Answer: Judith Viorst
Judith Viorst is also the author of "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" which is probably more famous than her "Lulu" series but our family love this funny and smart book about a very spoiled girl who wants a brontosaurus for her birthday. She doesn't get what she wants so she goes looking on her own and meets up with other animals before finally meeting a brontosaurus. The encounter isn't what she bargained for at all!

Answer: Mélanie Watt
French-Canadian author Mélanie Watt has written a number of books about "Scaredy Squirrel" who is a squirrel who is scared of everything! In the first book about this guy, he doesn't want to leave the safety of his tree because he thinks he'll be attacked by a killer bee so he makes a very detailed plan of how to stay safe and a plan with lots of precautions for when he has to leave the tree. When he leaves the tree, he ultimately faces his fear and then finds out he's a flying squirrel! The thing he is afraid of isn't so bad after all and he learns something new about himself.
Watt has won numerous awards for these books that help children overcome their fears. There is also a TV series that has been shown in Canada, the US and other countries throughout the world that is loosely based on the books.
7. Chester
Answer: Mélanie Watt
We really like the author Mélanie Watt in our house but in this book about a cat named Chester with a mind of his own, it's Chester who takes over as author! This is a hilarious picture book where the authors and illustrators battle over who tells the story by crossing out each other's work and adding their own instead.
The story starts with a mouse in the house but Watt's cat Chester doesn't like that idea so he crosses that out using a red marker and starts to tell his own story. Watt and her mouse don't like that so they cross out his work and on and on the battle goes.
There are a number of books about Chester and how he takes over and tries to tell his own story; they're hilarious and easy to read.
