even has pamphlets. The baseball is never mentioned, but he does say that he had heard about an oracle in Omaha, probably referring to Warren Buffet, one of the richest men in The United States.
3. In what cabin is Jason at Camp Half-Blood when he remembers his last name?

Answer: Zeus's Cabin

Jason is shown to be a son of Zeus, or Apollo, at the campfire and spends that night in Zeus's cabin. In the morning he finds a photograph on the floor which has a girl in it who seems to be familiar. Annabeth visits him while he's looking at the photo and tells Jason that the girl is Thalia Grace, at which point Jason remembers that Thalia is his sister and his last name is Grace.
4. What god is behind the quest which Jason, Leo, and Piper embark on in "The Lost Hero"?

Answer: Hera(Juno)

Hera(Juno) is the first god to see that the demigods and gods must work together in the coming crisis and is behind Jason going to Camp Half-Blood. Toward the end of the story Hera reveals to Jason that Zeus sent Leo and Piper to Jason to help him in the quests coming up.
5. In what city do Jason, Piper, and Leo find Boreas, Greek God of the North Wind?

Answer: Quebec, Canada

Boreas's throne is in a huge building in Quebec which resembles a motel. Upon arriving the trio meets Boreas's children Calais, Zethes, and Khione. Boreas changes to the Roman god Aquilon when he hears their story and realizes Jason is a Roman demigod.
6. In what way are Zethes and Calais, Boreas's sons, similar to Jason?

Answer: They were demigods.

Calais and Zethes were mortal demigods who served with Jason and the Argonauts in search of the Golden Fleece. They were made immortal demigods to serve their father Boreas. Cal loves hockey and pizza while Zethes loves silk shirts and keeping his hair very well groomed.
7. What modern television programs in The United States would Leo probably be great on as a host or guest?

Answer: "Modern Marvels"

Leo is quite smart and great with mechanics and electronics, fiddling constantly at times making small machines out of parts. His inventions and tools save lives many times in the book. He has proven through his life that he is quite a survivor and supplies many of the cooked meals for the three heroes on the quest, including whipping together some rather quick meals in some interesting locations.

Other good answers would have been "Survivor" and "30 Minute Meals".
8. What movie poster is hanging in Aphrodite's cabin, but taken down, probably by Drew, when it's revealed that Piper's father is on the poster?

Answer: "King of Sparta"

Piper's dad is Tristan McLean, star of "King of Sparta", which sounds like he would have played Leonidas, the King of Sparta, in "300". But while Gerard Butler is Scottish, Tristan McLean is Cherokee.
9. Whose sword does Piper find that she likes when Annabeth takes her to the armory at Camp Half-Blood?

Answer: Helen of Troy's

Katoptris, meaning mirror, is the sword's name and it is a supposedly cursed weapon of Helen of Troy. It is believed that Helen liked to use it as a mirror and not for fighting and it caused many deaths nonetheless. Piper finds it quite useful in fighting monsters.
10. What type of weapon does Juno(Hera) give to Jason to replace his weapon which broke?

Answer: Roman Gladius

The gladius replaced the gold coin Jason had at the beginning of the story which could change into a golden sword or lance depending whether it came down heads or tails.
