Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which NFL city has the smallest population?

Answer: Green Bay

Green Bay, Wisconsin has a population of 102,313. Now that's little!
2. In the movie "The Lion King", what kind of animal is Timon?

Answer: meerkat

The average meerkat is about 12 inches tall and weighs about 2 pounds. Many live in southern Africa in the Kalahari Desert.
3. What is the measure of all of the interior angles of a heptagon?

Answer: 900 degrees

There is a simple formula for finding the measure of all the interior angles of a polygon. Let 'n' be the number of sides of the polygon:
(n-2)x 180.
4. Which one of these is not an agent of erosion?

Answer: plantlife

The fourth agent is gravity. Weathering breaks down rock into sediment. Erosion moves it to a different place. Deposition is when the sediment is laid down.
5. Stars are classified by their temperature. What color are the stars with the hottest temperature?

Answer: blue-white

The stars with the lowest temperature are red.
6. Which American state is known as the "Buckeye State"?

Answer: Ohio

Ohio was given that name because there used to be a lot of buckeye trees there. The tree was named buckeye by Native Americans because the nuts of that tree look something like a buck's eye. They are dark brown with a tan spot in the middle, which is supposed to represent the pupil of the eye.
7. If a recipe calls for a dash of salt, how much salt would you need?

Answer: less than 1/8 of a teaspoon

A dash, a few grains, and a pinch are the same thing. They are measurements for dry ingredients. A dash can also be used for liquid ingredients.
8. In NCAA football, if the Texas Longhorns kick off, and an Oklahoma Sooners player catches the ball in the endzone and takes a knee, from what yard line will the Sooners start at? (prior to 2018)

Answer: 25 yard line

Every year, the Longhorns and Sooners play in Texas Stadium in Dallas (a neutral stadium), with half the fans dressed in burnt orange, and the other half in crimson and cream. I live in Oklahoma, and here it's called the Red River Shootout.
9. Which one of these is an example of alliteration?

Answer: Rumbling rocks reached a running rat

"Just act naturally" is an example of an oxymoron (act and natural are opposites).
"When I want your opinion, I'll give it to you" is an example of goldwynism. Goldwynism is an eponym from Samuel Goldwyn who used to say such contradicting things.
"Pop goes the weasel" is an example of onomatopoeia. Pop is the sound weasels make in the popular rhyme.
10. In the stories of Sherlock Holmes, what is the former occupation of Holmes's dear friend, Watson?

Answer: doctor

The stories of Sherlock Holmes were written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930). He died of heart disease.
