Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I can be found in an African game park I have a loud roar and a big mane I am usually seen lyin' in the sun (there's a clue there!) What is my name?

Answer: Lion

You might be able to see a lion at your local zoo, or there are lion parks in Africa where you can go to see lions in the wild. Only the male lion has a big mane but the female lion is the one who catches all the food. Baby lions are called cubs.
2. I can have black or white feathers I have a red/orange beak I swim in a lake And have webbed feet.

Answer: Swan

Swans can be seen in many parks around the world but, depending on where you live, they may not be found in your local park. In the southern parts of Australia we have black swans which are not really found anywhere else in the world. Did you also know that all the unmarked mute swans on the River Thames in the United Kingdom are traditionally owned by the reigning Monarch of the UK?
3. An insect I am Small as can be When I bite you it hurts I live in a colony.

Answer: Ant

Ants live in groups called colonies, and in homes called nests. Ants eat dead insects or animals and also leaves, food scraps and other vegetation. Other animals and insects also eat ants. Some ants are even poisonous but you usually won't find them in your local park or home.
4. I live where it's cold I am a bird but cannot fly I am an awesome swimmer Do you know the name I go by?

Answer: Penguin

Most penguins live in Antarctica and the southern parts of places such as New Zealand, Australia and southern America. Their wings are too small to hold their weight for them to be able to fly so they have developed into flippers instead. The biggest variety of penguin is the Emperor Penguin. They live in Antarctica and grow to just over one metre tall.
5. I am big and grey I have big ears and a trunk You'll find me in either Asia or Africa Don't let me sleep on the top bunk!

Answer: Elephant

Most species of elephant are extinct with only the Asian elephant and two types of African elephants still alive at the end of the twentieth century. African elephants have bigger ears than Asian elephants and are usually bigger in general. Males and females have tusks whereas only male Asian elephants have tusks.
6. I swim in the ocean But I'm smaller than a whale I eat squid and fishes I'm a mammal, not a snail!

Answer: Dolphin

Dolphins are related to porpoises and whales. The biggest dolphin is an orca (or killer whale). They eat fish and squid and are very intelligent. Dolphins can be found in lots of places in the wild and, depending on where you are, you may be able to feed or 'play' with them.
7. I swing by my tail The trees, I move through I am a primate ____ see _____ do!

Answer: Monkey

Monkeys are different from apes in that they have a tail (apes don't have a tail). They use their long tails and strong arms to be able to swing through the tree-tops in the jungle where they live. Monkeys can be as small as your hand or grow to be the size of a small child.
8. I have a hard, outer shell And can live in fresh water or the sea I lay my eggs on the beach Would it be fun to be me?

Answer: Turtle

Turtles are reptiles and can be found throughout the world in the sea, in fresh waters and on land. The leatherback sea turtle is the biggest turtle and its shell can grow to over two metres in length. That's bigger than a person is tall! Turtles can pull their heads, arms, legs and tail into their shell to protect themselves when they feel threatened.
9. Jumping, bounding Hopping I do I have a long, strong tail I am a boxing _____.

Answer: Kangaroo

A kangaroo is a marsupial and is native to Australia and the surrounding islands. A joey (baby kangaroo) will stay in its mother's pouch until it is old enough to fend for itself. Kangaroos mainly eat leaves and grasses and move about by hopping on their strong back legs using their tail for balance. When they feel threatened, they can balance on their tail and kick with their back legs. Their sharp claws on their back legs can do serious damage to whatever it is they kicked!
10. Small and segmented I move underground like a snake I process plant scraps And great fertiliser I make!

Answer: Earthworm

Earthworms are amazing creatures that live in the dirt and eat plant matter. They digest the plant matter and their waste works as a fertilizer and soil conditioner. Earthworms are great for gardens. Worms don't have eyes or ears and if one loses its tail, it will grow another one.
